Post Match Discussion - Round 14

How do the match committee think we can play with 1 tall defender? Against probably the tallest forward line in the comp?

Please bring in Petty and give the kid a crack! He can play second tall and Smith 3rd.

Garlett needs to come in for Tyson. He's completely lost it.

Their talls kicked 3 goals. Did you watch the game or wrote your own narrative yesterday?

I said he wasn't the only offender didn't I?  Pull your head out of your apologist hole.

I couldn't give a rats **** who else you think offended, you just made an objectively irrational and idiotic judgement.

Time surely to “rest” those who won’t be there when and if we are actually challengers eg the likes of Tyson, Vince, and get ourselves a decent forward coach.

I realise that delivery to I 50 is haphazard but double the opportunities and losing is totally unacceptable.

Give Balic a run, or bring back Spartacus - we had no crumbers.

Need another tall defender - Petty needs to be tested.

I quite like Smith but I just don't think he has the fitness to play consistently at this level.

He’s an honest trier but he’s a stop gap. We should play Weed for the rest of the year. We get as much out of him and he’s got a ton more upside

Umpires won that game - Port playing for frees too.

We shouldve won that. Hogan needs to stop crashing packs to get goals though it's not working.

Easily win 5 of our next 9 games to still play finals. Could go 6 wins if GWS play [censored] with injuries, 7 if West coast are without Darling and Kennedy again.

It's like the first few weeks when Lever wasn't gelling, we still haven't worked out a way to replace him.

We are mentally soft. That game should never have been lost. We were a better side but still got rolled.

As I said FD, he had a rough night.  I didn't say he was blameless.  Just saying that he was also not helped by the ball coming inside 50.

Of course not the only one. My concern is he is so important to our structure, and we need him clunking those 2 or 3 big marks a game. But he seems to be skirting packs like he is 5 foot 9 and 70kgs. He needs a bit of a reset I think.

Gutless comentators won't acknowledge or even discuss the roll that a number of shocking free kicks effectively cost us the game tonight:

Non mark to Wingard;

Crazy Melksham free kick against;

Mark to us that was twice the mark of Wingards in the last;

They would have got multiple goals from frees, I don't remember one to us.

We didn't play our best game tonight, but in the circumstances, I thought we fought hard:

O Mac against half a dozen other talls;

Jetta - say no more;

Tommy gets absolutely polaxed (Port would have go a free for that);

Viney;

Melk (was absolutely molested after half/ 3/4 time and got got complety shafted)

Harms, Jones, Freitch, Hannan, Lewis

Ugly game, we battled hard, so pissssed not to have come away with a win tonight.

So [censored] [censored]!

Really soft last qtr from most players.

It's actually phenomenal that we were still in the game in the last given the absolute insipid and amatuerish performance of a large number of players. Hogan, petracca, Oscar, ANB, Harmes, both Smith's, Tyson Harmes all completely ineffectual. A few others not far behind.

Hogan was deplorable and reverted to his sulkish worst. I'd drop him off that game he was so bad. Same goes for petracca, he's had enough chances he's actually soft.

Oscar was horrible horrible tonight. Those 50s were very clumsy.

Wake up to yourself you winging Nancy boy, how many goals did Dixon kick, and you’d drop Hogan, yeah he had a stinker, but he’s had a great year.

Maybe don’t post until your blood pressure drops instead of bagging half the team that you’re supposed to love

Q: If only we had a good quality fast crumbing forward to bring into the side(!) playing at Casey – Could have made the difference with all the bombing inside forward 50?

2 free kicks for the game and his opponent who most said would towel him kicked one goal. Least of our problems. Get over it son

Yes, and the one goal was from an unattended mark on the goal line against Brayshaw when Oscar was up the ground minding the mark. Some of the other talls should have dropped back.

Which of their tall forwards gave us a bath?  Think carefully here.  Westhoff, who plays all over the ground, is a not a correct answer.

Do you remember that mark on the line? Or the marks they got 15m out directly in front?

They have multiple tall forwards so no one 'gave us a bath', but they took a lot more contested marks than us. We need tall defenders to be killing those contests on the wings.

The detractors can shove it.

That was finals football and we kept up the intensity all night.

Lost out on some equivalent umpiring calls both ways in the final quarter on opposition turf.

Super proud of the boys tonight.

Again, I view this as an important match in our development.

Compare this to Richmond’s performance against Port two weeks ago.

Port is 5-1 against the top 8. They are a good side.

This doesn’t ease my anger much because we shouldn’t be losing games with 29 more inside 50s. But yes, we played a high intensity game against a top 8 side in a hostile environment and led for 95% of the game.

Hogan insipid

Oscar, poor bastard, how could anyone expect a great performance from a bloke who was all alone in the back 50? (Hibberd Exempted)

Viney/Oliver epic. Champions

Gawn killed it in the ruck

Never out muscled, unlike against Colonwood

Dees owe me a pantry door, a dining table foot, and a first aid kit.

Watch us beat up on bottom 4 side next 2 weeks

Pissweak. So many other sides can come from nowhere, but never us.

Its a cultural thing, Im sure.

I don't think its cultural. I think it's a maturity and experience thing. Last year we won about half. This year our game has clicked some of the time and we've learnt to belt teams. We are still learning how to play our game under top pressure, but getting better. We'll get there.

You missed my point. My point is with so many players having zero impact it was a credit to the other few who had put us in a winning position to that point of the game. Too few.

Fair. Around the ball, Viney, Oliver, Jones and Brayshaw were on top most of the game, but our forward line was dysfunctional unfortunately,

More fundamentally if the club doesn't ask serious questions -- in the media (wear the fines) -- about the umpiring using specific examples they are not doing their job

too many pax when pressure on

trade tyson

drop petracca

petty in

spargo back in

no crumb

no composure

hohan questions when pressure on

I think the club will be extremely disappointed with the missed opportunity tonight. But is just me but these before game, quarter time ,half time ,3/4 time interviews stink!!!

Absolute waste.

We’ll make the finals, enough easy wins in there.

But there aren’t many really good teams this year, we should’ve been aiming for top 4 after those 6 in a row. Unfortunately everyone was right, and we can’t do it against decent sides. Port weren’t even that good tonight, it’s all mental. Good teams would’ve easily put this Port away.

We are the new Port Adelaide, easy work against the bottom 10, can’t beat the top 8.

I was at the Dogs game 3 weeks ago and watched Hogan mark absolutely everything and just dominate. Chris Judd said on the following Monday he was the best player in the competition at the present moment.

What has happened in 2 games of football?

Not a rough night....that infers effort , contest , deprevation by maggot.

He had a rubbish night...all of his own accord.

There's a difference.

Hogan missing AGAIN in a big game.

Petracca HELLO?

Oscar absolutely terrible again.  Stuffed our momentum multiple times with his sloppiness.  Admit he's awful. I can't excuse him any more.

Midfield tried hard.  Did all they could.  Not you Tyson, everyone else.

Lost it with our forward entries YET AGAIN.

Sloppy free after sloppy free.  No composure. Fumble fumble.

We are pretenders as everyone expected.

Effort ist class but you cant make chocolate outa sheeit

A few aint up to it and futures need to be decided

Neal Bullen

Harmes

Lewis

Bernie

T Smith?

That will do for a start!

As I said to Wiseblood it wasn't just the goals. They took a heap of contested grabs and also got some very soft goals deep because we were under sized.

And yes I watched the game you [censored].

Nope.

15-14.

This game wasn’t lost because of our defensive height.

Edit: they also took 4 in the last minute. So until that last possession it was 11-14 in our favour. So, put simply, you’re miles off.
