Demonland

Friday Night Lights 2019

Recommended Posts

We'll be rewarded with two Fri games, one coming off a 5 day break, against GCS at the Gabba. The other against WB at Ballarat in an icy gale in front of 2000 people.

Carlton will be punished by only getting 5 Fri games, and only 4 of them against top drawing clubs.

Collingwood will experience the full warmth of the AFL's merit based Fri night selection. For their crowd pleasing style & ladder climbing prowess they will earn 8 Fri nite games.

It's not just 7.50PM games though. Lots of kids will be in bed before half time, if not earlier.

That’s still an hour of Prime Time that little kids see.

“Dad can we go and watch The Demons..”

We have NEVER owned Prime Time. That must change.

Good for exposure and hopefully more sponsor s personally I hate attending Friday nights. Day games are this family man's go

There are a number of aspects to our draw which I'd hope to see improve next year based on our improvement this year, and what should be a desire from the AFL to be more even with fixturing.

One of those is Friday night games - only one last year and one this year, both against interstate clubs, and this year's game an away game. That hopefully changes. But it's not just Friday nights, it's Saturday nights too. We had four Saturday nights this year but all four were interstate against interstate sides, and three were away games. We haven't had a Saturday night MCG home game since 2015 (vs Sydney) and we haven't had one against a Victorian club since 2014 (vs the Dogs). There's scope to get us into that timeslot too.

And then there's the mix of Saturday and Sunday games. There's a reason why clubs don't want Sunday games, but this year we get 11 (and of those, 8 in the 3.20pm timeslot). Only one Saturday afternoon home game all year (vs North) and only one other Saturday afternoon away game (vs the Dogs).

Understand the monetary rewards for the club in more night games, but as someone who prefers to attend games over watching tv, it’s going to reduce the value I get out of my membership.

I guess I’m in the minority, but afternoons (preferably Saturday) is the best time to attend. Not only is the quality of footy better during the day due to lack of dew and reduced ball fumbling, pretty confident average scores for day games are well above night games.

Day games also are much better for going out with family and friends afterwards to celebrate a win with drinks and dinner and still get home at a reasonable time.

Money overrides everything and the attending spectator is becoming increasingly irrelevant.

I generally agree - I find it easier to go to afternoon games.

But playing, say, 7-8 night games per year isn't the end of the world, and is good for the club. We'll still be playing the majority of our games in the day, we're not going to turn into Sydney for example (they play 18 games this year at night or twilight and only 4 in the day).

Thursday night, Friday night and Saturday night bring it on. We need the exposure  and it will make the team tv stars. We might even and up with a Logie.

No Sunday  or twilight games and no Dessert games .  Move over Blues you had your go and you stuffed it.
