Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

For someone who backed mfc by 100, I'm bitterly disappointed considering the vfl team listed by gc.

Hhowever it was a professional performance by dees. Belting the opposition as quickly as possible and coast home ala hawthorn 4 years ago or Usain bolt.

Yeah Bailey Fritsch let us down with that miss after the siren big time ?

Yeah there's some real heart in your mouth stuff every time he gets the ball. You never really know what's going to happen.

He also had some accountability probs where he'd come off his man chasing the ball and get caught out.

It's interesting to watch him slowly improve his game.

He could end up being a really good and damaging player for us.

My thoughts are that he is improving so well that he is nearly there - a gun - a few more matches, some mentoring and coaching work on his deliveries and who knows?

Acknowledge all your points but I don't recall any sympathy from anyone when we were down and just about out.

It's the AFL's job to patch up GCS.

It's our job to gloat about victories and march ever on to more of them.

It's a tough world but GC has not endured the history as poor as the MFC in recent years. The AFL must address disparity, where it exists but the GC team has plenty of younger, talented players - and has a good coach - and tides turn continuously. Preferential treatment from the AFL at the other end of the League of teams is the major problem, rather than stop-gapping the underperforming.

You know, Bailey is going to kick the winner, sometime in the near future. He will possibly do it several times - such is his class.

I'll leave the first one as it's something that we would never know, but you would hope so. However, it is connected to my view that the GC team that took the field today is the worst team in the history of the AFL. They are a poor team at full strength and were missing the following players today: Lynch, May, Swallow, Martin, Thompson, Wright, Day, Hall, Ainsworth and Rosa. This list includes their top 5 key position options. Considering I've seen Melbourne in 2013, Fitzroy and PA, Freo, GC and GWS entering the competition I think I am fairly well placed to make that call and I would challenge anyone to name a worse team. There is a reason they were paying $15 prior to the game.

I agree Frisch is generally a good kick and I love the ball in his hand but his kicking was shocking today. Oliver's kicking was also quite poor today after the gem to JKH in the first quarter.

One thing that I think can be said for GC team that played yesterday was that they played with effort and endeavor which is something we certainly didn’t in the 186 game, so on that measure alone, they are not the worst team to be fielded in history.

At quarter time I was actually hoping that there was a chance we could supercede 186, but I don't think we as good as that Geelong side (yet) and neither were GC probably that bad.

The other factor that may have played into things, which I'm sure the coaches would publicly deny is that my guess is that they would have held back ground time for key players like Gawn for next week and I'm not sure we would have seen Clarry play as much time forward against better opposition.

A phrase I am not used to saying at the end of first quarter:

"In the bag"

Some real positives from the game:

Jeffy: is showing some real effort.

Tyson: looking improved.

Smith: (before the injury) looked poised and will only continue to improve next year.

Salem; played a beautiful game.

What's going on with Tommy Mac's goal kicking?

He has developed a serious case of the yips these past 3 - 4 weeks.  Letting down his elite set shot accuracy record badly.

So long as he can correct it and steer it through the big sticks when it might count more in the weeks to come, I'll let him off with some of his descrepancies of recient times.

On the flip side, Jessy appears to have mostly sorted out the horror run of bad misses he had a few years back.

I would like to challenge you to kick that ball accurately when the wind was horrendous....it nearly blew you over outside the ground.  I go back to Jordan Lewis who when asked how difficult was it to get yourself up when you were the “hunted” every week...he said it was easy to get yourself up for the legitimate challengers but a lot more difficult to get yourself up for the “ones you were supposed to win” . Sometimes I think we forget where our club has been ...the thrashing’s we have witnessed & now expect so much...the game  wasn’t always pretty but when it was ...the skills & efforts of the players were mind blowing...

James Harmes is quietly having a breakout season and adding another young dynamo to our already talent laden midfield.    Will he tag  Parker, Kennedy or Heeney this week?

Harmes just keeps steadily building his game year on year.  One thing I have liked about his tagging role is that once he gets on top, he still gets involved offensively as well - was particularly evident against Adelaide.

One other aspect to his game which was particularly on show yesterday is his ability to kick goals.  A key plank of the great sides of the modern era (Brisbane, Geelong, Hawthorn) was to have a plethora of goal kicking mids, which is something the likes that we are now building with Clarry, Gus, Harmes, Brayshaw, Melksham, Trac and to some extent with some of our defenders the likes of Salem, Hibbard and perhaps even the odd goal from Lewis.

Before yesterday, TMAC had kicked 10.4 in the previous 3 weeks.

3.1 v WB

4.2 v Geel

3.1 v Adel

He's allowed a bad day I think, he'll get it back on track mate (I hope).

Not sure what Hogan did during the week, but he looked like a new man.  Was moving beautifully and his closing speed was great.

Garlett also looked great  ...   yes I know the opposition was atrocious, but if he takes confidence from that game it will help a lot.

Liked the way he is moving and bullying the opposition out of it when he wins those ground balls and then turning and delivering the ball to team mates with confidence.  He has had some down games of late and didn't make a huge impact for most of the game against Adelaide last week, but I have liked the way he has kept persevering.  Might not have stared against Adelaide, but still contributed with that goal from a free late in the third and I thought his effort to bring the ball to ground in the final major play that ended with a gather by Trac and goal to ANB was crucial.

The other who has found their mojo in recient weeks is Trac.  That powerful mark he took deep forward yesterday is certainly something we could do with more of over the next few weeks.

That's exactly what I'm aluding to.  Prior to that he had kicked probably 20.3 for the season.  I had built so much faith in his remarkable accuracy that I thought I could relax and pencil it down as a goal whenever he marked inside 50.  Huge fan of Tommy's and what he has brought to us as a key forward is awsome.  I'm just being greedy that's all.

Well the game resulted pretty much where people thaught it would. A comfortable win.

We got our block of goals in the first quarter which is a little different.

Losing Smith I think was a blow as he played his best footy for us. Has got good pace off the backline.

Feel sorry for GC but at least they went out and tried. Their 3rd quarter was not bad.

Too many low stabbing passes around the middle of the ground. The swans will tear us up if we repeat them.

A couple of apparently lazy around the corner bombs from Brayshaw were not that enjoyable. Hope that is stamped out.

He is such a robotic dead straight kick without the need for many nuances and allowances in his action that I believe the strong swirly winds got him yesterday. Like a bug infecting computer software.

Just finished watching replay.

How sad for Smith. He was looking bloody good.

I loved the effort of all the players.

To quibble: Jay Kennedy Harris is a worry. As is, I'm afraid to say it, Vince.

Best game I've seen Tyson play. I didn't see one turnover. Hopefully he's turned the corner and getting his mojo back.

I love Frost but I get delirium tremens when he kicks or hand passes. Still, there is tremendous upside.

Great to see Vandenberg again: he's an important player.

T. Mc had one of those days but he was still a very nady and important player.

We should beat the Swans.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
