Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

There is a role for Bugg

His name along with a few other MFC players including Stretch were thrown up last night by Roos on Fox. Was in reference to the Blues turning pick 1 into 5 or more players through multiple trades. I'd be okay with Bugg netting us a pick in the the second round but I'd prefer to keep as depth if any offer is lower than that.

a pick in the second round?! he hasn't played this year in the top side has he?.. 3rd/4th round at best mate.

Yeah, I agree but I still think he'd offer more to Carlton than half the players they've got running around on the park. They've coughed up overs for GWS rejects in the past...

Right now he’d quite possibly be their third best mid if they played him there.

Carlton’s situation gets more dire the more you look at it.

Maybe I’m a romantic - is Bugg still relevant in the FD’s eyes? I personally rate him, and also personally don’t think his reportable offence was anywhere near deliberate as people make out (this isn’t the point to debate)- I can even excuse his goal kicking yips because he was getting himself in to position. AND nor do I think he is a ‘pest’. All that preface for one question - will he get a game again for the dees?

i worry about the fact that so many supporters write off our players so easily, most are still young and developing and will over time get better. Bugg seems to be a reasonably good option going forward or even as a tagger, he is hard at it. yes he has missed some goals in the past but he has also kicked a few. We need to best team out on the field for the next few weeks to get us through to the finals and hopefully get some Viney and co back. To disregard his form and take others who are not doing as well in the VFL is foolish.

during the year there has been a lot of people putting down frost, he has come out and done the job better than some of the newer recruits. We need to give these guys time to improve and not write them off so quickly. supporting a club also means supporting the players.

There are too many who detest the Bugg. I wouldnt be surprised if he is close to a dramatic "in" as he finds the footy and although isnt pretty and misses many shots, he bobs up in games. He isnt as flashy as Kent but Id have him, if it came down those two.

I've got no problem with buggy, but the reality is he has seen a handful of guys move ahead of him in the pecking order. He needs to be kicking the door down if he wants to break into this side.

Has played 3 games this year for 11 scoring shots (4G/7B) = 3.6 shots per game

Jeffy 9 games for 22 shots on goal (15G/7B) = 2.4 shots per game

If his conversion rate was better he would be ahead of Jeffy easily.

Surely there is someone in Australia we can buy to help him and others kick better?

By this stage in his career he will not change and so it is good bye for me in approx 8 weeks time.

You think a 25yo can’t change? You didn’t get better at your job past 25 years of age?

Bugg's probably been kicking a footy for 15+ years, so I'm not sure the analogy quite works.

I do think professional players should be able to improve things like goal kicking far more easily than they do.

However, the truth of the matter is that not many 25 year AFL footballers dramatically improve their basic skills.

We are taking about footballers here not the average joe blow doing normal work. A footballers  life is from approx. 14 to 30 for the majority by the time you are 25 you are 70% of the way through your life as a footballer. Did I change Between  55 and 70 ? Certainly did not got better.  I  have seldom seen footballers who are poor kicks for goal change. It would seem that by 25 the problems are so ingrained they cannot change. On top of all that Bugg is a good VFL player and a average AFl player forward on his good days who cannot kick for goal. He will not take us to a GF so lets move on and get someone who can. Sad for Mr. Bugg but that is modern AFL football in the 21st century.

If Bugg could kick accurately we would be having a completely different conversation about him. Gets the ball, runs to the right spots, is hard but kicking definitely lets him down.

I wonder whether a Noel Blundell or other sports psychologist could work with him.....

I am not so sure about this. Firstly there is the fitness angle and older players tend to be better at performing more consistently under pressure. Because he is a fringe player he is probably trying too hard to perform. I certainly remember a couple of times when he got back in the side where he gave the ball off rather than have a shot at goal. That looked like 'fear' to me. And desperately wanting to do the team thing.

Bugg's issue to me doesn't seem to be technical but mental and I think that is something you could fix. I wouldn't be writing him off yet but concede he is up against it..

While I concur he will have a kicking routine that is heavily ingrained, it most certainly can be improved. It just takes more work (on his and his coaches behalf) than changing the kicking style of a 15yo. So the question would seem to be, is his kicking accuracy the main reason he doesn’t get a game (it’s definitely not that he isn’t creating enough opportunity to score)? Or other factors that we are not aware of?

I am not so sure about this.

Name 10 players who significantly improved their kicking after they hit 25. I'll wait ;)

They don't even need to be current players. Choose from anyone who's played in the last 10 years.

...or even the past 20 years, although I reckon that if you're going back very far then I think you've proven my point.

NB: Guys like Boyd, who said they found it easier to effectively dispose of the footy when they moved to a position where they were under less pressure - ie. from mid to HBF - don't count.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
