Posting Unsubstantiated Rumours on this Website is Strictly Forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Anyone can come up with random percentages out of the air like that to support their own agenda, but the fact remains this is a culture you clearly don't understand and therefore debating it with you is pointless.

Never been the victim of mindless vandals destroying your property? Tagging is a blight on society perpetrated by inarticulate lowlifes that are incapable of owning or appreciating property or art. Street art has a place tagging is a disgrace.

agreed (though "culture" is not the word i would use for taggers)

Graffiti, including tagging, mostly started in the late 60's/early 70's and evolved into a collective movement against corporate America. It actually has a fascinating history if your ever bored enough to read about it. The culture I refer to encompasses graffiti, hip hop music and break dancing. Tagging with certain techniques can take incredible skill to do at the highest level.

Kid's running around with spray cans tagging everything isn't great, I agree with that. But it all has a very interesting story behind it.

Yes that is the part i dislike. I doubt many of the kids who tag anything would know the history as i am sure you do.

Great street art can be beautiful and clever

Whether you like it or not graffiti, street art, tagging are as much apart of Melbourne culture as is our love of sports, footy the MCG, culture doesn’t have to be nice much like the seedy under belly of horse racing, drinking too much and punting, lets just embrace everything that makes Melbourne Melbourne this week including the mighty Demons!!

I was at Hampton station years ago, going to footy, IIRC... when a kid had just sprayed-tagged the over railway walkover. A local collared him and wanted help to get him to the cops.  The kid was alone, scared, and in daylight...  not your typical habitual tagger.

I gave the local a piece of my mind, for wanting to hurt a kid, instead of being tolerant and trying to understand his plight?

I then told the kid what I thought, quietly to him... told him it wasn't what a strong person does, and told him to, 'get',,, quick.

I reckon he might have thought again, after that experience... & so might have the local. Who could only think of his own outrage, and not of the kid (person), at all.

I cant' see how anyone can argue that tagging over someone elses 'street art' with this rubbish is classified at okay.

Smokey I have just returned from George Town Penang and they have some magnificent street art, not a sign of tagging, so the world can enjoy the wonderful art. I would be disgusted if someone were to deface it.

I'm not sure anyone has. This looks to me like the chrome from an Ironlak reload can with a NY fat cap wielded by a 12 year old with no respect for art or any sort of ability when it comes to graffiti. It sucks big time.

There is an age old convention in graffiti that goes "Don't cap what you can't burn". Translate to don't go over a piece of work if yours isn't going to be better. Kids don't understand that concept most of the time, which is why this happens usually. Either that or whoever did this has some personal beef with the artist of the mural, but I'm not sure that's the case.

But, its a public space and thems the breaks unfortunately. There's some cracking photos of this wall getting around, thats the important thing.

Really, so does that include other crimes? Should we embrace rape and murder? Dedogtor bad things happen and I will not embrace them. Tagging is  a recent plague in western culture and it is not to be celebrated.

Wow I don’t know what to say you blokes are sour!!!  this is a thread about a  Melbourne Demons themed peace of street art, I think the club has done a fine job of linking the club to the CBD of late and this street art is a perfect way of doing so, even if it’s a little gritty, even if some old Dees from Toorak disapprove.

And when I say let’s embrace things that make Melbourne Melbourne of course I didn’t mean rape and murder what dark planet are you on!

i think your original post could have been worded better then, as it sounded like you endorsed the celebrating of the good and the bad of melbourne "culture".

no-one is criticizing street art.......just the mindless vandalism of tagging (or any unauthorised defacing of private property)

I caught a bloke a few years back in the process of "decorating " my side fence . (lived on a corner then ) Made the mistake of thinking he could outrun me.  He made the further mistake of running onto the beach.  ( Lived pretty close to it then ) .  Must have thought i was some dithering old bugger...Shame for him I was just back from trekking Nepal...fittest id been in 20 years.

He never came back...nor strangely anyone ...they must talk among selves  ;)

Hope you get yours !!!

This week Melbourne takes on Hawthorn hot on the heels of a six-day break after its encouraging response to a disappointing season opener in steamy Sydney. The Hawks were disappointingly wasteful last week, but they also failed to bring sufficient pressure into the contest and, as a consequence, the Bombers scored goals at will. Against the Demons, a repeat would be fatal. The Hawks are still in the rebuilding phase and need everything to go right against Melbourne which is gradually b
