Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

King: Oliver can be Dee's Dusty

These types comparisons/hypotheses get thrown up so frequently to players without much sample size. It's great click bate!

That being said Oliver was a terrific mark at jnr level and while I certainly want him spending most of his time in the midfield I do prefer the swap with Petracca from mid to forward then I did with Trac/Hogan. It gives the midfield more balance and seems to allow better cohesion in the midfield with who is winning the ball at ground level and who is playing the outside mid role.

Gotta say King makes a pretty solid case. He’s always been shifted forward towards the end of the game or once the result has been determined. I could be mistaken but I can’t recall it happening when trying to build an early lead.. It would be a brave move on Goodwin’s part to play him forward in the percentages King is talking about.

There are some nice lines in that article btw, including turning the goal square into “Red’s square”, but I think my favourite would have to be “..it’s just impossible to stop Clayton winning the football”.

I’d say Clayton Oliver can be our Clayton Oliver. All players are unique, especially when you’re talking about the best llayers, so I don’t really understand why there’s this need for the footy media to draw parallels all the time. There’s only one Clayton Oliver and there’s only one Dustin Martin.

That said, King makes some compelling arguments. Clarry said in the MFC podcast that he thinks he’ll be rotating more with Petracca between half forward and the midfield. It’s a salivating prospect if they can get to the point where they’re both fully firing.

In the main ( very much so ) I fully concur. There's a bit of temptation though to do as outlined and have him in the square ( possibly resting as opposed off the field )

It's not without merit imho.

Hahaha, I’d forgotten about that. That song is so cringeworthily 90s. Have to admit I watched all the way to the end though. Goosebumps at the kick that got them in to the 96 grand final.

I did chortle at the “phone booth brutality” that our mids bring.

Putting the comparisons with Dusty aside I would like to see Clarry spending some time "resting" in the forward line providing it does not negatively impact the output/productivity of our midfield.

Is cloning a thing yet?

Having him rest fwd also upsets the oppos apple cart regards rotation etc (possibly )

We are blessed in a matter of speaking that he has this special talent in winning the ball frequently. However we expect it and some of our young  talent can take a leaf out of his book and better themselves as well.

This article is quite wrong!

what King should be saying is “if player X from club X works really hard, then in time he may/ could possibly be club X’s Clayton Oliver.”

David King is spot on.   Oliver  the total package.. he is a great overhead mark, great kick and he knows where the goals are. His football brain is off the charts.  He hasn't had a chance to show it all at once as he spends so much time at the coalface feeding the ball out to his teammates.

. The final product will be something special, even more special than it already is.

I love the idea of Clarry spending more time forward.  He seems so self assured and confident in his own ability.  Cool under pressure and keeps things simple. (I can't imagine that he would ever get the goalkicking 'yips' a la Tracc, for example).  Just a very good young footballer, who has 'future champion' written all over him.  The sort who will win us matches off his own boot one day.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
