Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Great table as it also should silence those who continually harp on about the AFL (via the umpires) having it in for us. Sydney on the other hand...

I’m not sure what you’re saying here. Are you saying I’m wrong about the final free kick count? Both the AFL app and footywire says 18-14 to the Eagles.

Final count is correct.. I'm saying it was incredibly lopsided after 1/4 time.

Agree 'Macca'...but you're making too much sense.

I prefer the narrative that Nichols has it in for us, it's much easier to yell at the tele.

Ha ha!

This is a risky comment but I don't even notice Nichols .either .. and I watch our games twice and sometimes 3 times.

I view the sport and our games differentl ... my main focus is and always has been the state of our list and whether we are any good or not.

Are the umpires in interstate games usually the same umpires? For example do Adelaide games usually have the same pool of umpires and Perth games have their own pool?

I heard murmurings from the dills around me on the weekend that the umpires in this particular game were shipped in and weren't the "usual" gang.

Family?

I just figured the umpires are in Finals mode where a lot of minor indiscretions are let go so the game flow is better. It was a bit surprising to find out there was 32 free kicks awarded - did not feel like that many watching it.

There are always outliers and aberrations in sport ... come to terms with it Webber otherwise you'll worry about something that probably isn't going to change for the rest of your life.

If it wasn't the West Coast it would be another team ... in fact I clearly remember when it was other teams.  Collingwood at Vic Park for instance and numerous  other teams in numerous other sports

And I formed my view oved 40 years ago.  I just watch the games and largely ignore the umpiring decisions.  You and others should try it ... have you ever tried doing that?

Great advice Macca, and thanks for it, yet you’ve completely missed my point. Like you seem to have done, accepting unfair but correctible anomalies is to allow the people’s game, our remarkably egalitarian national sport, to fail in that very ethos. Nobody should or will ever get perfection in adjudication, in fact the imperfection is part of its unique colour. But when there’s a rank outlier, it should be called out and addressed, much like salary cap rorts. Obviously The WC free kick bias is not their fault, it is the AFL’s problem, but as an objective outlier, it diminishes the game unnecessarily. Sunday was promising.

A bit like your outlier that the team has a chronically mentally fragile attitude when it comes to kicking for goal.

Great table. An absolute statistical outlier and a disgrace that needs to be looked at.

In the last 11 years only 12 times has a team had a +/- differential greater than 75.

West Coast have had 5 and all plus. They have never had a negative free kick year in the last 16 years.

Hawthorn had one.  -99 in the year they played 'unsociable fotball'

Bulldogs had one +112 in their permiership year when they got away with throwing everything as well.

Geelong had have two (one a GF year)

Port, Brisbane, Carlton have had one.

Pull your finger out AFL and do something about this.

They do under certain conditions, as do other teams. Not an outlier, never suggested it was, just part of the variability for a team finding their confidence. Nice try though. ??

The guy I sat next to at the footy was flabbergasted when I mentioned this table and the results to him as he was adamant that the Eagles always get the raw end of the stick from the umpires. It's often hard to see through only one eye.

You just don't like or agree with my view on impiring and I understand that ... you don't think I already know that in advance?

My comments are not really aimed at you ... they are aimed at the 10% - 15% that might be able to change their minds on umpiring in footy. Too many are happy to fall-in and play victim ... at every club.

My views worked with regards to drafting and the wbole drafting process and to a lesser extent the over-evaluation of our playing stocks (not so much now but previously)

I haven't watched the replay but I remember an instance in the first quarter 15 meters out from our goal at a boundary throw in and it appeared Tom McDonald was blocked by a 3rd man, but no call from the umpire. No replay from the broadcasters so unsure if there was anything in it. Anyone who has watched the replay that can comment or let me know at what time it occurred?

I'm not adverse to booing bad umpiring decisions usually for stuff that isn't paid but the Eagles fans take booing to a whole new level. Being a booer myself I can recognise when an opposition has his head taken off or is clearly pushed in the back. Eagles fans apparently don't have the same idea of fairness. If they aren't awarded a free or an opposition gets a free no matter the correctness of the decision that is a cause for booing.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
