Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

O'Meara and Stratton as outs are huge, the more so given their replacements are VFL-grade players (which isn't to say we don't carry some fringe players, because we do, it's more that their outs aren't being covered by strong replacements).

Clarko will almost concede the clearances and try to set up their scoring from the back half.  The game will be played in our half.

Composure and lowering the eyes is going to be key.

This is how Geelong wanted to play us last week. In fact, I think it's how most teams will want to play us. Create scoring chains from our forward 50 turnovers and cut us up on the rebound.

It's what happened in Round 4. Inside 50s were 54-53, but we lost by 11 goals. We got enough ball inside 50 but they waltzed it back out, belted through what little "zone" we had, and found space out the back.

We're a much stronger side in all facets of the game than we were back then, of course, but if we mess up our inside 50s, miss easy shots at goal and give the ball back to them from turnovers, that's how they will work their way in front.

This is a game we should win even if O'Meara was playing.

For me it's telling that none of their 3 "ins" would get a game in our 22.

Schoenmakers might get a nod for the emergency list but the other two wouldn't.

But footy is a funny game.

GWS tried the same strategy. In the past two wins we kept Geelong and GWS to very low scores. Enormous forward pressure will counter that setup. Maybe the rope a dope strategy is now passé?

Was feeling pretty nervous since the teams came out but a caller to SEN from Thailand of all places calmed me down a tad a short time ago.

Said we were the kid that’s been bullied non-stop growing up and now we are a muscly 18 year old and it’s vengeance time. Finished off by saying Hawthorn will have their neck snapped tomorrow night. Let’s hope he’s right, although he sounded like he had guzzled several Singhas.

Need to hold on to the ball as long as possible until the right option presents itself...

Yep that's right. Before last week Lewis had 23, Jones the two from 2016, and Hibberd/Melksham one each (vs North Melbourne in 2014).

Yep.

The way we play, we have to have that pressure dialled up to stop sides using the space we deliberately leave whilst pressing forward. Round 4 (and Queen's Birthday) were good examples of what happens when that pressure just isn't there, but the past few weeks have shown what happens when it goes the other way and we're right on top with our pressure.

Jeez the notion we will just romp it in now JoM and ol mullet statton are out is just frightening

How many times have we gone into a game specifically against Hawthorn with 'they are missing such and such and so and so etc et al so we have a real chance' only to be smashed apart?

Amazingly, I now just see it as another chance to treat the old MFCSS. Which... kind of suggests that it is already in remission.

They have dropped Ceglar so I suspect they will concede some hitouts but have more run and carry. Mirra killed us at Casey a few weeks back so is on good form but I think he is still a fringe player...

Pressure is what we have to bring. Don't let them get their kicking game together.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
