Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Yep 100%. It makes missing finals even more unbearable knowing Collingwood is there.

Who do we have to beat to make the top 4 again??? ?

@Rod Grinter Riot Squad Still with me on the idealism despite all evidence to the contrary?

We beat WCE.
Port d Coll
GWS d Syd
Syd d Haw

GWS locked in 3rd with Coll/Haw falling out of the 4

Melb d Greater Resting Giants

It will require us again tip teams who are on our hammer and could knock us out of the 8 if we lose to WCE. Apologies to @SaberFang for more naive idealism! :)

Does anyone know the highest percentage of any team not to play finals?

StKilda in 2012 with 123% - I looked it up after the Hawthorn/Collingwood games as I knew with our run home, it was looming.

A thread was created on reddit a few days ago as the possibility has finally dawned on the entire competition.

Nothing would be more Melbourne than, after missing finals last year by the narrowest margin in the history of the competition, missing finals this year with the biggest margin in the history of the competition.

I mean you just can't write this [censored].

How have they not made a TV movie special on us yet, I will never know.

Any way to get finals experience into Oliver, Brayshaw, Gawn etc is worth while no matter how it plays out. And based on narrow losses recently to Port and Cats I am a believer that  a first final in Melbourne from 8th is winnable ( if Viney is back would help ).

In the absence of a home game this weekend I WILL be attending the Pies/Port game and I WILL be cheering the home team - and closely monitoring Jack Watts efforts just for interest.

It is quite simple rally. We have to win 1 of the next 2 or we won't be playing finals.

Port play the filth and essenscum.  If the druggies lose to richmond then they won't be up to much for the last game. The filth are on the verge of collapsing but Buckley does do a great job in keeping them up. Port could win that as well but doubt it.

North will probably win their last 2 games. Adelaide won't be up for it this weekend and the saints are just stuffed.

Geelong will win both their remaining games  One of them by a lot.

I predicted 14 wins for the season so will stick with it until it's over. Silly me.

This article caught my eye:

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/cotchin-astbury-set-to-miss-bombers-clash-20180816-p4zxt1.html

Cotchin, Astbury and Prestia rested.  Butler and Lambert had ankle surgery and expected to be available for first final.  The pre-finals bye hasn't stopped teams resting players (just as Adelaide did in rnd 23 last year).  I guess that is the luxury of having top spot sewn up.

Bombers will like their chances of a win vs Rich this week.  If they win it will be a real show down with Port in their rnd 23 game.

It is imperative we win a game and hopefully vs WCE this week.

I am trying to work out why North are not given much of a chance of making the 8. I think they will win their next 2 games and if we drop both ours they will make it. I just hope we can win one.

I picked North for the spoon as I did the druggies last year and they made the 8. Hope their is no curse on my predictions. ( I am often wrong anyway )

People probably assumed that Port or us would win 1. If North knock off Adelaide, they are a huge chance. They might pip Port on % if port beat Essendon.

Can anyone remember how the swap over occurs in the finals?

The winner of 5 v 8 plays loser of ?

The winner of 6 v 7 plays loser ?

Is there a real potential to play

week 1 Geelong

week 2 Pies

week Hawks/Tigers

So many spots can still change we won't know until our GWS game next Sunday.  (We won't need to wait till the last game as neither North nor Saints can make finals?).

This is how I think it'll end up.

If we win and Collingwood choke against freo (highly unlikely considering how they performed on the weekend) then we sneak into 4th.

A hypothetical.....

We beat Giants next week and the Hawks beat the Swans.

If we were to beat Geelong and the Pies beat WCE in Perth. We could potentially play all our finals at the G if we we’re good enough to progress through.

I think the Pies will have the higher %. They play Freo while Hawks play the Swans.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
