Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

As some of you know, particularly Skuitt, many weeks ago I posted that the Dees had an arrangement in place that if Sydney could be satisfied with a very high Draft Pick, Hannaberry would be Demon next year on a long term contract, and as I stated, “very big coin”

Let me make it clear that my Demonland Post was the very first mention in any form of media about Hannaberry breaking a Contract with more than 2 full seasons to run.  A couple of weeks later Damian Barrett & others started to get a sniff and started running stories.

As we now all know, the Saints became aware of Dan’s availability and are in for anything with a pulse and have taken over the running.

Let me update you.  About 2 weeks ago, the Dees informed Dan’s management & the Swans that due to the necessary but unexpected increase in the contract values of some recent signings that the Melb FC would be withdrawing any interest in that Trade.  I believe that the Club also had to increase their offer for Andrew Gaff which made a 4/5 year $800k offer to Dan rather difficult.

I can also inform you all that the Swans are desperate for the Hannaberry trade to happen as they are extremely keen on Steven May and need the Pick and the salary cap relief.

I have also been told that the Tom Lynch to Richmond deal has been done.

Also, just to make yesterday’s defeat worse.  In addition to Buddy having the exact same heal injury that sidelined Mitchell Starc for so long, Josh Kennedy has a knee injury that hasn’t allowed him to train for weeks and is also being jabbed to play.

Thanks Goodwindees.

I heard on SEN a few days ago Sydney will be paying 200k a season towards Hannbery’s (or is it Hannaberry?) contract. With two years still on his contract and Sydney willing to pay 200k a year, they must be bloody keen on May.

I'd be unbelievably surprised and terribly disappointed at the same time if we had any interest in Dan Hannebery.  Not what we need at all.

Not only that, we have no high draft picks, so this seems strange to me.  In fact, I find it extremely hard to believe.

Where were we getting the high draft pick from to trade?

Surely, you’re aware as is the whole football world that we had an enormous crack at Dan when he signed his last Contract.  Mahoney has been on record earlier this year as saying that he really believed that we had the salary cap ability to bring in 2 top end talents. I suspect that Dan & Andrew Gaff were 2 that we’re in the mix.

That was always going to be an issue, particularly when a Club like the Saints who have lower picks gets involved, however, Dan H has to agree to go to a bottom Club like the Saints.  To answer your question, if we were to package Tyson & that Adelaide second round pick which is now not too bad you might squeeze something decent from a Carlton etc etc.

No way would Carlton go for that or any other similar trade. Swans need points for their Academy picks so we’d be better off trying to pick up some second round picks and on-trade them.

Anymore info re Gaff?

Yes ET, with Grundy and Reid finished for different reasons, they are desperate for May.

The feeling is that Gaff’s “brain fade” was due to the incredible stress of the upcoming decision to tell the Weagles that he would be leaving the Club to return home. He loves the Eagles but was favouring a decision to come home and the Club also thought that was the case which led to the massive McGovern offer.

Who knows how this recent event changes things.

Hannbury would be an upgrade on Jones if we could pull it off.

That seems to be a point of difference between us and a couple of other clubs.

Sydney and Hawthorn make these type of difficult calls on trades in relation to list management. Emotion is not a factor ( Don’t always get it right mind you)

Hawthorn :- Lewis, Mitchell, Hodge

Swans Mitchell

The point is they run a club and have no compunction calling the shots.

We on the other hand are going to be left with Lewis and Jones on our list next year and still squirm about James McDonald.

I realise Lewis and Bernie suited us at the time ,but they can also become a bit of a sea brake.

Personally I would think Bernie Vince now has very  little chance of survival.

If it were true that we offered a very high draft pick for Hannebery that would surely have to come from a trade of a previously highly thought of youngster who hasn’t quite met expectations. I can’t think of any other way.

You are my early prediction for MVP of the  2018 Draft and Trading board.

The other posters with inside info will need to bring their 'A' game.

Depending on injury have changed my mind - would have him and get rid of Vince and Jones (or redeploy elsewhere), and possibly Lewis.

@goodwindees Thanks for the fantastic update. If DanHan goes to SK, in your mind what are the alternatives as we're obviously keen to spend the cash....

Hi Ante_Up.  I’d only be guessing because the fact is my strong, direct connections are within several Clubs, Swans, Hawks, & Geelong not the Dees.  I must say I’m surprised that anyone is doubting this mail because as I say,  prior to my Post,  Dan H was only being mentioned in injury reports.

I love Hannah Berri as a player, but we simply do not need any more of his type and the Dees.

Pace, outside run (both ways), and ability to consistently deliver inside 50 are our prime needs. Gaff has to be a target, playing alongside our fit and firing Hunt.

To be fair, there is no proof that this has occurred.  When there is then he gets the tick of approval, like Chook from Perth gets as he has runs on the board.

I'd be unbelievably surprised if we were keen earlier in the year in a once paced midfielder whose body is breaking down.  It doesn't fit what we need going forward.  It's been well known that we have huge interest in Gaff, so why we think we would be able to trade for and then take on the contract of Hannebery has me beat.

This isn't a knock on the OP by the way, just experience from years and years of off seasons on the internet and having people say they have an inside source or whatever and then it turns out completely wrong.

DH might not pass the no DH test.

on a serious note, just as we bought in Lewis, it could about bringing in leadership and traits.  If Vince and maybe Lewis are done, and Jones is into the twilight era, maybe he serves a role as our otherwise very young team evolves.  If you take out Lewis Vince and Jones, out average age is about 14. If Sydney will pay 20% and it wasn’t a huge contract, he would certainly be an upgrade on Balic.  I would be careful re the high pick, hopefully that means 60ish and not 1st round...

No doubt from here, I take it in good faith/on face value. Who is doubtful as to the veracity?

Good points, too. A summer off and he might be fine. Due diligence needed. He's only, what, 26?

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
