Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Neal-Bullen is a hard runner, but he undoes too much of his good work with poor disposal and decision making. He looks good against ordinary opposition but his disposal under pressure is ordinary. So he should be cusp 22 for mine.

We see and hear all these stats about how much of an elite runner ANB is, he covers the most distance, hits the highest speeds and all for what?!?

You notice an impact against lower ranked sides, then some other weeks it seems like he must be running laps over the road at Gosch's during game time for all the impact he has relative to KM's covered

Leaders who want the ball when it counts

Who didn't want it when it counted?  Did someone go to give Viney a handpass and he shook his head at them?  Was Nathan Jones sticking himself in a back pocket to get as far away from the ball as possible?

Strange comment.

I understand losing sucks, and I think it is more frustrating particularly when you believe your side deserved to win, but Friday’s effort was enormous.

I think overall, we were the better side of the match, unfortunately we just weren’t when it mattered most.

My brother and dad went to the game and they said the game was incredible and if we had won, that would have been enormously HUGE by us. I think when you’re at home watching from the TV, you don’t really realise the home ground advantage the Adelaide teams have. Every time Port kicked a goal the lights black out and the stadium alights with a thunderbolt – it’s incredible apparently.

Both said basically when Port hit the lead, they knew it would be hard to get over them purely because of how electric and exciting the crowd became. They also said the Adelaide teams have no right to complain about the GF in Vic when they have such an advantage with their Adelaide Oval fortress.

We were gallant and for the most part, better, but unfortunately, we didn’t cross the line because of poor efficiency inside 50 as well as a couple of dodgy free kicks in that last quarter.

Expect us to bounce back STRONGLY against Saints, and really hope we can make the run home to finals. I think we deserve to be there, it is simply about capitalising and taking every chance we get. Need a few guys to lift though to return to the form we had a couple of weeks – namely Hogan.

With all due respect, the amount of posters that confuse opposition players is unbelievable.

I've watched the entire first half replay and haven't seen ANB near Motlop at any stage. I can't remember the second half when I watched live and certainly didn't notice it then, I'll watch it again with ANB in mind.

Where has this furphy come from?

Do posters watch games or just listen to nonsense?

When a player plays bad, its "oh they were tagging so and so" - a demonland habit thats only crept in lately. Denial is the first sign of failure they say.

We have a reputation of being downhill skiers.  We have played some great footy this year, when we have been permitted to run freely.

But if we really want to go to the next level, we need to learn to step up when more physicality is imposed on us by the opposition.  At this stage, it would appear to be so close yet so far.

I've had a few days to reflect on the game now, so now I'd like to add my 2 cents. My fit of rage is hopefully almost over now, I'll try not to get too emotional again. My immediate reaction after the full time siren was probably the same as everyone else "f'in maggots f'kd us in the butt and cost us 4 points", followed by "those Port c**ts we're lucky to win that". On reflection, I probably wouldn't change my view too much.

Firstly before I start ranting, I want to say something positive. I thought compared to Queens Birthday our intensity and effort on the inside was huge and we completely dominated Port in this area. This was reflected by our conversion to clearances and inside 50s. So in that regard I was very happy with our performance and how we lifted compared to the last game. Very positive signs going into next week.

Now to the negative criticisms. Port were very fortunate with some calls by the officials which kept them alive. If that game could be replayed the same way but without the poor (non)decisions, I feel like on balance that was a 5-6 goal win for us even with our inefficiency inside 50. I think this is why the loss hurts so much to me because I felt like we gave everything and didn't get rewarded with 4 points. I feel gutted for the lads based solely on this regard.

During the game we were threatening to kick away, and I thought once we opened up to a 4-5 goal lead that the game would open up. There were a couple of times in the game where we almost did exactly this with a run of quick goals in typical Dees fashion. However, every time we got 3 goals in the clear there was always a dubious umpiring call that released the pressure valve and resulted in a Port goal, which in turn completely halted our momentum. In my opinion, this had a huge effect on the final result as it kept them within range and stopped us blowing out the lead.

The inability to get away on the scoreboard allowed Port to continue to play their negative defensive football (which I hate by the way) and contributed to our inefficiency. The reason I believe they were extremely lucky is that it worked for them with some external assistance. Port were completely dominated in the middle however managed to hang on by the skin of their teeth and ultimately take the lead late in the game.

I recall at some point during the 2nd half they flashed up stats on the screen showing Port had 7 goals to our 2 from set shots. I don't know what this stat ended up being at full time. I know one of them was that non-mark that was paid, and at least a couple more from soft free kicks. For example, I thought Brayshaw was unlucky to get pinged for a high challenge for jumping in the air to attempt an intercept and getting headbutt in the guts. Meanwhile at the other end, we had to work our socks off to get set shots on goal, but got denied goals or goal scoring opportunities by baffling calls.

On the balance of play I feel like that should have been a comfortable win to the Dees, and I certainly couldn't have faulted our performance too much besides the obvious that we didn't impact the scoreboard enough. It's an area that we clearly need to work on, but I certainly don't think it should have cost us 4 points this time.

I can take heart that we won't lose too many games playing like that. Bring on the Saints.

This year we added Flat track bullies to our cred...hey thats how we roll...

There have been for mine 3 games thus far that were finals like in so far as it was just a pressure cooker.

Thats 3 for zip !!

Unless we learn this next step up we ain't going anywhere...and even if we go there.. we're still going nowhere.

A brand wont get you anywhere...a culture might. That and tactics with the right players...in the right place ;)

Well ANB was certainly not on Motlop when ANB ran into goal and missed from 10 metres out, nor when he smashed a handball into Jones' face from 2 metres away,  nor when he miskicked to teammates from 20 metres away twice, nor when he fumbled the ball a few times and nor when he dropped an easy mark.

Might have played on him at some other stage of the game, not that I noticed it.

Hope you're not pining too much for warmer climes

After a great trip jr I have come back to cold weather and the Dees of old. However I am very relaxed about our football team they are about where I expected at the start of the year. I still think we will finish Eighth, that is about where our list talent is at.

To any and all who are comforting themselves with the idea we would a beaten them had it not be for XY or  Z decision....or another other subjective hypothetical... may I just offer a reminder of our sterling scoreboard pressure of that last and very important quarter..

My lord ....I offer into evidence...point 1...and point 2

and not a single goal

Gone from attacking the record number of winning qtrs .... to not even snagging a sausage !!!

Not a good time of the year to start getting the wobbles.

Not a good time of the year to start getting the wobbles.

Our last goal was at the 17 minute mark of the third quarter.

Our first behind for the final quarter was at the 20 minute mark.

The gameplan certainly broke down against Port.

[censored] that's a stupid comment. had Brayshaw been played the mark and Wingard not we would of won.

we have very few plodders and are still adapting to life after lever

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
