Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Crows would need to win 6 of their last 7 , or maybe all 7, just to make the bottom half of the 8. Thats if they recover their % too.

Most likely they're done.

yes....         i think we can say they are done for the year

Richmond are scarily awesome. How can a side rise from absolute shite to this good so quickly? Same coach - I can't bear his smugness these days, much preferred his grumpy thuggish side because at least he was true to himself. And, more or less, the same team. They simply play amazing football.

PS: No, I'll never forgive what Hardwick and Wallis did to 19 year old Green in the 200 Grand Final.

They have not risen from shite so quickly. They were building for several years but it has all come together over the past 12m

Also, anyone saying leg speed isn’t important only needs to watch Richmond to see they’re wrong. It’s all teams can apply pressure, but Richmond’s leg speed across the whole ground is the defining trait that sets them apart from other teams.

Spot on LT ... they play total football,  are highly skilled and they are quick.  Really quick.

Nothing beats absolute speed combined with top level skills ... unless you can match them with the same.  We matched them for about 3 quarters but that was it.

They are the current benchmark but their transformation to that level is still a head-scratcher.  They are not supposed to be this good ?

We also need to win 6 of our last 8 now just to make the bottom half of the 8. If we lose tomorrow, we're pretty much done.

I think 5 with our percentage should be enough.

Still, for us to get those 5 requires us to beat at least two of Geelong (away), Adelaide (away), West Coast (away), Sydney and GWS.

And that assumes we beat Fremantle and the Dogs in the next two weeks. Drop either of those and we have to find a third win from the five games above.

Interesting, mate. Didn't realise Cerra was a Vic boy. I thought him Western Australian. But a former pick 5. How would we get him?

Up by over 50 points.

They haven't lost at the MCG in over a year now. They've also reached the longest winning streak at the MCG set by the Demons in the 50s.

They are truly awesome. I wish I could enjoy watching us play at the MCG like this!

They're very well drilled, but their game style is frustratingly simple. If you have enough players on your list who can replicate the speed they have, their style would be very easy to mirror IMO. Front and centres at every contest, speed on the ground, pressure the clearance etc. It's really pretty basic stuff.

And yet no one has been able to beat them in over a year on the only ground that matters!

It will be good to see how we perform tomorrow with an injection of speed in Garlett, Frost and Spargo. I’m tipping we’ll put in a far better performance than the past month.

They are highly motivated and that motivation is not dissipating in a hurry ... and that's difficult to replicate.  Frustratingly simple as well AF but again,  not easy to simply copy.

They are doing what every supporter group wants from their team.  Hardwick has gone from being on the nose to the next in-demand type coach.

Wouldn't be easy because he's got all the tools to be a gun.

His decision making and skill is very good for a first year player. Would compliment our inside grunt and sometimes you have to give good to get good. The footy department would need to make a bold and tough decision.

Do we back ourselves with enough inside strength on our list to consider Brayshaw for Cerra.

Really hard call given Gus's improvement after stringing games together but Cerra has him well covered for disposal and decision making

If it meant giving up Gus, I'd go conservative and not try for Cerra.

Being old and sad, I still watch whatever free to air games are on and I can tell you that you are only missing more examples of umpiring that cause me to tear out my few remaining hairs.  And the game gets uglier week by week.  I won't comment on the commentators......

Actually I forgot about the commentators.  They are awful. The in house jokes and toeing the party line is just palpable. Bruce who I like as a person, can drive you to distraction with his sickly sweet fawning and love for certain players. Dwayne who calls every simple thing done on the field as a miraculous event. A standard goal is remarkable, a nice mark is unbelievable etc etc.

The game has become a scrum and I don't like rugby.

I can understand why TV ratings are dropping for footy, it is because it is not the game it was.

speed is the best weapon in the modern game, even more so than kicking efficiency. disgusting by our recruiters to draft such slow players.

And, pray tell, who are these 'fast' players we should have drafted instead?  Please provide examples.

Agreed and the only way to try and help get back to positional football* is to scrub the interchange ... Rugby League are talking about bringing their interchange numbers down from 8 per team per game to 4 or 6.

We have 90 and that high number is ruining the sport as a spectacle - the contest is obviously still there but the aesthetics are often ugly.

I've largely switched off and I know a stack of people who are doing the same - they will watch their own team play and that is about it.  And that is not a healthy situation.

The other issue is the mindless possessions which leads to far too much uncontested footy ... whatever happened to the rule where a player had to kick over their mark?  I asked that question here about 7 or 8 years ago.

I don't mind rugby as a sport but I don't need another version of it ... footy is as its best when it is totally unique from other sports

We need long kicking and the high mark back as a staple.  Otherwise the sport is just a hybrid version of other sports.  And those elements can return if we simply follow the rules of the game.  With constant rest,  there are now too many players that are able to play on the ball all day.

Wills & Harrison never had 'rotations' as an option.

Bring the interchange numbers down to 10 per team per game.

*By default,  positional football would alleviate congestion as a matter of course.  We saw how it all worked before the explosion of rotation numbers.

Any inside knowledge on whether or not we’ve spoken to him? I’ve heard he’s refused to re-sign on past next season. He’d be an awesome get.

While I'd happily take a look at Cerra, I think it sucks a bit for Freo that there are already whispers of him wanting to come back to Victoria before he's even completed a season over there.  I think draftees should sign a minimum 3 year contract and be made to stick it out over that period, as Freo will have wasted a high pick and development time on someone who already wants out.

Carlton will tank today and be 2 games clear to get pick 1 in the draft.

Years after we got raked over the coals for alleged tanking and they weren't even looked at despite  obvious tanking , they continue to do the same thing.

And as for the ratings drop (14%) ... it's the millennials that should be concerning the AFL.  The oldies will stick pat as they are rusted on.  Millennials have a much broader range of interests in numerous other sports and aren't necessarily as rusted on.   AFLX anyone?

AFL needs to be bullet-proof and needs to be the first choice of sports ... the sport isn't big enough to thrive & survive without a very large proportion of neutrals.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
