Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I would like to see Tim Smith come in for Jesse if he needs a weeks rest. If AVB is given the nod instead, this could allow Clarrie to go forward longer. Id rather Jesse stay but he probably needs a freshener.

Hard to see any changes this week unless someone pulls up sore or catches Hoges' flu.

Biggest issues now are figuring out the best way for O.Mac and Jesse to regain confidence and how to find room for Vanders.

My own personal view on the first one is to try switching ends for both O.Mac and Jesse - at least until half time. Just so they can get a different perspective.

As to Vanders, the only possible out, if we have to pull the pin, is Spargo, given that Jeffy performed well and I'd want Charlie back in the following week.

Line-ball, but I'd go the other way DSpence (assuming the MC reckon Vanders can run out most of a game).  The oppo have been walking through Sparg's tackles for a few weeks now, and that won't happen with Vanders.  Give him a run now I reckon, so he has time to 'acclimatize' and build into September, assuming we make it that far.  His experience, body size and pressure will be an invaluable in finals.

LOL he has played 28 games.

The defence needs a better structure to support OMc

As we are talking 'gap filing' so often this year on DL, I firstly agree that the fullback does need support of a variety of types to take advantage of a superior last line, second last line of the defensive set-up. My issue is with OMac; he seems to particularly need a great deal of support in every regard - and constantly - excepting a bare minimum 'few' occasions where that support might not have been available and luck more than skills enabled a clearance before another opposition rebound. I watched OMac close-up very carefully for two quarters against the Crows, and from a distance for the other 2 qtrs. He looks lost, goes roaming a does not stand shoulder-to-shoulder with his opponent, and is slow to respond once that his eyes/brain confirm that the ball or an attacker is coming into the hot spot. When necessary, most of the time, he is caught out of zone due to the same slow reaction or readiness to compete. When he competes he is often just brushed aside and takes up a 'roving' position out of the pack, melee, contest quite some distance away - and out of harm's way. Our team must overcome this and so does by providing a double workload on all others defenders attempting to do those things that support OMac whilst still providing their own functions with opposition players and the critical moments of game proximity, and nearly all of OMac's role, as well. Sad realisation but true, and suspected most of this season. Let's get a big-bodied, mobile, certified fullback into that spot right now - one who sees ball, gets ball and who does not need so much 'heavy support' to do his job.

Smith needs more games.... probably.

Are these next 4 games the ones I ask myself. No. We need the very best 22 ...players for jobs ,( able to be done well )

Now's not a time to blood...or near to ,players.

He's best 22 until Hibberd and/or Hunt come back.

He does some really good things but brings them unstuck by doing some really bad things.

Hogan IMO is Not your typical tall forward.   He doesn't have a big leap or reach.  So he's not a deep forward.

He is getting crashed when playing deep, with the ball being kicked on his head.

He is more your mobile CHF who does his best when moving around the field, a bit like Schwarta.

Weide will be your deep forward.

TMc is also a CHF, who rolls back with the ball.

Jesse needs a rest, before its too late to give him that.  I think Hogan needs 2 weeks off to unload.

Pedo is ready and waiting, can do 3 major roles.  Weide is waiting.

Hannan, IMO, could play intercept defender.

Hogan is the type of player who can make quite an impact across the centre of the ground and he'll even go to the half back line to support the defenders. It was there he got his first couple of touches on Saturday night. There are plenty of threats to oppo backlines without Hogan down there. I like the ability to kick big scores without arguably our most dangerous forward having a strong hand in it.

I like Smith, good closing speed. If he plays to his limitations and gets the ball in the hands of those who can use the ball better by foot then he is a keeper in the 22 for me.

Hogan is way off the pace at the moment. Pedo in this week, get Jesse cherry ripe for the last 3 rounds.

Couldnt have said it better myself. The midfield are required to do a lot of that support. Added to this is teams try to isolate him quite often because his one on one skills are not the best.

He looked better when Lever had played a few games and there was a bit of sync there but his one on one is heart in mouth stuff, his intensity I don't think can ever be changed. He has better skills than Frost but Frost has more weapons with his strength and speed. We be good if could somehow 'merge' them....

I'd be happy for Pedo to come in. Has far more attributes than Smith ( at this stage of his career )

Its time to get some reassurance back into the defence... OMc is suffering from our leaking thru the corridor, lack of defensive pressure thru half-forward and center-lines.

So OMc needs assistance.

With Hibberd out and Jetta sore, we need another sweeper.  I think Hannan off the wing or as small defender, along with Fritz.

The other is Baker???   to play this role, but Hannan is a better ball user.   Baker is a bit suss Re disposal,,, but is a good runner/line_breaker?

Spargo's inability to stick tackles is a worry heading into the final month.  I think there is a lot to gain from getting AVB back in the team now so he can get up to speed.

I think he's mentally tired... is mature, but maybe needs 2 weeks off at Casey to refresh limited time on-field... and re-find the intensity he started with.

But his smarts are there for all to see.   He will be needed in finals.

I don’t know if we can afford to have another debutant flounder in defence like we did against St Kilda.  Frost isn’t a world beater but we needed him in against the Saints.  Baker gets his chance next year, every game is life and death to our season.  I would have thought that would have been our motto all year ??‍♂️

I live interstate and haven’t seen baker live yet. But watching on tv he just doesn’t look ready to me. If we were bottom 4 and blooding young players as we would “normally” be in August , then sure give him a run. But given the tightness of the company, every goal we get and give away against Gold Coast could yet b vital. Leave him be fr 2018, Get another pre season into him.

I still reckon we can play Frost as a tall winger. Or Pedo.

But I like,,,,, in our current setup, a winger who can roll back to defence to chop-out our kids, back there.   to go back as intercept.

Pedo is actually a beautiful kick, so would be more dangerous kicking into out F50.   He could easily take his role into the ruck from the wing position, as Gawn rests forward.

Peds, sure as he's played a lead up role as CHF before and performed well spreading and marking on wings.

But to play wing you need to have good kicking and Frost is too much of a liability at the moment. Much better for him to continue to play behind the ball. He has improved our structure since Lever went down and is more then adequate at taking the oppositions best or second key tall.

We have some pretty good players to come back who could make an impact finals .

Viney

Hibberd

Hunt

Vanders

Maybe Kent if he can hit form.

I think it is too late in the season to be experimenting with positions, Smith hasn't played wing since he has been in the team and likewise Pedo as a key back.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
