Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

No change, unless Hogan genuinely needs a rest or is carrying an injury, in which case the better of Pedersen/Weideman to replace him.

No one good enough available to come in to replace Smith, our worst player (by a mile, IMO), until Hibberd is fit (Hunt will need VFL game time first).

JKH and Spargo both did enough to hold their spots over the current VFL contenders.

Clearly a week there. Hit him high after the ball was gone.

Agree, didn’t Tex Walker cop that week for a near identical incident?

Hogan definitely needs a rest IMO. We need him firing in September and he is not offering more than Pedersen, Smith or Weideman would at the moment. Of the three, I would go for Pedersen, but I can see a case for the others.

Hannan has not played for two weeks and could do with a run in the VFL. Likewise Vandenberg would benefit from another game in the VFL.

Kent for Spargo

I'm not convinced that we should play both Garlett and Spargo. Spargo seems to show more drive but can't do it for a whole game just yet. Perhaps Spargo should go for vandenBerg (if he's ready) or Kent. I'm no fan of Wagner, but he's in real trouble if he can't get a game ahead of J Smith.

J Smith has wagner covered for speed which is  vital with our high press. Frost and smith help a lot pushing back with pace. When hibberd returns i wouldn't be surprised to see vince pushed out again. I believe lever struggled in his first few games until he got his positioning better and able to cover back.

I was quite impressed with Smith. Created a few good contests and got a fist in at important times to kill the ball and prevent goals from being scored. Ordinary disposal, but has a role and playing it to justify his spot.

Spargo can play alongside Garlett. There can never be too many small forwards to create forward pressure and intensity. Even if it's taking one of their defenders, this allows Garlett to be more free. A lot more dangerous worrying about two smalls than one. Didn't do too much against the Crows, but had a few good weeks before that. Doesn't get dropped on the back of one ordinary game in a winning side.

For me, no change. Review how VFL team goes next weekend, as there could be some crucial and big ins against Sydney in Viney, Hibberd, Hunt, Kent.

Spargo seemed to be roving to Gawn quite well in patches around the ground - an old-time concept, I know but it was the best way to describe it - and with some confidence from other players at stoppages. He attracted some close defensive attention from the Crows, in effect to free up other Demon fwds where, without the rain, some considerable scoring may have resulted. Spargo's pace worried most defenders on Saturday night, and caused some disarray with the Crows backline - with the ball coming in quite regularly, both low/high and fast. In these regards, with experience and improving strength at the contest, Spargo looks like he is going to be 'the goods' in future Demon ball movement.

Agree with all of this. I really think we need to get games into Smith and enable him to build his confidence. He's 5cm taller than Hibberd and has a reasonable leap (unlike Hibbo). If it came to the crunch we may be able to go with Frost, Smith and Hibbo ie drop OMac who struggles when the ball is below his waist.

Not as silly a concept as some might think; Smith is developmentally impressive. In addition, Hibberd was quite a forward asset with Essendrug, using his run and carry, bulk and his good kicking.

The more games Smith gets the better. I was terribly frustrated with him on Saturday night but I still have a lot of faith that he is going to be a valuable part of the back 6 in time. Maybe needs another pre-season but I do feel it will come together for him once he gains some more 'football sense'. He's got some great natural tools.

Did not go for any marks just parried the ball to ground, cant put two hands above his head.

Shoulder injury me thinks...

Hogan IMO is Not your typical tall forward.   He doesn't have a big leap or reach.  So he's not a deep forward.

He is getting crashed when playing deep, with the ball being kicked on his head.

He is more your mobile CHF who does his best when moving around the field, a bit like Schwarta.

Weide will be your deep forward.

TMc is also a CHF, who rolls back with the ball.

Jesse needs a rest, before its too late to give him that.  I think Hogan needs 2 weeks off to unload.

Pedo is ready and waiting, can do 3 major roles.  Weide is waiting.

Hannan, IMO, could play intercept defender.

Surprised on the calls to drop JKH, that was just about the best game I’ve seen him play from memory.

Only change (non injury enforced, ie Hoges) would be Smith. Killed us regularly. I wonder if it’s worth it with Hibbo only a few weeks away though given his replacement (Wagner) would only be a temp.

Time for Pedo to play back.

Smith will be good, i''m sure, but isn't ready to be a main wheel in defence.

The defence needs a better structure to support OMc.

I have a feeling Hannan could help, either as a small intercept defender, or from the wing, pushing toward back 50.   Another Fritz type defensive role, if you like.

The bye for Casey could not have come at a worse time. We had one about now last year.

It can really kill the momentum for players trying to break into the senior side.

Had AVB played a blinder I suspect we would have seen him next week but my guess is no change.

On the other hand, none get hurt playing and it freshens them up...    form?  v  fitness/health.

Pedo and Weide will be fit, and ready and waiting.

After a few games hard at it, a week off will probably do more good for AVB.

He'll get his chance, but not ready yet; for the big step-up in intensity. imo.

No change. Why is Hogan being questioned ATM. Not in great form and was sick but he will tie up the oppositions best defender. Resting players coz we play gold coast is dangerous thinking.

Why would we rest anyone who is fit to play?  The ladder is more volatile than Trump's twitter feed. Our absolute priority is to win at least 3 more games. Then we can think about what follows. Hogan causes headaches for the opposition and effectively won the game for us Saturday by winning his one on one.  We just cant take the Suns lightly.

I'd be happy for Pedo to come in. Has far more attributes than Smith ( at this stage of his career )

Smith is sort of the mini me version of Frost - some athletic abilities that few possess but it’s edge-of-your-seat time when he has the ball in hand. If he could sort out his disposal skills he could be fantastic. Big if though

No change for me. Must go in with settled side and trust Hogan is fine. Happy to give Smith and Spargo another chance to show their best.

Smith needs more games.... probably.

Are these next 4 games the ones I ask myself. No. We need the very best 22 ...players for jobs ,( able to be done well )

Now's not a time to blood...or near to ,players.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
