Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Who do we realistically target for a trade?

I'd certainly be looking at zippy pressure forwards who can roll through the midfield in time.

Intrigued, @dazzledavey36 by that tweet. I wonder what level of player we can consistently attract now. Clearly, Lever is a wonderful get. But if we could get someone else of his calibre and in his rough age bracket, we'd probably have the best list under 25 in the league (if we don't already).

The thing about GWS is that their list is aging and their best players are almost in their prime. Players like Cameron and Shiel will be 26 next year, so if they don't win a flag in the next two years, I reckon they'll lose those guys to Melbourne-based clubs and their window will close.

It'll be fascinating to see how season 2019 unfolds. I'm bloody excited for it. I want that double chance, because I don't think we'll get past Hawthorn this week. I know we're not out of it, but I just don't see it. I hope we can delay these list conversations seriously for at least another week.

So happy we don't have to act like headless chooks and bid for every player who is mentioned as possibly available.

That is the area reserved for the desperate clubs, who just have to grab somebody to satisfy their members that they are doing something.

At our stage of development, we don't need to go after anyone who won't positively impact our list.

That is a great position to be in.

For example, the Cats got Ablett last year to top off their list and get them a flag, or so they thought. While he played well in games, he did not positively impact their list. Therefore, to me it was a failure, unless you are only looking at the publicity and a few more more memberships.

Agree. We are hopefully past threads on Brendan Goddard, Billy Hartung, Nathan Freeman, Dan Hanneberry and Michael Barlow.

But I'm waiting for the reincarnation of the Crameri thread. ?

We will smash Hawthorn this week. We are trending upwards in a big way. It seems things are starting to come together. We should be peaking come grand final day.

A consideration but Preuss is the logical placement, although I know that ScottLucas has discussed Tom Campbell ( Doggies) with the Dees.If he could get his body right, he could be a ripper pick up

I would happily bide our time re: trades.

If we can get Gaff, Preuss, Shiel or Parker without giving up big peices go for it. Also if anyone offers overs for Hunt, Tyson, Kent i'd want the club to look at it. But otherwise, let's get some our 18 year olds through the draft, maybe 1 or 2 older players (22-25) from the state leagues. Then front load as many our contracts as possible, and we can save some cap space for when we really need to target someone in the next few years.

Btw, I would look to trade Bugg, JKH and maybe even garlett, if we can possibly get some more picks in the top 50.

Also a thought. Maybe draft the fastest small forward in the country not playing AFL, and see if we can develop them into an AFL player. With the prospect of playing Hogan Weid and Tmac, we will need to make up for lack of forward pressure.

Betts just signed a new contract with the Crows and looks to have slowed down this year as age catches up with him - is now the wrong side of 30

Preuss deal is weird. Only way he's coming is if the club is worried about Gawn's body. To be fair every player plays hurt and we've seen how much better we are with him vs without. So maybe they want to give him an odd week off next season to keep him fresh. I really don't subscribe to the two ruckmen in the same team when Weid, T. Mac and Hogan will all be pushing to play.

Jon Ralph and Jay Clark just touched on the Hogan talk. Hogan's management nor Hogan himself said he wants to leave. Everything points to him being settled. I remember earlier in the season talk was he wanted a new extended deal. So like we all knew already, nothing in it.

Now the interesting part is (i'm probably reading into something that's not there) Jay Clark said if you needed to move Hogan on you'd only let him go for two first rounders minimum. Which is 100% right given his contract and potential. However he said you would use them to go get J. Kelly. Now with all the talk about Gaff, Shiel, Parker, Neale etc you'd think he'd say one of those names, but he went straight to Kelly. Maybe i was right and it seems obvious Kelly is leaving GWS at the end of his contract and maybe GWS would bite if they got two first rounders right now for him. Maybe he's also  hearing whispers that Melbourne are likely going to be making the play for him which does excite me. Him, Oliver and Brayshaw in the midfield with Gawn tapping it down to them is All star level [censored]. Kelly can also play Half Forward quite effectively, his goal record for a midfielder is quite good.

Aside from that i'm struggling to see holes in the team. Like we've got enough KPF and if the club believes in O. Mac and Frost then we don't really need a KPD. I'd say maybe a fast medium sized forward? Maybe go out and seek another defender for when Lewis hangs up the boots? I do like the idea of Petty getting time but.

We need a little off-season coaching to some internal talent to change their respective roles in games and thus, improve skillsets and conventional responsibilities in a team of the century (MFC). With this in mind for some of our great youngsters, it leaves us in the desirable position to focus on only two draftings/free agents: 1. Gaff, still worth the hunt for our needs; and 2. Preuss, could be anything we want in a big fella with mobile skills, agility and a far Ken big kick, both feet.

Weed's tackling technique is great, but his pressure is no where near elite. He had 4 tackles and 6 pressure acts on the weekend. In comparison, ANB had 9 tackles and 28 pressure acts.

Betts is obviously on the wrong side of 30, but we have a crazy young list that is well and truly in the premiership window. Betts is not at his best, but i think he'll be better than spargo for at least 1 more year, and he could add depth. He is contracted, but its worth asking the question, as he was very unhappy this year at the crows, see; Mitch Mcgovern.

If we could somehow get Betts for Garlett and/or Bugg, i would jump at it.

We do not need Betts by any stretch, just a thought..

So the conversation is whether we would be a better team with Kelly instead of Hogan. The question I ask which player has the potential to win us a final. I feel Hogan could cause more damage than Kelly. That's nothing against Kelly.

Only for the second time in a long time. We’re “lucky” we finally got our house in order and then snaffled Taylor, otherwise we’d still be chasing Byrnes of the footy world.

I think we live in a world were both in same squad is possible. Two first rounders is needed to get him and the only way we get two first rounders this season is if we trade Hogan. However he is out of contract after next season and i think we can find a way to trade ourselves up to two first rounders (without trading Hogan) and go get him. Cap space would be the issue for us really. he's on 800k at GWS and if he continues performing well he'll get offers well over a million. So we would need to find enough cap space to fit in at a minimum someone on a million a year.

Who would you part with to get another first rounder next year?

Who knows really. I've heard rumours about Tyson, Weid, Bugg and Kent all potentially looking at other options.

For me i'd look at trying our best to get 2nd and 3rd rounders for Garlett, Kent and Tyson if they want to go and trade the picks up. If the Weid rumours are true then that's your first round pick right there.

Agan i think it would be tough cap space wise because he is already on 800k and every victorian club will be in for him

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
