Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Farewell Jesse Hogan

How would Hogan go on Buddy, Ben Brown or a Joe Danniher type. If the answer is for Hogan to play in defence that actually strengthens the argument to trade him and a trade should be sought before any such move was to happen. If Hogan was to play in defence it would be an admissioyn of defeat.

The no.1 trait of a key defender isn’t contested marking or kicking, it’s the ability to beat your opponent. That can be by out marking his opponent, but it can also be by punching/spoiling the footy. In order to be at the contest you also have to have the physical attributes to match up against some of the games best forwards. Hogan is a great mark leading up onto the ball but that doesn’t necessarily translate to outmarking fwds that just up at the footy.  As for kicking, yes Hogan uses the ball well when passing by foot while others such as Frost and Omac often get criticised by their disposal but that’s why we’ve got the likes of Salem and Lewis down there. All players are required to kick the footy but there have been numerous times in most games where the ball could/should be passed off to our better users of the footy.

In short I’d rather another gun mid than Hogan playing at CHB.

Firstly, Brown and Daniher are FF’s. Buddy traditionally plays at CHF. But regardless, game day match ups are horses for courses. Frost to Franklin last week is the perfect example.

Jonathan Brown, one of the modern era’s best forwards has been highly critical of Hogan’s positioning and leading methods and it’s hard to disagree with. He can get away with it against the lesser quality defenders but struggles again the better opponents.

Perhaps playing at CHB would give him the opportunity to study the techniques of the competitions best key position forwards close up and learn from them. He is big, strong, agile and has a good tank. We are in desperate need of a quality key defender and Jesse could fit the bill until he is more prepared to take up a forward role. It certainly didn’t do David Neitz any harm.

In direct contrast to you, I’d rather keep Jesse Hogan and try him at CHB than get another mid. Our current group of midfielders seem to do ok I think....

I’m not one to sensationalise, but do we honestly think he’s the answer at FF.

Trade him for two first rounders while he has some currency !

The answer? He's the best FF we've had since Neitz, do you wanna just try a skinny kid in the draft who can't get near the thing?

Please ... he's no Neeta.

Neeta could kick ..and from 50-60 out....when it mattered.

"The news that Jesse Hogan is out of contention to play with the Demons until 2019 after suffering a foot injury during their nine-point loss to the Swans at the MCG last Sunday might have sent feelings of shock and aware through the community of Demon supporters but I’m not overly concerned about the fact that the club’s key forward will be sidelined for the rest of the season.

The reason why is that Melbourne seems to produce its best wins without Hogan in the team"

Food for thought ...surely !!

Why would you trade a bloke with elite agility and running capacity .

Im happy with 40 goals a year as a roaming foward.

And what a credit Jesse is to himself and family after losing his father and battling cancer himself last year .

some wouldnt be able to front up after that . He has kicked on- great character. Particularly for a 23 year old .

He is a good guy also  making time for fans post game .

That is a different scenario if Jesse wanted to go home thats what id expect as a trade

Jesse is a fantastic player. We will not trade him unless he requests a trade back to WA.

If this does happen we would get 2 first rounders plus some I would imagine.

Maybe we can give this a rest for a while.

Hogan has done his bit to help us get to the September, hope his recovery goes well and let’s look forward to Weideman for whatever comes for the remainder of the season.

Wouldn't it be nice. He could kick 80 and win a coleman and you'd see "sell high" threads starting about him.

Interestingly, even in the wake of some joy for Melbourne and their biggest fan in the media, it seems Kingy has been on the D'land boards...

Yes it's a great topic and one that I hope the Dees are discussing with both Jesse and his management.

Clearly if Jesse wants to stay, then we should make every effort to keep him, but if there's a doubt and he has real interest in heading home, then it's worth considering and taking a rational path and plan.

Jesse is a huge talent (arguably our most natural talent since Allen Jakovich), yet he is also our biggest off-field problem and whilst footy clubs cover up indiscretions of stars, they can prove costly to team harmony because having one rule for one player and a different set of rules for others can create divisions - just look at Gary Ablett's impact at Geelong this year.

The other factor to consider is that Freo, as Kingy mentions, has a pick that would go some way to meet our requirements - pick 6 or 7. personally I reckon we would want their 2019 second round pick as well of we went down that path. With their pick 6 or 7 we would most likely have the potential to draft whichever King brother remains available or if we wanted to make a play for Jack Billings, it would give us the ammunition to get that deal done - I'd want the Saints second rounder for 2019 in return for Billings and our acquired pick 6 or 7 though.

Ultimately the club has to weigh it up and insiders would have the biggest idea of Jesse's wish to stay in Melbourne. If I was on the Dees admin I'd be having a serious off-the-record chat with Harmsey about it.

Ah the experts are now where many of us were at a  few weeks back.

Interesting that King mentions trading Jess for pick 7...easy decision ....No.

It gets harder for Freo's next 2 first rounders ..but I would want to be sure about the AFL's position on priority picks for Carlton and the Suns. Would also be influenced by what we could ontrade for given the spare salary cap.

A mature club looks at these things with a hard head.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
