Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

vanders: The Return

Vanders will hopefully take JKH's spot when Melk and Hibberd come back in. Can play patches in the middle and forward.

Still a bit concerned with his fitness. He certainly faded after half time. But was effective early on with a team high 6 inside 50's.

Good on him for making it back to the top level, but his disposal simply isn't good enough for him to be anything other than depth in a good side. A bit sad really, because he does have some very handy characteristics.

ONE game in 2 years -- of course he was going to take some time to attune to the pace of the game.

Fortunately we could (re)-blood him vs GC$ and IMVHO he did OK - nothing spectacular but I think good enough to get him another game v much tougher opposition.

It was the forgotten return of the round but I thought vanders showed why he deserves a place in the team. I loved the crowds reactions when he came on the field and we he got the ball. I was disappointed that we did not get to hear the roar of the crowd when he kicked a goal and he had 2 chance to do just that.

Welcome back vanders.

Well said, welcome back Vanders!

Really? After almost two years out of the AFL team I didn't expect him to show why he deserves a place in the team, and IMO he didn't show that he deserved a place in the team. I've got to admit I thought he was pretty average, but that's not to say he can't improve. Given our injuries I think he'll get at least one more game to strut his stuff, and I'll be interested to see how he goes.

I think the idea of Vanders is better than the reality unfortunately, I know it was his first senior game in 2 years, but he got turned inside out a number of times against an ordinary gc side allowing the ball to come out of the 50 much to easily. It also doesn’t appear his kicking on the run has improved in his time out either, this is the same reason people get frustrated with Bugg, ANB and Kent. He also got caught out a a few times with the ball but I think that will improve as he gets used to the pace. On a positive note I do like his size around the contest particularly running though packs and creating a bit of chaos

If Kent can start producing what he was earlier this year, I think he would have Vanders measure this season.  Kent strung together an excellent run of form and bought real pace and intensity to the side ...and then got injured.  To some extent Vanders is also competing with Trac for that mid-forward bull role and unless he gets injured Trac is by far the superior option there.  But regardless of natural talent and athletic attributes, it's certainly can't hurt to have depth, good competition for spots and Vanders certainly does have that hard competitive edge to him that is of great value either in or out of the side.

Regardless of the level of contribution he makes this year, I very glad that Vanders had made it back this far.  We have had too many players completely crueled by long term injuries at Melbourne over the preceeding 5 years.  Would be happy to see him offered another contract and see what he can do with another preseason.

Vanders looked like a poor man's Tyson out there on the weekend. Which is exactly how he may have been described at times in the past. There's not much more to it. It was an average first game back after a long lay-off. He will need to show improvement - which I personally think he's capable of. But discussing it is almost pointless at this stage. Check back in March next year.

Untackable - is that a word?

The X factor leading up to the finals

Untackable means you don't have the agility to move off your line.

Untackelable means you can't be tackled.

AVB was both highly untackable and thus highly tackelable.

Was pumped to see Vanders play on the weekend. First game back in 2 years so I have no issue with the the disposal and keeping up with the pace of an AFL game, will be much better for the run!

One thing that got me out of my seat was seeing him give a GC a dusty style dont argue in the 4th quarter. Seemed to run out the game well which is pleasing after a long lay off.

Kent, Vanders, Trac ... all good points that the FD should be analysing instead of Vince, JKH and Spargo, at present.

Moves like a semi trailer, slow, big turning circle and can’t kick, couldn’t see him running up and down the ground defending either, good luck to him for persevering, he is what he is, game has changed dramatically, would be cut to pieces agin the hard running swans.

Wow. Little faith there. He got 15 posies and did enough.

Didn’t see the world on fire but you could see he was feeling his way into it.

Give him a few weeks. He was equal with JKH at least and should improve on that. Give him another game see what happens.

Also like to see Kent get back to Gis early season form. Underrated earlier in the year. .

I think Hannan's shown so much more than AVB so far that it's not funny, and I'm confident that Hannan has been playing much of the season under significant duress.

Do you mean those 5 weeks of zero impact?

Without knowing what 'significant duress' you are talking about, I hope he seeks support

Noted that none have him being dropped for Weagles...

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
