Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Can We Save Our Season?

Our season needs to get back on track (which given our next 3 games i think it should - but we'd still be no closer to knowing if we can play well against the better teams), but it is not at the point where it needs saving.

If we beat the Saints, Freo, Dogs, Suns and get a win against one or two of Geelong, Swans, Crows (we play AO quite well) and Giants, then we should make the 8. It just depends on where this playing group wants to land in the 8.

All is not lost, still plenty of footy yet to be played.

That would’ve set us up for a serious assault, but they don’t want it.

You're exactly right. After Geelong and Port Gawn has said things like 'we would have lost that by a lot more in the past so it's good that we didn't get blown away' and 'I don't think we disgraced ourselves'. They're happy just not being a basket case. The pre-season dribble about how much last year hurt and would drive us this year was just hot air.

Selection a major factor in the Cats and Power losses.

3- smart footy. Not just aimless bombs or kick to the pockets. Petraccas IQ to lift

Would've liked to have seen more shots from 50-60 on the run by Melksham, Brayshaw, Jones once we had got wind of their tactic of flooding defence. Sometimes i think players are not sensing the occasion intuitively, but sticking too rigidly to a tactic.

Nothing that hasn't been said before.

Stop bombing.

Vince and Lewis don't work, need Hunt

Too small down back, need Petty.

Need an opportunist forward, need Garlett

Petracca has to lift.

Any others? Thoughts?

Like ive said many times on this forum we play dumb footy. For a team that wins so much ball our entry into 50 is that of a bottom 4 side.

We do not play and can't play when conditions are slippery, we are a dry track team. All our losses this year bar the Geelong game have been in Wet slippery conditions( Haw, Rich, Coll, Port).

Our Forward line is a mess at the minute, its just so dysfunctional. How Jeffy is not play has got me stumped, Without Tmac i dont know where we would be.

We are passenger city atm Petracca, Hogan, ANB, Lewis, Vince, Harmes. I hope the penny drops soon.

Weid kicked 7 in apparently greasy conditions. Yes, against Coburg, but still. Clean is clean.

Starting to agree with these sentiments. The major problem we have at present is that our bottom 6-8 players just are not at the required level for us to become a top 4 side. And replacing them with others of the same standard will not solve the problem. Thats why the likes of Richmond, Sydney and Geelong, and possibly Collingwood, are where they are. Maybe we need to roll the dice and try some unknowns, such as Petty and Baker. I think we have over rated our list.

I think you are confusing "want" with "don't have the ability" SF.

We don't yet have a list good enough to challenge the top six sides.

Thats where the frustration is though OD, last year we beat top of the ladder Adel in SA, WCE in Perth and took it up to Richmond and would have won if not for injuries......but this year, we are not even close, so the question is, have we actually gone backwards?

Spot on bobby I think it is a little better at our bottom 4-5 however same problem and yes it is definitely over rated. Petracca is a good example not enough stamina at this point to be a top 100 player.

On reflection beating WCE was no big deal they only made the eight because of our inabilities in the last week and Adelaide have since shown they are average. I don't think we have improved against the better teams, we need to beat Geelong in a few weeks time any thing less and you can book holidays in September.

Man if we could knock off Radelaide and at least one of Sydney and Geelong I would be so stoked and it would be a sign of progress (notwithstanding we should have beaten GFC this year and I hope the players' fines committee fined Max the 3 first shouts at mad Monday because that miss was unforgiveable)

im very nervous about freo too

Problem is if we lose one of those first 4 u mentioned.

We havent improved a great ammount. At least our % is good. 12 wins again may suffice.

Eighth or if we are lucky seventh, I thought at the end of Feb this year that is what our talent level would supply And I have seen nothing against the better sides to suggest otherwise of the teams in the eight we have beaten one I.e. North who are eighth. We are just not good enough in 2018.

We have to stop this mindset of oh we have these high draft picks or exciting players in the VFL who need to come into the side because X y and z player is doing badly.

Roos and Goodwin have the mindset that a player should never be played in til their ready, until they can handle it. Grimes, Trengove and Watts were ruined by being thrust forward to young as saviours of the club. 1 players doesn't make a better team.

Goodwin is managing our players, it may seem frustrating when our favourites are in the VFL, but they are there for a reason, they will get games in when the time is right.

[censored] teams play high draft pick high talent players too early, good team develop them until they're ready for Afl level footy. Alot of the vfl draft talent are sheltered and play in an environment completely different to AFL and when played too early they can't handle it.

I would highly suggest more posters read Paul Roos' book Here it is. Would give Alot of us a massive eye opening and make us all a bit more patient.

Spot on Bdf.

Not just Roosy, 'Bdf'...  Barassi, Jordan, the Hawks under Alan Jeans also.  Many reserve players at Hawthorn played more than 100 games in the reserves, before they started their AFL careers.

Impatience is a killer of footy clubs, and of players careers:..  whether it be playing too much to young...  or playing them too soon after injuries....  and not resting them when injured....

Balls in the Dees court, I’m looking forward to see how we go

It’s not broken and is fixable

1. Hogan & Petracca to stay forward, no more midfield time.

2. Maybe get Fritsch & Salem as the outside receivers, a bit of class disposal into the forward 50

3. Vince & Lewis are a worry off half back need a bit of leg speed, probably keep Lewis, and get Frost for some height & speed on the other.

4. Get Garlett in, will never dominate at Casey, we need forward pressure and a bit of magic, he only needs 10-12 possies to be dangerous.

5. Hopefully Hunt can get some mojo back after his injury

We’re having a crack, the midfield are competitive beasts, l really think we are still up to our necks in it

What do we all think? Am l dreaming?

5- attacking footy is on the menu

Wish list

1- a second big defender Petty or Frost

2- Gartlett needed and hopefully we get 100% effort

3- smart footy. Not just aimless bombs or kick to the pockets. Petraccas IQ to lift

4- Pace and pace. We need more to break up defensive structures

5- a healthy run ahead ... Lever was a big loss

Great post

An interesting question. Did we win any matches by 108 and 91 last year. Did we beat ALL the bottom 8 teams we were expected to?

to be fair, apart from Max's inexcusable miss and the umpires literally stealing the game from us because corruption, I think we're tracking ok apart from the hawthorn and pies games. (Both inexcusable)

He's a dill for saying we should have come out harder against the Pies? (Hello r23 17)

and for saying maybe we could have found a way to stop hawthorn kicking a billion goals in a. Row unchallenged ? I think they're valid points?

but I'm not a footy expert (I think I've made that obvious)

No, we lost round 23 last year, missed finals and we should never have let them beat us. We had won 6 in a row, had a shot at second spot and we weren’t switched on from the first bounce. We should have beaten them and we should never have allowed them to beat us after last year.

Passionate I might be, a dill I am not. No [censored] they killed us, captain obvious

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
