Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

additionally i doubt that the proposal had been discussed in any detail with him. was probably just a road side sound bite from him and the first he had heard of it

I will take that as you think we lost on Friday because we train on Goschs.

Pretty hard to measure or quantify I would say, but I’m very confident that if we had the training facilities of some of the wealthier clubs we would be better than what we are. How much better again would be impossible to measure. Would we be better by enough of a percentage to win the game on Friday night? Maybe, maybe not. Again impossible to measure.

What I’m very confident of is that if we were to train on a ground the same width as the MCG, we would be a damn sight better on the MCG. Enough to have won the Geelong game I would say.

So in short, yes I do think better facilities will help us win games.

If Gawn could kick we would have won and it would have had nothing to do with the training ground. Having said that I am not saying we should not get better training conditions. I just don't think that is the reason we cannot beat anyone decent.

I don't disagree with any of that Ernest it just annoys me that people see it as the reason for our lack of success in 2018 when the real reason is we are probably just not good enough yet.

I just hope we have a plan B as this one looks like it has some large difficulties not the least of which is the political problems.

Pretty sure they have plan b and c but plan A is plan A for a reason.

I fail to see where anyone has made that claim. Absurd conclusion to make.

It has been ten days and over 400 Demonland posts since the Hun broke this on the front page. There have been good comments raised in favour and also valid arguments against in support of Gosch’s Paddock as another option! Since it must have been leaked/given to the Hun by the Club, surely it is time for the President to make an announcement (or give us further details) either outlining the Club’s rationale for this proposal or hosing down our expectations?

Various organisations would be aware of options.  Any one of them could have leaked it.

You might have missed it CBD, Bartlett commented on the report in his interview last week.   "...the Demons' plan to build a new training base and headquarters, with an area next to the MCG and Yarra Park being considered..."We're really keen and have been working with the AFL and state government to look at all options in that area," Bartlett said...We're working really hard behind the scenes … and making sure we set up the club for the next 30 to 50 years..."It's early days, but it's exciting as well."

Hope that fills in the gaps.

There are various options out there.  My view is nothing will happen at least till after the next election so commentary by the club or others won't mean much.

Re the above while all those comments have merit and hopefully we will resolve them over the next decade.

I have only one concern in the short term Did any of them cause us to lose last Friday evening as I cannot see that they did?

That's an extremely tenuous argument

What has it got to do with us? They are in charge for a reason. Not withstanding our recent rubbish boards, their job is the keep the club moving forward, not to engage us in every minor detail.

Imho the MFC will and should care less about pandering to the whim of a few hundred occasional spectators.

Thats not how you go about a business case for the establishment of a world class facility thats 99% about use by and of a club, its admin, players and coaches. Its about what provides the best outcome for the club in the manner IT will use it.

Diversification of the Mfc fan base, will not occur, & will not get much growth with the Jolimont establishment.

The whole problem is the aim at the top end of town alone.

And this is why we will not grow.

The location of the training base is irrelevant to just about every point youve chosen to go with regarding this topic.

Its a choice of locale to do a job and speak to the clubs heritage and bithplace.

Ppl dont follow a club because of where it trains...not as such.

Jolimont IS a pretty accessible place. There are more points of travel embarkation than that that might access the world at Richmond alone.

A home for the club is for the entirety of the club...admin and Football .

As to the idea of recognition there could be generations that grow up noticing a football club next to the G...not of yellow and black lineage but flying a Red and Blue flag right next to the home of footy.

Would never happen across the road.

IMO, Its not about the people that are following, so much blzb.

But about attracting others who aren't,,, by opening the club up to all.  Particularly the public transport users of the East and Sth East.

Purely as the starting point.

And IMO, we want as many patrons flocking from games to the new HQ's after games, to celebrate, and to spend.   And then after, all they have to do after is step outside;,, and they are either at the tram stop or the train station... if the Richmond Station is the option.

Jolimont will NOT do this for the masses.

Goschs is effectively by a road in the middle of nowhere.

Yarra Park IS the MCG...the home of Football....our home.

Despite only being a kilometre or so apart they are worlds apart.

Only a diehard D will ever go to Goschs....no one else cares or knows. Family day is often at Luna Park or somewhere kiddy friendly.

The club obviously dont think that much of Goschs either.

There's no sense of belonging...on the south side of swan st.

People saying supporters living in the SE[ Pakenham, Cranbourne] are correct saying we can get off public transport at Richmond station,  FOR  NOW. With darling Dan the hard hat mans new underground, NO train from the SE suburbs will go through Richmond or    South Yarra. If you want to go to the MCG you either change trains at Caufield or travel to the new station beneath Swanston st.

I’ve not joined in the discussion before, but you do raise an interesting point there. The first games of football - that which we now call Australian Rules - were played by the Melbourne Football Club in the parkland adjacent to the cricket ground. It is also the parkland where those free for all schoolboy games between Melbourne Grammar, StKilda Grammar and Scotch College were played. So it is very historically important to the club (and to us the followers of the club).

I still have my doubts about obtaining a permit to build the facility at Yarra Park, but if it came to pass it would be just as significant as a move back to training on the MCG (and that won’t happen).

In the HUN today the MFC have said the training ground will have no fence and only goal posts at one end .

Does this sound poor or is it just me?

Ever other club seems hell bent on having training grounds to match the size of the G but not us the facility will only have posts at one end! Oh please.

Stay where we are at least we can replicate a real game.

Oh goodie

Why stop  there

Let's just half a ground and practice half a game, we're only playing half a game anyway

Double down on the fwd press

Also scatter red hot coals across the ground to toughen the players up and really rile up those virtue signalling greenie left latte sipping almond dipping bearded hipster yobs.

i saw that and thought it strange.   doesn't have to be a closed in fence....but....no fence at all?

now they have that silly notion locked in

walked up to that area on sat at half time. there is a slope but it is not that much. is plenty of room for oval with minimal trees to cut down depending how you site it. would still be a fair distance to jolimont housing. also the east/west path and avenue of elms and northern verge would separate the oval from the over rail-line building by a fair bit

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
