Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The Need for Outside Midfielders

We do need more endurance Wtm... BUT we NEED pace much much more.

We have too many one paced types throughout... we need 2 or 3, quicker than one paced players, in our 22.

Gaff as another endurance player, is way too expensive, just for the elite endurance.

I would clearly have DeGoey ahead of a Gaff.

We don't need the fastest and 2nd fastest players in the comp.... but we do need a few quick players, that have breakaway tow. more than anything else.

And I do not subscribe to one dimensional quick's, like jeffy.

They MUST be able to roll up the sleeves and dive under packs with a smile,,, as well as be a goer on the outside, when they're in that position.

Completely different players.

De Goey is an inside mid, is not a free agent and we don't have anything to trade for him so it's not happening.

We should have been in the market for Devon Smith last year.

Of course they are, watts your point.

DeGoey is a Mid and H/Fwrd with speed and X factor.   Even if re-contracted he is the type we're lacking.

Gaff is a distance runner who finds space and time, which allows him to be able to kick.  But he won't find that same space as often, in big finals games.

DeGoey doesn't require much time or space to be damaging.   This is why he is more dynamic.

Fritsch has real talent and is worth a try, Hannan has been raised as an option too, he’s out of form up forward and seems to be flying rather than crumbing - the opposite of Hogan in recent times, Hannan has pace, a good tank and can deliver so also worth thinking about.

Strongly agree with this for Fritsch - who must be developed at this point as an outside mid, for Hannan who is great at the crumbs and has most pre-requisites; both need to be developed according to their roles and this should be the focus of the FD in such development. At the moment, and in past weeks, both are playing multiple roles a gap-fillers all on a hope and a prayer. Moving Hogan from deep forward during a game has created such a gap.

Again, I have no idea what DeGoey has to do with a thread about outside mids. He is not one.

I'm not disputing he is a good player, I have preferred him to Brayshaw since their first seasons and rate him highly.

You clearly haven't seen Gaff play in finals or this season in particular if these are your thoughts.

Well if you're after De Goey he just re-signed there so feel free to change into the black and white.

I'll happily hold onto Brayshaw. He's not quick but he runs all day. He had an average game on the weekend. But he uses the ball well and generally makes the right decision. Kid is 22 and the game has already slowed down for him. He has time and space with ball in hand and doesn't panic when tackled. I think he is a future Pendlebury type.

Yeah why are we talking about De Goey? He's not an outside mid. He's more an inside mid/forward. We're currently developing one of those, his name is Christian Petracca and its taking a bit more time but he clearly has the tools to be a De Goey type. He is our X factor along with Viney.

You outlined Gaff's strengths perfectly which I agree with and is exactly what we need!

but I disagree that he hasn't performed well in finals. Wait he did have an average game against Carlton during his first season in 2011.....

they didn't look slow because the game was played at etihad which has smaller dimensions and relies less on hard running

Yes l agree with you there, However they won those games although the opposition looked slow. Is that the way it works? So if we win on the G next time we play is it because we are not slow anymore?  Let's wait and see how we go at the G against Bulldogs, G Coast, SYD and GWS. and and get a better idea. There are a whole  lot of reasons why we are not playing well.  A win will help.

Whats above the shoulder is where the confidence comes from.

if I was looking for an outside mid Aaron Hall would be near the top of my list - sure he may have a few issues but by all accounts not happy and or overly welcome at GC could come cheep compared to Gaff. Has elite kicking skills and goals sence , i dont give a crap if he dosnt tackle as we have inside mids in spades. GC will be looking for anybody to get up there so id be packaging up Tyson , Kennedy Harris , Bugg

This concerns me. They are busting their gut in close with bash and crash but it must be sapping their confidence from all the effort and no results, lets hope we don't capitulate from here.

Tmac struggled and hardly touched the ball bruised lung of course you know all that and very tentative. J Smith  and Petty  just not up to It at the minute. How can you not look slow and out of sorts when you are struggling with hand and foot? The last 2 I mention didn't bust their gut. I agree with you lets hope we don't capitulate

Gaff just doesn't excite me.

Tell me there's others out there we're enquiring about

Apparently Richmond are getting Lynch. Holy [censored] they'll be good then

That’s one way to stop being injury prone. They have a magic formula over there keeping gun players fit.

Scary though, if it happens.

Finals since 2015 - 24, 20, 34, 35, 34 and 25 touches. Seems to find it alright.

Yep I know you have that opinion of Gaff, but who else would you choose if not him? Mahoney says we have enough room for 1 maybe 2 stars. Vince may retire and free some up and potentially Lewis and Jones next year.

SFebey I can’t divulge who it is quite yet, but if you are like me you are going to be massively underwhelmed when I can tell you the midfielder with whom we have an “in principle” agreement with for 4 years on pretty big coin.  His Club are aware and are comfortable with him moving on as they will need the Draft Pick in the range of 15 to work into a couple of Trades that they are aggressively pursuing.

As much as I’d love to get the feedback, I just can’t give you the name yet.

Mate, he was under our nose at Casey. Isn’t he a Beaconsfield boy?  FCS, even the Dees couldn’t stuff that one up.

Don't need rejects like Hall go through the draft and go for Gaff with everything we have. Simples.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
