Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 15

What an absolute disgrace.

Mistakes made at selection - Petty clearly not ready for AFL, no crumber, too many talls/marking forwards.

We carry too many players who routinely underperform when we're losing: ANB, Harmes and Hannan are the biggest culprits.

Our gameplan has been worked out. Opponents drop a number (or two) behind the ball. Our forward line becomes clogged. We win plenty of it in the middle but we continually turn it over at half-forward because we're outnumbered and there's no plan. We then can't spread fast enough on wide grounds like the G and we get exposed out the back. It's all too common and all too predictable, but Goodwin's stubbornness hasn't worked out how to fix it.

We can't keep having massive inside 50 counts but failing to score and then conceding goals and scores from every second opponent entry. It's not a sustainable way of playing.

Two points. If not for Oliver's consistent application EVERY week (and he's only got a handful of mates), we would have been pumped at the clearances. Secondly, if we make finals, and we won't I suspect, it would be immeasurably damaging, and given how brittle we are, a disaster.

I don't think we're going to win enough games to make the finals, but if we do, then we will have beaten Geelong in Geelong, Adelaide in Adelaide, West Coast in Perth or Sydney. To do that, we're going to have to have improved, quite a bit on where we are now.

Goodwin said in his presser we need to evolve to become a defensive team......isn't that what Roos did? Built our defence? Now he's saying we need to go back and do it? WTF?

If he said that he should quit. If he doesn't recognize that the structures, game plan and selection lost it today, with some big help from the umpires, then he is not an AFL standard Coach.

Agree entirely.

If supporters like you and me and so many others on DL can see it, why can't the guys paid to do the job?

So we need 4 more wins and to avoid any smashings.

That means we have to beat one of Sydney, Adelaide, Geelong, West Coast or GWS to make finals.

I wish I had your optimism, but given we have yet to beat a team who is around our mark on the ladder, I just can’t see it happening, especially with 4 road trips. But I hope I am wrong!

I get why you think that way, but none of those teams concern me if we can sort out some structures and ball moment.

It’s all been said but I have to vent to release some of this anger.

Playing Jack Viney as a tagger is one of the worst coaching decisions I have ever seen.

Tyson should never play for the MFC again.

I wish Harmes would just play team first football instead of trying to do the heroic/spectacular every time he goes near the footy.

ANB? Not a footballers ahole. Never has been. Never will be.

I feel sorry for Harry Petty. Thrown in on spec. Not his fault. Will come good I’m sure.

Frost has clearly murdered Goody’s cat.

I harbour serious doubts about “The Weed’s” progression to senior football.

Our coach (and Petracca) needs to start getting angry.

Nor me, but with every loss in which we are beaten the precise same way, I lose more and more hope that we're ever going to "sort out some structures and ball movement".

But that is just the point ProDee, they are not sorting it out, despite several games where they have seen their failings.

A couple of small changes today,  would have seen us reverse the 2 point loss, to a team that had won only two games before today.

"None of those teams concern me". You're joking, I presume. If not, what exactly about our season has given you the idea we can beat these teams? I'm serious, as there's just no evidence, and an injury decimated Adelaide in Alice doesn't count.

Agree - at the moment we have to absolutely dominate the midfield to have a chance of winning against decent opposition (and even with such domination we can still lose like last week).

I would've actually taken the Saints scoring from every second entry - they went at 58%! I looked back at their games before GC and they were generally at about 33-39% for scores per inside 50. 58% today!

In most games at the G in the last two years we've been too easy to score against. The opposition break from our forward 50 and just carry the ball uncontested into their forward line and score. There is a flaw in our system or personnel at the G. We don't need to change our whole style but we do need to make some adjustments in either the system or personnel playing the system - when a side like St Kilda can do what they did today you know there are problems.

I know this dangerous and lopsided after a seriously disappointing loss. But i’d be interested to hear people’s thoughts. Which individuals on our developing list have improved this year? Other than those who were injured last year and our recruits. I’m struggling to come up with more than three and they all came off a very low base. ANB, OMac and Harmes.

Over the course of the whole year... I’d say this has been the best season we’ve seen from:

Hogan

Gawn

McDonald

Oliver

OMac

Salem

Brayshaw

I have had faith for the last 54 years and support for the last 66, how long for you?

Seriously though, why have faith they will make changes, when there is no evidence of change to base it on, despite the problems being evident for most of the year.

I just came home from that embarassement.

No doubt bad umpiring cost us that game. At least three goals were incorrect free kicks.

However, we played dreadful. Poor kicking, tackling, couldn’t keep it on our half.

Only real shining light was Gawn, who played his heart out. Never stopped trying. Great game son.

St Kilda fans were as feral as usual. Was called a “dumb b**ch” because I suggested umps were favouring the saints.

New here... but after today feel i need to get involved!

Agree with above (except Frost...)

Sam Weids is lacking polish in every aspect of the game

We're lacking FWD structure and play him as a bomb in target makes no sense at all

Don't know anything about Petty but suspect an experiment on a "should win" game...

Joel Smith missed a contest at half back also that was run the length for a goal

CJPeds is such a better option for contested ball and is continually left out to blood new "talent"... annoys me

Jeffy would be more effective around goals than ANB & Hannan put together. Time to get him back in.

But he had chances this year, and wasn't. He's just not the answer, no matter how much u wish it.

I would say at least 3 goals. the 50 at the end of the second quarter was the killer.

I'd day more than that.

The Lewis free was rubbish.  The free that led to the 50 against Oliver was rubbish.

The 50 against Melksham was rubbish.

The 50 against Tyson and Viney for entering the protected zone was there.

That's 4.

Plus they got goals from two players handballing to runners on the F50 because we were asleep.

I've probably missed something.  Everything that could go wrong did.

Coaching, selection, players.

This club just depresses me, just seem to find a way to implode, footy is a confidence game and you can't carry players out of form. Hard to fathom tagging players in a team with two wins. Viney is one of very few players who can control a game and win a game from pure desire and grunt, and he spends the half tagging.

If fritsch has half a brain he will pull the eject button to another club

along with Gawn, oliver

positive from today - no more apologists for Goodwin and other hangers on by papering over issues with some flat track wins

and hopefully no more BS media from petracca

just put up or shut up

Do I need to list their horrible losses ?

Again ?

There are no great sides.

BUT, clearly, we need to sort out our systems,  which were dire today.

I'll leave you to your version of the season and you can leave me to mine.

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
