Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Thank god for the mighty  Casey Demons...   makes the weekend off before AFL finals a lot more bearable seeing them in finals action.....  And theyre playing Geelong too.

Thank god for Casey over the past decade or so because even while Melbourne struggled they have consistently been a very good team that have gone on to produce a number of AFL players.

If Viney's toe is good to go next week then surely he should be playing for Casey this week I would have thought.

there is a lot of old fashioned logic in that question but in these days of "loading and deloading" it seems to be no longer the preferred route. Playing him for a half would seem to be very logical but I suppose the theory goes that it adds nothing to his skills and reaction time while not playing him allows them to load him in a controlled manner.

After recent experiences I am just hesitant about Viney's toe despite what has been said publicly.

So some Geelong neanderthal can king hit him?

Happened before, didnt it?  Broken jaw??

In fact, this might be a great opportunity to hunt those on the fringes of Geelong selection.  Playing the ressies the week before the AFL final exposes these players to a bit of biffo and could impact the senior selections come Thursday.

Am I missing something here?

Nobody has mentioned the non-selection of JKH, who based on just about everybody's AFL selection comments including my own, is first in line to be omitted should we regain Viney, Hannan and Joel Smith.

Yes I know he played well last week v GWS, but to suggest he is a likely first 22 next week is baffling?

To keep him back as a hold over player is not a bad idea, but Hannan hardly needs a hitout either I would have thought.

In JKH's case, he has had a couple of breaks already this season as 23rd player, so there is absolutely no need to rest him - unless you are one of the few that think he is a gimme next week - Goody may well be one of the few, but i doubt it.

And what's worse, he is exactly the type of player the VFL side needs this week with a few of our fringe mids already out - Stretch, Baker and Kent etc.

Has JKH got an injury? Did the club ask him to take it easy because he may play? Is he so big-headed that he knocked back a chance to play because he feels he's a gimme next week? I doubt the latter.

Anyone got some inside info on why he is not playing?

Why?

I posted a few days ago, that Viney was targeting the first final and that at that stage he would be fit and ready to go. Therefore I thought they wouldn't risk him for Casey, wouldn't need to and that it was one week before he was fully ready.

I just think with such an important game I'd prefer him to go in having already played and knowing that his toe will hold up in match conditions.

It may very well hold up and he'll be fine but it's a risk.

Yes it is a risk, but apparently he is basically doing everything he will do in a match, without being risked in a VFL match, a week before he is meant to be 100%.

Knowing Viney, the risk won't be him not being able to play out the match. It will be that he'll aggrevate it further, run out the game at full capacity as though nothing is wrong, and then miss subsequent matches. I think it's a risk worth taking.

I am assuming we are hoping to go into next week with one change, Viney for Kent, hoping Tyson gets up. JKH was training on Thursday morning with the players who played against GWS. There were 19 players doing drills, missing were Kent, Tyson and VDB. Vince doing laps, Baker doing rehab. No Viney, no JSmith or Hannan. So after seeing the VFL selection I am surmising that they are going with one change

I can't believe they will play jkh ahead of Hannan in the seniors. I know Hannan is a little inconsistent but he kicks goals. Having said all that maybe Tyson won't be right.

Saw a link about the Casey game. No mention of TV, only said you can hear a broadcast on K-Rock FM 95.5 geelong radio.

If they played last week in the AFL they aren’t allowed to play this VFL game, I’m 90% on that. I heard it, haven’t checked to 100% it but would make sense

the amazing thing about the great bog was that it was  a beautiful sunny day at Coburg. Tomorrow is at Casey (named after the old Governor general.. Baron Casey....a real establishment guy ... wonder if he barracked for the Dees). Anyway I digress ... which is of course half the fun.... I suspect they know where the solid ground is located.

Speaking of solid ground I was very surprised by the softness of the Casey surface when I walked on it last week. Would love to hear Drunkn's views on the surface.

I wonder how many stress fractures have the Casey boys suffered, this past 12 months?

Have you noticed the lake beside the ground, outer wing. Catches all runoff water, and is used for watering the ovals.

Plenty of green grass around Casey Fields ovals.

Not as lush around Gosch's...

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
