Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Goody has deferred to stability over past few weeks

Perhaps minimum changes?

In: Melksham, Hibberd

Out: Hogan, Hunt

I actually wouldn’t mind this. I’ve only included Kent for Spargo as the youngster looks like he’s running of petrol tickets. Slower in mind and body on the weekend.

You did see Hunt limp off? You do know he is out for 2-4 weeks? You still considering him for this week?

Yeah, I forgot all about Hunt being hurt again.

So he's another out.  We are running out of soldiers.

Vanders has to go out.  He was suppose to play on Allir Allir on Sunday and he tore us apart.

He sure did early.  Or we played into his hands... pretty dumb footy.

Still, we were scraping the barrel, looking for who to play.   And still are, again.

Wish I shared your faith 'P-man'...

I’m a believer. He wasn’t great on Sunday but I’m of the school of thought that it takes more than a week for some players to readjust and I believe he’ll be better this week. He generally isnt afforded second chances so Weed is a definite chance to come in but for me he’s too much of a risk.

Its longer than the 'G'.

We haven't played the wider and bigger grounds well, as yet.  Narrower grounds, we've handled.

I thought it was pretty much the same length as the G but slightly narrower.

3 options for Goodwin:

Pedersen to FF

Weideman in and FF

or wouldn’t be surprised if they move Petracca there ala Coll game last year

Considering Hogan’s record against the better sides (1.15) we only need someone to snag 1-2, mids and Tommy will do the rest. Kent and Hannan bring extra firepower and they only need 7-8 touches to do it. Best back will go to Tommy and he’ll run them ragged anyway. We won there last year without Hogan.

Hibberd and Melksham replace Hogan and Hunt.

But that requires Pedersen to play forward and relief ruck. He's been playing back for Casey all year so I don't think we're about to throw him forward in a must-win game.

There's no point having Weideman on the list if we don't play him when we need a key forward. I'd bring him in for Pedersen who doesn't have a match up with Hibberd coming back.

Then there's only the question of whether we retain all of Spargo, Garlett and JKH or whether one is dropped for Kent or Hannan. Given we're already making a minimum of two changes, possibly not.

Oh, so 1.15 per game, not one goal fifteen behinds...  need a cup of coffee to get the brain on the rails.  Still, not a great return.  But he did take a key back.

My mistake mate, I should've been clearer, might grab a coffee myself!

Here are the stats I put up on Monday in case you missed it.

Hogan: Has kicked only 9 goals in 8 games vs the top 10 at an average of just 1.12 goals per game, being goalless twice and kicking 1 on 4 occasions. In contrast vs the bottom 8 he has kicked 38 goals in 12 games at an average of 3.16 per game. That is flat track territory and gives weight to those that are arguing this point.

TMAC on the other hand this year missed a few games at the start but in his 4 games against the top 10 has booted 15 goals at an average of 3.75 per game and 27 goals in 11 games vs bottom 8 at 2.45 per game.

really interesting stats. I just wonder though if Hogan doesnt assist Tom in those figures by drawing a key defender away.

As much as Jesse does seem to have become a bit of a down hill skier this year. I cant remember it being like this in previous years. Looking at him move makes me wonder if he's just too injured to excel at the top of the top level. I dont mean his foot I mean his back etc etc. Anyone that watches him run would be wondering just how long a career someone with his body can last in the game.

Yep definitely takes a good defender and I remember previous seasons of his down hill skiing. Some people might say TMAC didnt play v Tiges, Hawks etc but he has consistently performed better against the better sides since being back while Hogan been MIA. TMAC is our best forward now, especially consistency wise.

And good point, Jesse runs like a crooked old man at times and as highlighted On The Couch, his leading and positioning is way out of whack, TMAC seems to get it right most times.

Pedersons  field kicking hasn’t been up to scratch after not playing at the highest level for most of the year .

Id play him out of the square this week trying to drag McGovern away or at least bringing the ball to ground . And if he shoots he scores .

with Tmac Vanders Milkshake and Garlett and Anb as first set up .

I would prefer to use Weids, he can crash packs and bring the ball to ground, and will trouble defenders with his leads.  Pedo has been down back as the intercept marker for most of the season, and I would think didnt do enough to show he can rotate hi/lo in the forward 50.  Putting him in the square?  We could keep Jesse in to do that.

Vanders on Alir was a crappy match up.

AVB was never going to beat him in the air the way it was bombed in. It was almost like we were passing it to Alir for most of the day.

Agreed. It was a ridiculous match up, literally the last person you should put on Aliir is a bulky mid sized dude with no athleticism.

I would bring in Weids and tell him his sole job this weekend is to make McGovern accountable, and nullify aerial contests to bring the ball to ground.

Great learning experience, and at least Weids has the height and athleticism to compete with McGovern in the air.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
