Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Hang on a minute, questioning the coach is jumping off?

You can raise legitimate concerns and you can crack it when our team does stupid [censored] like lose to St Kilda or lose to Geelong twice by under a goal. That does not mean you are not invested or have jumped off.

I get upset and annoyed and emotional, but I am as invested as ever. Nobody here has said they are off to support another team, and everyone deserves to enjoy our first finals campaign in 12 years, no matter how many times they've sworn at the club in that time.

Yep 100%.

I've questioned Goodwin at times this year and am still not totally sold on his matchday coaching but still fully behind him and have a lot of respect for the guy.

Harping on ancient history is not fully supporting them. It's placing a load on their shoulders that is not of their making, nor their responsibility.

I don't care how much you sent Melbourne and I'm not lecturing you. I'm just sick of the continual negativity and backward outlook here, even when we win.

(Supporting Melbourne since the 1950s.)

Yep, time to look forward not backwards.

The past negativity. As a supporter I am approaching the finals series with a hugely positive outlook. Even if we don't get past the first week. Then I'll be positive for 2019.

I'm not interested in what happened in 1965, 1975 or 1985, to Norm Smith, or Neeld, or Watts. I don't need to be reminded of our past every minute of the day, every day of the week. I know it and I choose now to ignore it.

Ok. You support the highlights package, that’s your choice

i support 160 years worth. If this crop of players goes all the way and brings home the Cup i am sure it will be proudly shown alongside our other 12, and not in isolation.

The players don't care about that. They'll say that they do, but they play for each other. They share the experience with each other and they'll share the results with each other.

Think Clayton Oliver cares about the 1964 flag? It's not his and he had no experience of it. He might hear some old codger day that he reminds him of some player from back then and he'll humour them .... but he couldn't care less.

Nathan Jones sees the last 13 years. Clarry see the last 3. Spargo only sees 2018.

With your positivity fifty 5. There seems to be a lot of sulky people on this website who need to express their emotions. I've met Melbourne supporters (so called) at matches as well who complain about certain players rather than barrack. Minority thankfully.

Try not to let it get you down, most support the team.

Go the Dees!!!

How do you know that?

Each Player who puts on the Jumper and runs over the white line should feel proud to be part of 160 years of evolving history.

I know that’s how i felt when i walked into GTV 9 in 1986 on my first day, there was instantly History on every wall i passed. The same happened a year later when i jjoined ABC Melbourne in Ripponlea. History was proudly shown and i was now a part of it

Put it this way, if Whorethorn win another flag this year (God help us) nobody will give a dam, infact many TV’s will be switched off before the end.

If the MFC pull it off it will be F$&@ing huge, because of our last 54 years of heartbreak and at times desolation.

I think the players are a tight unit, yes but i think they also know the history and how much it would mean to smash the chains that have held us back

Yes, I believe putting heat on the coach (let’s not use the term “questioning” - that’s not what most do) at this stage in the process, with our record as it stood early in the season when the thread was started, was a clear cut case of supporter not supporting.

For what it’s worth I couldn’t care less about the 1964 premiership either. I also couldn’t care less about the 2008 and 2009 wooden spoons either, and I was around for those (and in the case of 2008, worked for the club in a volunteer capacity). They’re so long ago now that they bear no relevance at all to the present.

Because I'm still playing after nearly 20 years of senior footy and seeing a lot of new kids pass through.

People join football clubs and join a family of sorts. Sure, there are pictures on the wall, but you know that deep down you don't really care about the achievements of your great-great-uncle. But you do care about your brother, sister, father, mother etc. because you share so many experiences together.

I'd played for 13 seasons before I won a flag. That flag meant so much to me because of the long series of failures that led me there and I could see how much it meant to the supporters that followed us and ex-team mates that I shared the failures with. But I didn't care about what happened before I started, despite the photos on the wall and the old club legends around the place.

The players that joined just before the flag didn't care about the previous 13 seasons, but they cared about winning it together as a team. The previous years only meant something to them because they knew that they meant something to me, and they cared about me because I was one of their team mates.

And the kids that joined this year think that the 5 year premiership reunion sounded like a fun excuse for a p!ss up!

55 - Get on board everyone. Time to fly the flag, get excited! We're playing finals!

Response - No

55 and others - It's been 12 years. We're on the cusp of something great. Time to support the club and the boys. They're giving their all.

Response - No! I have every right to wallow in my negativity after all this club has put me through. Leave me and my veil alone!

Great post (the first one). I hope everyone can get excited about this group and where we're heading. Go Dees!

What about those posters that just put their thoughts into that thread? Was I contributing not supporting the club. Obviously that is rhetorical.

Roos spoke about the veil of negativity and we have our little MFCSS references but they have so much truth to it. You are raised by your environment and there are some more affected than others, some have enough self-reflection to know when they are being ridiculous and temper their thoughts, and then there are those that want to disengage with the neuroses of the supporter base altogether.

We see reality through a lens of impending and inevitable doom and watch as a lot of us slip back into that over the next weeks and years of pending and sustained success.

We are going to get a bunch of bandwagoners and let's try and keep them around. They will come for success, for Gawn, for Oliver, Hogan and Brayshaw, and let's try to build an atmosphere and an ethos beyond the proclivities of the rusted on inmates that we all are.

So what’s the deal with saying player X needs to be dropped or player Z had a poor game? I mean I want to know what can and can’t be said by supporters before they are deemed to be “not supporting”.

It is absolute rubbish. Supporting to me is turning up each week even when we are getting smashed, it’s buying a membership no matter how badly we played the previous season, it’s criticizing without insulting, and it’s being negative if that’s how you feel in the moment because you really do feel the emotions. That’s being a supporter.

We can go one further this year, we have given ourselves that chance.

The real work starts this week, Finals pressure goes up at least 10%

i am a very passionate supporter and Member, but i do not deny what has gone down before

Mate no-one denies it but we also don't need to be reminded of it every 5 seconds

There's a difference between criticism/discussion around selection or performance and the Henny Penny sky is falling wallowing in misery that goes on. I think you're smart enough to figure out the difference between the two Jaded.

I also give people some leeway after a gut wrenching loss (for example), people get emotional and this is a good place for venting - but when people are still going on and on about how the club has wronged them etc the Thursday after a game it's just sad.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
