Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Mitch isn’t even in the Casey side for this Saturday although it’s not clear as to whether or not he’s injured.

Preuss would be handy but what role would he play if Max remains injury free?

It wouldn't shock me if he was dropped,  he was completely ineffective, but it does leave Pedersen as first ruck and takes him away from a key position berth so perhaps he is injured and played injured last week, explaining his performance.

Preuss could only really be the back up ruckman.    The one thing with our list is if two of Weideman, McDonald or Hogan were unavailable you could run with Gawn and Preuss in the same side no problems.  He is not a skilled forward but he will compete.

That said, I can’t understand why he would come to us, as he must know he is coming to play for Casey unless big Max gets injured

Perhaps he has heard of the legendary egg and bacon rolls?

we need back up to max.  Can see flip and king being moved on, which leaves a gap.  I would think he will go elsewhere, and we will target a ‘nearly there’ ruckman, and develop Bradke.

i can’t see Oscar being moved on, unless there is something massive afoot.  He has developed into an outstanding defender, and unless May is on the way, it should not happen.

The only way this makes sense to me is if the plan is for Hogan to move to midfield or even the backline because Preuss can only play ruck or deep forward.

That way Gawn and Preuss could swap ruck and forward with each other, plus there is some contingency if Gawn gets injured.

I can’t understand why Preuss wouldn’t go to somewhere like the Bulldogs, St.Kilda or Adelaide where he would have a clear run at being #1 ruckman.

Maybe he wants to be a part of success, not mediocrity in the case of WB and StK, and additionally  doesn’t like camping in the latter case.

Yeah...never mind the bloke who potentially falls across his knee or ankle at any time going forward. (Touch wood).

A senior game proven backup Ruckman is a massive yes from me.

Yeah I don't disagree with the requirement, but what makes you think a bloke who could be first string at multiple clubs would want to sit around waiting for Gawn to get injured?

I think that’s the point isn’t it and it seems like it’s the reason he’s leaving the Roos. However to play devils advocate perhaps  it’s not the only reason.  Maybe given what the Roos are paying or offering Polec/ Gaff etc they just aren’t paying him well. Maybe the dees see his importance in a larger way and he gets a decent pay rise to come to us...and he might rather be second string in a successful club? I’d be wrapt if he came to us and don’t doubt he’d get his share of games either.

Preuss would be a terrific get, but would he want to play the same role he has currently at North Melbourne?  With Hogan, Tom Mac and Weideman, plus Gawn, I can't see Preuss getting a regular run in the senior side, which is what he has had to put up with this year.

Going by that, I highly doubt he would have any interest in just changing the VFL side he is playing for.  There are other clubs where he would get far more game time than with us and you would think that's where he'll go.

This.

He is leaving one team where he isnt a getting a gig to go to another.

Would absolutely take him, but in terms of opportunities he is back up and nothing more.

Why would he want to come and play second fiddle to the AA ruckman? You’d think we would be the last place a ruckman desperate to establish himself would choose.

Preuss is 23yo  206 cm and 110 kgs. Big boy that can move well and has impressive tap work.  Is from QLD and played rugby. Converted to Aussie rules at 16. Positions played Ruck and full forward  and a ready made back up for Gawny. Contracted at NM till 2020.

Why would we persue him?  Because he might be a good insurance incase Gawny goes down he can certainly take a mark.

Maybe he wants to come to us because he wants to play for a top side and learn from the best in Maxy.

Seems like he and Flip are busts.

Bring in Preuss, have Weid and T Mac as relief rucks when needed and we should be set.

Then theres Bradtke too, though he would only be a break open in case of extreme emergency and a few years off playing senior footy youd think.

A propos Bradtke and his future development - can anyone tell me how long was Mason Cox on Collingwood's list before he clicked?

he's now 27 and came across in 2014 ... played for them since 2015.

When did he click .. played 11 games in 2016 and 9 in 2017.

His career high game is .. wait for it...... against Melbourne in 2018 with 5 goals

Bradtke played junior footy, then focused on Petraccaball.  I think this is different to Cox.  More like other cat B rookies like Joel Smith perhaps?

A no from me. Don't understand why Pruess would want to be no 2 ruck when he wants to be no 1 ruck. Weed and T.Mac can do the job if Gawn goes down with King and Bradtke developing.

Can’t agree there WEERIDEE... Preuss will allow T Mac and Weed to play there main role forward. I think Hogan should go to a wing and play through the midfield.

King has done next to nothing in the VFL the past 2 years, definite delisting for mine

Agree Wise, I can't understand why anyone would not want him at the club when you look at who is behind Max. TMac, Hogan & Weed would not be able to compete with a Sandilands type ruckman. King and Filipovic are not up to it. If Max goes down we are in trouble, Preuss would be a terrific get

I'd play Preusse as a CHBack, with some ruck relieving roles across a game. Be an ideal opponent for some of the well-favoured, smart-arse, Hawkins-like forwards around the competition at present, and could be lethal when required for the Selwoods, Dangerfields, the whole Filth team, and in tempering some of the Essendrug thugs. That is just a small handful of potential roles if we wanted to get nasty with all teams ... hitman heaven!

I actually like that we're looking at Pruess! Such a big brute of a man and has that physical agro like Mumford.

My honest opinion is i think we can fit 2 ruckman in the one side. Reason with this is, I'd like to see Gawn spend more time deep forward. Bit like what collingwood does with Mason Cox and Grundy rucking most of the time.

The potential to stretch opposition backs with the likes of McDonald/Gawn deep and Hogan roaming further up the ground is quite tantalizing. The only question is where does that leave Weideman? Can we get away with 4 talls in one forwars line?

That or we have Pruess just rotating on and off the bench to give Gawn a decent chop out?

afl.com.au saying today that there is mutual interest between Preuss and the Dees

We desperately need a backup ruck, so wouldn't be against this at all

I don't think any of us would be against it - the bloke is a very handy ruckman and we've been crying out for some time for a back up to Max, not a stop gap like Pedersen or T Mac.

What I'm interested in is what we have in store for him - are we guaranteeing him game time?  He spent all year in the VFL and I can't see him slotting in to our side either, so I'm curious as to what discussions we are having with him that have him interested in playing for us next season.

Big Max has played a lot of footy this season. Its worth remembering that he's had a number of knee recos and other significant leg injuries.

King appears a bust, possibly Flipper too. Will Pedo be on our list next year?

We are one knee tweak away from being caught with our rucking pants down.

I like the idea of Preuss playing some kpf and some ruck. But as others have said, we will be too tall with 4 big men in the seniors forward line. So does Preuss play at Casey in 2019, or does Weid play there, or are there other factors at play..... ?

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
