Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

How's Tyson looking mate? i.e. what's his program looking like

Also Hannan is playing for Casey today so that would explain his absence!

At this stage Tyson was involved in some straight runs at about half to three quarter pace.

Oh, yes Hannan is at Casey. Forgot about that.

Lewis not training due to illness.

Tyson said to a couple of people as running laps that he gives himself a chance

I wonder, IF Lew is incognito, somewhere near Geelong.

Wouldn't surprise to hear they were infiltrated, a Cat'astrophe down in the hollow.

Attended training/family day this morning. I reckon about 2000 people there on a chilly morning. I have been attending training off and on now for I suppose 5 years and it is interesting to see how the club has evolved in this as it moves to elite performance.

Mostly in the past training has been pretty regimented and predictable. Today I noticed a crucial difference. It was much much more accountable. For instance, in front of us there was a match simulation amongst I suppose a dozen senior players with handballs and kicking, marking etc. For the first ten minutes or so, they continually missed their targets, which prompted the coach (l didn’t recognise him) to  yell at them very loudly, to the extent when it continued he brought them in and gave them a serious dressing down. After that it was almost flawless.

i have never seen that before at a Dees training session. I suspect it reflects the elite demands that are on this group.

About time too, but also symptomatic of the group’s expectations and how ruthless they are now to achieve them.

lt was wonderful to see.

Great turn out by the fans. Our colours are everywhere, kids calling out the names of their heroes, flags are being waved and doggy's in the red and blue. Good job by the Army and admin to create suitable finals atmosphere for the MFC players and staff.

No Mitch Hannan, Jordan Lewis, Joel Smith, Jeff Garlett, Tom Bugg or Jayden Hunt.

Rehab had Dom Tyson (some skill work, mainly laps),  Mitch King, Corey Maynard and Oskar Baker. Test group had Aaron vandenBerg and Jack Viney, both later joined the main group. Jack getting congrats from players and fans when he joined. At the end of training he continued running laps by himself.

No surprises in the forwards, backs or mids grouping.

Mids were tackling and pressuring each other reasonably hard.

Forwards goal kicking pract ice as was the whole squad at some times.

It was an extended session of simulations. They were hard at the contest. I thought we were a bit off with our skills, though a few stood out - James Harmes, Bailey Fritsch, Neville Jetta, Tom Mcdonald, Jay Kennedy-Harris, Aaron vandenBerg and it was good to see Jack Viney get his hands on it.

At one stage the playing group pulled away from the coaching staff and had a pow wow together. Looked liked it was led by Nathan Jones. Good to see them taking self responsibility for some poor play.

Plenty of running work was also done.

Michael Hibberd wearing number 38 on his back.

Hypothetical match committee: Working on ingraining habitual behaviors, such as lowering the eyes, finding the corridors, rolling off the mark, moving the ball quickly and spreading.

Reinforcing working hard and reacting quickly when it is turned over. A bit concerned about our clangers and rushing the set kicking.

Go Dees,

Dropped by Gosches this morning, the boys were doing some light training, ball movement drills, then goal kicking practice from all angles. Max is very good from the boundary lines both sides. I didn’t see Frost kick a goal from any angle, better stay down back.

Counted 19 players training, no Kent, Tyson or VDB? No Hannan, no JSmith, no Viney today, he trained yesterday.

TMac moving well, not sure why VDB was missing. Thought a couple of fully fit next in line backup players might have been training with the 19.

Melbourne Victory training next door, good to see Honda cruising around the pitch, looks very good with a ball at his feet.

Oh and Vince was running laps even though he announced his retirement?

Vandenberg spent the first part of training with Viney doing running and drills. Half way though, Viney very obviously ran across the field to join the main group which was met with very loud applause and cheers from the players. This is a seriously close group. You can see how committed they are to each other, and to their leadership.

Vanders subsequently joined the main group for the session

Down there with the son and heir. Agree about some missed targets. Trac reminds me of those super talented batsmen who can hit any shot to any ball. They sometimes get them selves out by having too many options. Trac is like that with his kicking. High, low, curving etc etc. Dead opposite of boring Tmac-run straight and kick straight. Tmac also sporting the very serious black socks/black boots combo.

we await the epicurean report please

Went along with the family and really enjoyed this first finals training session for 12 years,  my brother and I reminisced about the junction oval training sessions back in 87 and even at the start of this century.  We have come so far as a club since those days not so long past.

Spent some time looking at the rehab group where Dom was worked hard along with Oskar and Mitch.  He was the stand out of the three not surprisingly and looks to be in the van to play on Friday if required.  Oskar seemed to move freely and was very keen on the snap on goal with mixed success.  It was great to also see Lever walking laps as well as Corey Maynard jogging laps at a fair pace. Thank you to whoever informed us of Lewis' illness, hopefully not too serious.

The big take away from the session (apart from the delicious sausages and donuts (see above)) was the speed at which they work.  Sitting in the stands each week the whole game seems much slower than when seen up close.  All in all the main group looked sharper as the session progressed. We also commented on what a fantastic late season addition Vanders has been (it appears his nickname is "Checkers" - any insight on that would be appreciated), his size and strength is just what September needs!  We left with full stomachs and high hopes.  Go Dees!

Footnote (no pun intended): it was great to see the co-captain back in the main group, he looked to pick up the pace quickly and slot back in with ease.  Can only be a good addition to an already strong lineup.

From the AFL site:   Demons co-captain on track for finals return

I hope Jordie is 100% come Friday.  We will miss his leadership and finals experience if he is a forced out.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
