Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Losing Jack Viney

Disappointing missed set shot by the captain on Saturday night.

But, I'm sorry to say, he just doesn't convince me that he can produce something special when needed. Nothing inspirational in the way he plays. As soon as Viney is back, Jones can be 'rested'.

If he doesn't get back, next in line for the captaincy should be T Mac as current vc. Next year, of course.

Then we'll be looking at the likes of Gus and Clarrie as the next leaders of our club.

What absolute bullsh*t. Really lowered your colours on this one mate. You don’t just walk into a position of leadership.

You’re right, Vineys over aggression and not so bright bull at a gate play gets in the way, he needs to be smarter not harder.

I've been one of Jack's biggest critics in the past, I reckon he would be so focussed and try to win the game on his own.

This focus had him getting in a teammates way, unrealistically trying to break tackles and not giving the ball off to others in much better positions.

However, it's a pity the injury flared up when it did as I believe he was just starting to work a more team oriented game with the other boys. They were just stating to gel...when Jack works with the others we will be a much better team and he a much better player.

I definitely agree with that, he was starting to let go of that over aggression and gel, good pickup

But yet you missed Jones critical goal against the cats? Or him reving the boys up at 3 qtr time before the coaches addressed the players? Pfft.. The Jones bashing is getting beyound the joke now!

Sorry but Jones is still our number 1 leader, and you'll be a disappointed man when hes named captain next year.

I'm happy to provide an unpopular voice when it comes to Jones and his ability to drag his team across the line.

I do think Jones has grown into a good leader, but I don't think he's a patch on Viney.  Players walk taller when Viney is alongside them.

I have never, repeat never, seen Jones drag his club over the line in an important game. I've seen Selwood and Dangerfield do it countless times.  I've seen Hodge and others.  I've seen Jack Viney with 26 contested possessions will his team over the line against West Coast with some help from McDonald.  Who'll forget Viney ironing out Shannon Hurn late in the game ?

I don't think Jones is inspirational at all.  It's just not his go.

For me, the sooner Viney is the stand alone captain the better.

In one way I agree.  I just dont think Jones has the talent of a selwood or a dangerfield so in my opinion he shouldnt be compared to them.  Its a different sort of inspiration he brings. He stood tall pyschologically when the club was falling backwards . He held a light up to the young players showing by example how to prepare your body and all the extras needed to get the most out of yourself. I dont know as Im not around the club but I imagine that when Jones talks standards players listen. THAT type of leadership is what has improved this club and in part what will help drive the Brayshaws, olivers and Petraccas etc to be elite ...let them "drag the team over the line" now

Jones may not dominate games like he did, or  like Selwood or Danger have,  " drag the team over the line" with individual brilliance. But,  as a player that has got the absolute maximum out of himself,  became a a battering ram to protect the younger bodies coming through,  and driven others around him to reach their potentials , then he IS elite. I,  for one, feel is one of the best leaders we've ever had.

Yup. The Darwin game - JV took a mini step back and played a perfect complementary role, the same way Jones has when Jack is in the team. Was just starting to get the balance right.

I disagree based on how viney handled his injury last year and this year. He lacks emotional intelligence to understand true leadership. But this will come with maturity i hope.

The next captain is a tricky one for the club in off season and a test for goodwin. (And todd)

They're also better players than Jones is, but I don't even think you need to be the best player at your Club to be the best Captain.

I think he's inspirational but in a different way. It won't be any one moment like a bump or miraculous gather but he's the epitome of giving your all for the entirety of game and the players do see that. Regardless of the score he just keeps on going, it may not be glamorous or a memorable inspiration act but its still leadership.

I'm now getting posters tell me some of the things he does, as though this is some sort of revelation to me.  It's not.

Jones is a great and loyal servant.  He was a godsend when everything about him was crumbling.  We've been lucky to have him lead us from the abyss.

But I don't think he's ever been a great on-field captain.

I've never ever seen him directly influence the result of a game in a particularly tangible way.

Viney will be a far better on-field captain.  Chalk and cheese.

Another year as co-captains would be fine.  And most definitely the last.

What’s Nathan jones on field role going forward? Because for me he’s now forth in line for the midfield assuming guys like Salem and petracca don’t improve which I think both will. Is he a full Time wing/half back? Could he play forward and rotate through. Bit like Tyson I see him as too one dimensional and the real strength of guys like Oliver and brayshaw is they have the speed to play other postions.

I agree with Prodee that at some point it would be good for Viney to take over as soul captain.

I can't see it happening while Jones is still wearing the red and blue. I just can't see the MFC have Jones play without the captancy role. As lame as it sounds they I think they will honor his efforts during the dark times and have him retire a captain of the club.

It will be very interesting to see where Jones fits in next season. If we recruit another midfielder and Dom retains his spot (to much dismay of many on demonland) then he won't be able to see the same amount of midfield time he's had this year and it's unclear of whether he can hold down a spot across half back or forward. It will be awkward if he comes in and out of the seniors next year while still holding the vice captaincy.

As a side note I think Viney is below average in terms of media and articulating himself. Hopefully this is something he can improve. Jones certainly isn't as strong as Mcdonald and Lewis in front of the media but he gets his point across well most of the time without the stumbling or nerves that Jack shows. Of course this should be of low priority when picking a captain but it does help when supporters/media/general public can gain a good understanding of a club and playing group through its captain and leader

May be...he's got a lot of growing up to do yet.

Hopefully the time out will help him mature but I don't think he's ready yet and believe he was given the role too early.

Jack needs to learn to take the team with him, currently he tries to do it on his own.

There were some good signs in his last game but I would like to see a larger sample of his work before I'm convinced he has turned the corner.

His total uncompromising focus is his strength but also his weakness.

Another year gone because of that foot.

I know some of you are optimistic, but I worry this will ruin his career.

His foot is clearly struggling under the pressure of being an endurance athlete. It's a massive worry!

While it's sad, he is coverable, he's no superstar. The only thing we can't replace is his will to win. I'm not too concerned with losing Viney and it shouldn't hinder our chances too much. Hibberd and Melksham is of more concern to our structure IMO.

He's our best leader and equal best clearance winner along with Oliver. You want to keep playing Tyson?

He is a massive loss. We are a far better team when he plays.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
