Shows the importance of winning games you should (STK) and taking your chances (Geel, Port). Disappointing but we shall see, every side in the 8 or competing are having similar injury woes, it’s quite bizarre except for Richmond

But to say that a Darwin game caused Viney's foot to flare up is bordering on the ridiculous, and the same goes for a quad tear at training (on a very cold day)  nearly two weeks later.  If anything playing in warmer conditions could be better for the soft tissues than playing in the cold and hail and rain like Casey did the previous week, and how the guys have been training.

And doing an ACL, recurrent at that,  a full week after an Alice game in warm but dry conditions - how can one attribute it to the conditions?  NikNat did his knee one week after playing in Perth then flying further than Alice - Melbourne  - BEWARE OF PERTH!

Mono; the fatigue from the Darwin game, can be turned into an advantage to us.

 

IF,  we got the week off after Darwin, in Late July... that is the perfect rest, leading us into the run of games, to the finals.

This can be an advantage to us.

His kicking hasn't been as good this year but his two-way running, his bursts from the backline, his man-on-man strength and his zoning are impossible to replace with one player.

I suspect we'll play Smith or Wagner in his role but whether it's one of them, or Harmes, or Fritsch, it's a major downgrade and right at the wrong time of the year.

You simply can't ignore that. Conditioning and fatigue has an affect on the body, you become unintentionally lazy and your body and mind cut corners to battle the physical and mental fatigue.

Do you have any medical or scientific knowledge to link Lever's ACL injury to playing in 22-degree warmth the week prior?

Or Viney's sore toe to playing humidity? Or a quad pulled 1.5 weeks afterwards, in which time Hibberd had played another complete game?

Where Goodwin refers to "look at our grounds", he could quite easily (and IMO much more likely) be referring to the firmness of the turf we train on.

I reckon you've completely lost it with this one.

He hasn't had any reason to try it before. Outside of Lever going down, our back six has been relatively settled otherwise. 

Plus I doubt he will take too many risks, such as playing someone in a position they haven't played in before, at this stage of the season.

I dont want them to tinker to much with the line up. Tmac doesn't get moved down back. Omac and Frost are the two defensive talls. Vince follows Danger everywhere and Wagner comes in for Pig. Not ideal but you work with what you've got and play your boys where they are best suited. On the smaller ground I'm not against Tyson coming in for Hannan

How does the severity of Hibberd's injury affect our chances of winning this week? He's not playing either way.

I think Wagner has to be the man. Plays a similar role and it would be a plug and play move so our structure isn't unsettled, which I think has been the reason for some of our poor results.

Yup this. Hibberd is so important with his use of the ball rebounding out of the backline. It will be Wagner to replace him who when playing with confidence can really use the ball well. I thought he was unlucky earlier in the year to be dropped. He showed real improvement with his contested work, tackling and competing in the air. 

He's still no where near the player that Hibbo is but he is certainly the best replacement to keep somewhat of the team structures down back and not unsettle things too much.

My thoughts exactly. I think he's got himself in the perfect position to make a real impact at AFL level this season and prove himself. Also is currently is best place to replace Vince/Lewis in near future with very similar attributes.

Hope he gets selected tonight and really proves himself.

I don’t know what the percentages would be but his time in the defensive half seems to have increased in recent weeks. Point taken on the three talls but T Mac’s ability to intercept and read the play is where his value lies. He’s also an actual defender. Fritzel is probably our best kick but a defender he ain’t.

I know it’s a bit of a break glass in case of emergency situation but look at the names being thrown up as replacements. Wagner? Yikes. 

This one will test the coaches. We don’t have have a few weeks to test out different players ala replacing Lever. Every week matters.
