Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Would we take $cully back?

GWS must have royally messed up his ankle surgery for him to go at that price (either that or Hawks think his ankle is stuffed regardless and are hoping for a miracle).

Good riddance.

Geelong Advertiser wrote this morning that his ankle injury was severe and comparable to injuries sustained in motorcycle accidents. I think GWS staff will still be in the pub tonight celebrating ridding themselves of a liability.

Dodgy ankle or not .... make no mistake this is steal, it’s almost criminal that whorethorn are able to squeeze trades like this through , their supporters are now laughing and giving each other high fives, only huge upside for them

we flushed the wees and poos a month ago , and just like any bad turd they bob up again , they just won’t go away with their ability to trade in mature players

.... and meanwhile we’re likely to get bent over yet again on the hogan and may trades just because of the May compensation pick that would kick in next year (no way is he a top 10 pick) , plus GC know we are filling a need in our defence and we’re dealing with A grade [censored] at freo ,

If we get May and KK effectively in return for hogan it’s a big gamble , and the downside will be that clubs still know we’re prepared to do what ever it takes and pay up to get our target players what ever the cost , rightly or wrongly we show our hand far too easily , sometimes I wish we could play a bit more dirty at the trade table

Outcome based trades.

GWS outcome: salary cap dump.

Hawthorn outcome: ??

This seems like an enormous risk for the Hawks to take. Their salary cap must already be tight without taking on one of the biggest contracts in the AFL. The risk of Scully not being the same after this injury seems material and compounds the issue. All this for a player who is very good but not great.

This deal makes a mockery of the whole trade system. Should be worth a first rounder. Has an ankle injury but he’ll be fine in 5 months.

Why the [censored] would gws not ask for more? And don’t say salary cap as they are holding firm on Shiel.

[censored] joke

Well GWS probably got the essential salary cap relief they need with the Scully trade which does enable them to stand firm on the Shiel trade where they stand to gain a lot more.

How does the RFA work?  Couldn't Scully and GWS agree to tear up his contract so he can go as an RFA anywhere, and GWS get probably a high first round pick in the draft.  Maybe GWS wanted to do that....

Scully has a big 4 year contract that GWS have to honour or they have to trade him somewhere that will give him a suitably competitive contract.  There is no incentive for him to tear up that contract, it's his parachute.

Hawthorn have to take these kind of risks though.  They got a very good buy with Mitchell, but paid a lot for O'Meara and now probably believe they are in the zone again.  Scully on the cheap trade-wise because they are throwing all their chips and Burton at Wingard.  That one is more risky although Wingard is younger than I thought.  If it comes off with these 4 they've got a lot of years together.  The alternative was to bottom out and go to the draft but they chose a different path last year and need to follow it through - their results this year will have encouraged them.

I hope it turns to custard.

So is it true that if $cullys injury is so bad that he never plays again, his entire salary goes outside of the Hawks cap?

If so, you cant get much more of a free hit than that!

there is a formula .

When the AFL accepts that the player has a career ending injury (not just getting old) the club can pay a lump sum to settle the remaining contract obligation.

The lump sum receives favourable treatment for salary cap purposes.

(Not sure of the precise details).

So when we play hawthorn we can move on and not boo him. Let the few GWS fans boo him. Im still surprised he wanted back in the city of melbourne. As I have said before I thought he enjoyed the fishbowl life in sydney.

It was weird to see him in a hawks jumper. But we all know Clarko is a genius and somehow he will make this work.

But gee I cannot believe all hawthorn paid for him was a 4th round pick.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
