Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

To be followed by the Sunday post game.....the selection cost us again

On this board in the last few weeks

Kent was supposedly just trade bait for Gaff

The dropping of Hannan last time was roundly applauded

Weidemann wiil never make it

Spargo can't kick goals, well at least Brian Taylor thinks so

The hypocrisy amuses me

You are such a boring contributor to this site.

And you wonder why others have a go at you.

Just talk footy for a change rather than baiting people like me.

Spargo can't kick goals,

Let me go with this on Friday rather than Sunday night.

Spargo can't stick a tackle and that concerns me with the size of some of the Eagles defenders...their skipper in particular.

But I think Melk will probably take him in a defensive forward role similar to what he did with Rance...

5 changes...signs of almost desperation ...two for improvement and one forced but it does not augur well.

What a disappointment this season has been

Maybe wait until the game is done DJ before the lustre wears off.

Some good ins, Hogs is a loss, the others are meh players (Garls as much as we all love him has become a meh player).

Do you read all other posts other than your own as one big, single post? Saty against the world.

Anyway i'm happy wit selections, save JKH being dropped. He is one of the few reliable kicks in the side and i think he played ok.

I like Hunt and Hannan as two physically strong forwards. Jeffy deserved to be dropped.

From what I saw against Sydney (TV only), Spargo seemed to try hard but had minimal impact.  Garlett failed to work hard and also had minimal impact.  On reflection, while they both had very disappointing games, I guess you must always give the nod to Spargo in those circumstances.

you may be right. It's just that after the disappointments of 2016 and 2017 so much more was expected of this season. To not beat a side etc etc...you know what I mean

Fritsch is our most accurate set shot goal scorer for the year.  With Hibberd's return I would like to see Fritsch back in the forward line where he and Melksham should really improve our goal kicking conversion.

And, I hope Kent has learnt the meaning of 'Team First' while away.  He likes to run down the wing and pot shot the goals but forgets to look for team mates in better positions.  And hope he improves his tackling rate.  Without those improvements he will add no more value than keeping JKH.

5 changes and only 2 forced due to injury. Been a while since the club made such a big statement. I hope it results in success......

5 changes seems at odds with Goody’s press conference where expressed confidence in the playing group and the process/game plan and that we had been competitive in all our matches.

Thinking JKH was showing something at last and would have given Jeffy another chance over there.

The dimensions of MCG (160 × 129 m) and the new optus stadium (165 × 130 m) are similar.
The corridors we use should be the ones less defended. Or if we are closing the game down then we kick down the line to packs. So north, south or middle is irrelevant. They are probably moving to a game plan anyway.
I see our main problem being the opposition getting a run on and kicking numerous unanswered goals. I think it is a mental problem and lack of hardness. They look like roos in the headlights, unable to get the ball as they become spectators. We really need to make a determined effort to answer every goal the opposition get and make our own run of unanswered goals.
Kicking to targets especially if the player has space is better than bombs to packs. Errors will occur but repetition at training can help as well as knowing other players limitations (I think that is one of Hogans problems, he expects the carrier to deliver to him instead working hard to make it easy for the player to feed him).
Freeing the ball movement takes creativity and lowering the eyes.

MCG playing surface is 141m wide.

https://optusstadium.com.au/factsheets/afl-fact-sheet/

Optus stadium is closer in width to Docklands.

You can't trade Watts and not trade Garlett imo. Papers stamped. I hope someone is willing to give us a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

If Fritsch is a pick 31 then we should be able to get someone better than Garlett as he is playing at present at pick 50!

I had a really nice coffee the other day and it was only $3.50, I couldn't believe it, I was expecting $3.80 or even $4, it is in Sydney after all. Does anyone know why the barista had it so low?

Coffee fanatics were plunging on Colombian Gold Velvet in huge volumes and the baristas had to wind in the price to protect themselves.

They made up for it by putting out the price on macadamia and cranberry muffins to an enticing $10.50

Would’ve preferred Garlett than Hannan. Despite having a poor game against the Swans, he was amongst our most dangerous players the week before and was IMO a key reason we beat Adelaide over there. His 2nd/3rd quarter burst set up our win.

Hannan has not had any impact on an AFL match in 12 months. Poor selection.

The Ins otherwise are all solid choices. Melksham and Hibberd will make a big difference!

Dangerous against gold coast in a 100 point win? my grandma would’ve be dangerous in that game.

Garlett laid ZERO tackles last week.. His defensive efforts were almost non existent.

IMO last week was his last game in the red & blue.

I like the selection this week. It looks as if they may have started with a blank sheet of paper and a list of available players and sorted it out from scratch. Good to see Hibberd and Melksham back I believe they will give us more drive from defence and better quality F50 entries.

Will be interested to see how Kent and Weidman go. Personally I think Weideman should have been in last week. Hannan needs to have a good one. might have been a toss up between he and Garlett.

do you disagree that changing out one quarter of the team with two games to go shows that we are not travelling well.

No it shows that we have players going out injured who we need to cover, as well as players coming back from injury who we need to find a place for.

The other 2 changes -  which constitute just under 1/10 of the team - are form/performance related, though even there, they're largely part of juggling players as a consequence of others who are out injured - JKH wouldn't have been in the team in the first place without injuries to Viney and Stretch (and perhaps Maynard).

But heh, the sky is falling.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
