Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Farewell Jesse Hogan

Something that I don’t think anyone has considered is money. He’s 24 next year and in the last year of his contract, obviously none of us know how much he’s on but it would be fair to assume it would be quite substantial. Part of his contract would of been based on potential and the go home factor. This next contract should be naturally larger and his “payday”. But if his inability to perform in big games continues or a potential move to defence was to occur (I can’t see this happening, I think he would change clubs to where he could play forward) then he would/should be offered a contract that reflects his worth to the team. This could result in a significant difference between what we’re offering a what another club may offer.

Great insight. Pay on hitting KPIs and performance, not so much potential (just my opinion). Would like to see him tear some big name teams apart next year to justify uber $$$.

Let me put it this way...  I like Jesse Hogan... and I am virtually the first on here to push for us to recruit him,,, in the very first place when he was a 17Yr old, or younger !

Now I was also the one pushing for us to recruit Weideman.

I was also the main one pushing for us to play TMc as a CHF/Follower,,, when we got injuries to Gawn and Spencer.

(which you're backtracking on now, but I've PROVEN you want to do above, not that I expect you to see the simple fact I've shone a light on) is to debunk the ridiculous, and frankly absurd idea that the club gets anywhere with the trade you propose.

Get this through your head. I DON'T BELIEVE WE NEED ANOTHER BIG NAME MIDFIELDER. Why? Because I'm not stupid. You can think what you want, but you open yourself up to ridicule when you try to pass your crackpot theories off as "facts."

If we do need another player, midfielder or otherwise, there's plenty of other avenues to take.

Pointing out facts, DV. You should be used to it by now.

No, playing the man DD.

You remind me of a wannabe TV star doing the rounds.   Short on talent but will do anything to get a gig.

This one, Andy Lee, happens to be a Carton supporter.

So here we ware again.

What I want is to get class Mids onto OUR list.  the easiest way we can.

I think what you want in all this is just to be malicious.

And now it is,  I am pushing for us to recruit a topline classy experienced mid... but the key to doing this is,,, what have we got to use to satisfy another club. If we identify a player that suits these needs.

So you see, what I want are classy mids, in RednBlue_  Not to trade out a player who I really like.  The crux is, we have to give up something, to get something we really need.

So I am trying to be creative.

What is it you think you are trying to do?

.

Lol weren't you banned from Demonland around this period for a couple of years??

Meanwhile back at the ranch...

I noted an article ( behind paywall...but quickly read at cafe ) ..Jay Clark HS ..other day writing along lines some here ( myself included ) suggest as to are we better/ worse ..with or without Jesse and what is his actual value...is ..as player...or tradable asset ?

Almost like he read this thread ??

I still think it's a valid  question deserving of more than dismissive rhetoric.

Is he necessary to a flag ? I don't  think as much as what his worth might get in some A mid(s) etc.

LOL those guys should get their own thread.

I'm with you. It should be up for a mature analysis and debate if nothing else.

I'll have a look for the article so thanks ;)

This is driving me nuts; I have bitten my proverbial tongue but...

Three dots in a row is an 'ellipsis' and it is used to replace superfluous text and I use it as a way of leading the reader to a 'open question' or statement.

But three commas in a row is not anything. It is usually followed by the 'sticky keys' popup that comes up wondering whether you need help easing use of the keyboard and avoid injuries.

,,,

Just no.

no to trading hogan

but play him at chf....please

one thing we are short on is kp players. one goes down we are in trouble, two we are in deep sh.. (p.s. i don't consider lever a genuine kpp)

whilst i think his best position is chf i wouldn't be averse to him being tried at chb (or a swing-man kp player)

Hogan absolutely needs to be played as a CHF that covers territory. Pushing into the middle and occasionally tracking back.

He can play at CHB

He was All Australian in that position before we drafted him

Nice point, but note that most style guides insist on a space before an ellipsis ...

Funny ... in a fashion, in this thread some sanity prevails and a reasonable discussion of the good/bad/ otherwise of Hogan even allows the floating of the idea he play HB. Elsewhere it's lampooned.

I never quite got that. Tmac was a fwd when younger. Indeed when drafted ( iirc) it was to play fwd. For whatever reason that didn't last long and he played down back ... until the clever idea of moving him forward.

Hogan was a back. Might explain his god awful approach in kicking ;) So why would you not think it a possibility to play him there. But ... he was brought here ( Dees ) to kick goals. His effectiveness is severely reduced against decent opposition who have worked out how to nueter him. Net result those games ... not a lot really.

Games against less capable opposition he can/not-always have a day out. Could be argued that anyone could kick those goals. So is Hogan of any profound use only then ?

This is where some, and I agree, think that Hogan's value to us may be best realised ... not playing for us.

Many folk are now simply trying to find where to put him. For mine it's the trade table. Not because I don't think he can play. He can. I just don't think he's the 'result' we were all hoping for.

I’ve been a big advocate for the trade.. not because I do not believe in his ability, but more about his current value. I think we have some real needs which could be filled by what Jesses currency allows. No disrespect to Jesse, but I like our side without him in it- playing a more mobile forward line like Richmond. This is just an opinion, and how I believe the game is going to continue to be played for some time.

Jesses biggest challenge is not getting the ball. It is the speed in which he turns to deliver to a target. He often turns, waits and waves hand signals before he kicks it in. For me, he could learn a lot from Melksham.

Current value as a KPF who has suffered a season-ending navicular injury?

Just think about the perception of that in the marketplace: suffers navicular injury, then quickly put up for trade...

I think his value on the market has never been lower. Most clubs would be wary of offering too much.

I would be extremely surprised (and disappointed) if Jesse wanted to go and play for Ross Lyon . . .

What forward would want to play under Lyon’s horrible negative game plan?

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
