Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Losing Jack Viney

Put a sock in it Viney. Said the exact same thing last year.

Put him in cotton wool and just tell him to turn his focus onto day 1 of pre season.

I know this might rub s fee up wrongly, but i would take the co-captain tag off him to just let him focus on his body and see if we can actually nut out 22 games from him.

Make Gawn co-captain along with Jonesy.

Learnt long ago to not trust the injury reports on any Mfc player of significance. Viney being one of them. No chance of returning, and looking forward to the mooted review of our sports science team.

I thought you would say that but my observation is on how he plays.

That I can see and pass judgement on...of course others including yourself and the coach view it differently.

I find him a frustrating player to watch at times as he tries to take on too much when there are better options available.

He does present a strange target to opponents as if to say: 'Tackle me in possession of the ball if you dare!' This takes on too much, too often and loses the team's valuable seconds to move on productively with the ball. His best work is to see ball, get ball and provide an immediate (!) handball or pass to instant effect.

Another year gone because of that foot.

I know some of you are optimistic, but I worry this will ruin his career.

His foot is clearly struggling under the pressure of being an endurance athlete. It's a massive worry!

I hope I'm wrong but does anyone else think JV Career hangs in the balance??

I reckon he is in precarious territory!

I know we have at least one physiotherapist on these fora, but do we have any podiatrists?

Is there something as simple as getting the right footwear and or orthotics?

I see where you are coming from, however the law of averages would suggest that because there were complications last time that it would be very unlucky to have complications twice in a row. Its like playing black jack at the casino and losing multiple hands, possible but not likely.

He is no good in the first few weeks of his returns from injury so l wouldn’t want him playing finals unconditioned and destabilising established midfield roles

Viney said the bye, in between round 23 and the first week of the finals, was an important part of timing his return.

“It will help me. I should be ready to hopefully play the week before that – even if I didn’t have the bye,” he said.

“Having that bye gives me an extra week of topping up fitness and loading my foot again and really getting it pristine for games.”

First week of VFL Finals coincides with the AFL week off.  He could make it back for that and get game minutes.  Viney is exactly who we need come AFL finals.

Very good point.

I think the rules are that if an AFL listed player does not play seniors in rnd 23 theyare eligible to play the first VFL final.  This is a shift from when a min no. of VFL games were needed to be eligibility.

There may be others that miss rnd 23 but need a run and the first VFL final is very handy for us (and for other clubs.)

That first VFL final is also a very good game for players in the running for a seniors berth to help cement a spot for the 1st round of AFL finals (IF we make them...)

I was thinking about this the other day when I was watching Clarry. Has anyone else noticed that our contested ball techniques have changed over the time he's been at the club? One thing Clarry does incredibly well is draw an opposition player in until the last second, and THEN dispose. I dunno if Jack (or anyone else in the midfield) did this all that much previously.

It's a genius thing, as it allows your receiving players more opportunity to assess a situation, and it usually nullifies at least one oppo player who's chosen to commit to a tackle or smother.

It's impossible to fathom the thinking of many posters here.

  • "Viney upsets the balance of the midfield",
  • "Viney's not that good anyway",
  • "Viney will never play again".

He's a bona fide star who won the 2016 B&F at 22.  He makes us better and I am hope he is able to get back for finals as planned.

Or he gets another week of rest and then hits the AFL finals (providing we make it).

Can't really see the need for game minutes this time around. Would rather the security of another week of hard on- track training as opposed to risk factors from VFL finals.

I'm happy to provide an unpopular voice when it comes to Jones and his ability to drag his team across the line.

I do think Jones has grown into a good leader, but I don't think he's a patch on Viney.  Players walk taller when Viney is alongside them.

I have never, repeat never, seen Jones drag his club over the line in an important game. I've seen Selwood and Dangerfield do it countless times.  I've seen Hodge and others.  I've seen Jack Viney with 26 contested possessions will his team over the line against West Coast with some help from McDonald.  Who'll forget Viney ironing out Shannon Hurn late in the game ?

I don't think Jones is inspirational at all.  It's just not his go.

For me, the sooner Viney is the stand alone captain the better.

Once again Jones doesn't stand up.

He's a dumb and limited footballer, and he's certainly a poor onfield leader.

Don't start jumping at shadows or Cliches! Viney gets footy and disposals can sometimes be..not elite!

Lets not make excuses Eh Plenty of teams cover injuries and deficiencies.

Viney aint a "Superstar" but very good player no doubt!

But lets not be defined by Viney's injury!

Good teams cover, Very good teams win "Crunch" games

Great teams win finals and Grand Finals regardless!

We have a LOOOOONG way to go if that's the mentality!

You have absolutely NO FRIGGEN IDEA!

Jones has maximized his ability and lead for a long period of time with very good on field performance!

You Bag him very unfairly

Now tell me Pro Dee what's YOUR claim to leadership in anything!???

My claims to leadership ?  I have a PHD in Leadership my dearest picket.  Send me a pm and I'll link you to my website.

As for Jones ?  In all my time watching him I've never seen him drag us over the line in a game.  Ever.

I think he's been good with his off-field leadership, but he offers nothing from an on-field leadership perspective.  Nothing at all.

So tell me

WHAT MAKES A GREAT LEADER?

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
