Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

It's just not gonna happen unfortunately. Even if it did preseason would be an issue with the MCG hosting cricket

Not sure how. We won’t train when internationals are on, Shield has been moved to St Kilda and it will be our oval so no local grade comp on it.

If the proposal comes to be, I think PJ will go down as one of Melbourne's greatest leaders in history. There may be room for a 'PJ Wing' if he pulls it off!

As a kid, I always asked my Dad why Richmond's oval is 'right there', and last weekend at the QB match, walking past it after coming off the Richmond station, scooting past the Cricketer's Arms, and crossing Punt Road, gave me an uncomfortable feeling.

(Although, maybe it was the two drunken Collingwood fans that stammered in unintelligibly 'crissed as a picket' language, "carn' the wood, you'll be lucky to win Dees fans" - and, only to be correct...)

So, maybe it was that which made me uncomfortable?

(Nevertheless, I did respond by stating audibly that I still have my front teeth..!)

Ok, I digress...

I think it would be amazing if we had a home ground, so close to the hallowed turf, on my favourite side of the 'G'!

Fingers are definitely crossed...

It was never planned as a ‘home ground’ (as that is always going to be the “G”) but as our training ground, with our administration, gym, training facilities, ‘Demon Shop’ (presumably) and, most important, our “Social Club” right next to the “G” where we can congregate post match and even use during the week (like a “Gold Class” Bentleigh Club)! A place where we can feature our memorabilia and walk past our trophy cabinets stacked with Premiership Cups!

Herald Sun article left out one crucial detail - the new Demonland headquarters will also be part of the development.

As you can see from this artist's impression, it will be discretely located right next to the MFC admin building.

I would have thought good engineering and design could enhance the view and amenity of the station while covering the tracks. Interesting to see how this goes. I'm a supporter

The location in East Melbourne (Yarra Park) is Wrong.

We are trying to grow the club base at grassroots level, and so this location is the last of the 3. I would think.

We are aligned with Casey. And we're trying to connect with our original supporter base, which the largest is around Malvern to Oakleigh, Bentleigh, and those suburbs, etc.

we are going to grow out in the Sth East corridor out from Melbourne's suburbs. we will have large prospective numbers of people out there,  IF we can make a direct link Via public transport...

Jolimont just makes yet another step in the transport journey, for those prospective supporters to undertake,,, in getting to, and leaving to get home.

We are talking about the reduction of driving to games, and so the location IS Imperative to our Growth_

Location Location Location.

We have almost everything right, except the locality of the home base.

If we are to attract big numbers of our supporters to training, and to after-games, and functions, our new HQ should be adjacent to the biggest Rail-Line, and with Tram stops present, as well.

It must be at the Richmond station, to attract our support base, and to make it easier for them, getting to, and home afterward.

I say down with East Melbourne  -----  It's just too hard for distant supporters, to make the trip, on another step to Jolimont.

__ are we developing Casey, and the Sth-Est Corridor,,,  or Aren't we ?

Re my previous.

oooppps.

All you say is good.

Although a walk from Richmond station to OUR club rooms ain't that hard

Still looking forward to  the ongoing discussion.

May have jumped in a little early

Short walk to the train, in the rain??

Short walk to the train, with little kiddies?

Short walk to the train, with people with disabilities.

Jolimont suits the well heeled, who take taxis everywhere, and do not travel on metro trains.

It does not suit the grassroots supporter AT ALL.

IF the Victorian Labor Party see this as fact,,, then they will help us to build adjacent to Gosch's Paddock.

And we can build over Swan St and the Tramlines,,, more easily than building over the Jolimont Rail line. and cheaper to do except for the apartment building.

The ground floor would be undercover car-park, maybe even 2 levels, one below ground.  So the 1st floor would reach out over Swan Street, above the Tramlines, with viewing over Gosch's.and training. It could have some membership retail area and cafe etc. The floors above, can hold the Gym, Footy Dept,  Admin' Offices, Function Rooms for meetings, Social areas, etc.

A building over Swan Street gives us passing traffic every day of the week to grow ourselves, and so easy to attend, and to leave for home.

Easy for families.   Easy for every-one along the Sth-East Corridor, who continually get ignored buy the AFL.

Lets own the STH-East Corridor.  We can if we want to.

Like some of this. Build over the already ugly Swan Street . Open up views over Punt rd and Goshs.

Covered walk way beside rail line to the existing footbridge direct entry to the G . You can even wander through the trees if you wish.

Land and air space in Richmond probably cheaper than East Melb.

In both options you probably wouldn’t be buying the land for the training oval (which would remain public open space)! We would merely have an agreement to use the new ‘oval’ similar to current arrangements.

The ‘air space’ over the line is much more feasible in EM as the tracks are in a culvert (contained within a rail reservation) versus elevated tracks in Richmond.  Options of building Clubrooms and training facilities on public land South of Gosch’s Paddock would be hard to sell to Government as it could only involve alienation of existing public land irrespective of how unattractive and little-used it currently is.

Leasing of of railway land would be similarly priced in either East Melbourne or Richmond however development costs would most likely be substantially more when we are talking about construction over elevated rail.

I'm not trying to be tedious, just understand your point

My point is: the commercial/gym/secondary use facilities would be well placed here

Training there is not an issue - when does training occur - not when most people can hop on/off at places you've identified

I suspect (maybe wrong) most people who could attend are commuting into the city

Get what you're saying about on/off at Jolimont but where else? In any case, if you could access the gym...in early, gym, watch training, work etc (I have no idea when training is, sorry if I sound dense)

Then you've got the exec and admin arms of the club, they need to work there - I suspect a base near the G suits them better in terms of basic geographic location than the corridor you've mentioned...(depending where you are suggesting)

Point taken about having to get off at Richmond and walk there, but what's the walk from Rich to the proposed site. 300m maybe? And to Jolimont, another couple hundred?

To flip what I am saying - where else could it be taking all that into account.

Actually, put it at Trevor Barker oval or in that precinct, perfect! Just kidding - you'll only really reach a limited demographic. But then, might be easier in overcoming opposition. Who knows.

I'd have thought a base in the proposed location with all that signage frontage to Punt Rd would be very good marketing for the club.....

(Again, not arguing for argument's sake - it's a very interesting discussion!)

Hi timbo.   Not sure If you understood my post earlier.  Our corridor (Malvern, Moorabbin, Bentleigh, Oakleigh, etc), is/was our strong hold from years gone-by,  Re supporters.

But that's Not my training location, suggestion.

I'm suggesting we stay at Gosch's paddock,,, and build our H/Q (a 4 or 5 story complex),  between Swan St and Richmond Railway Station,,, which should be built over Swan Street, across to the edge of Gosch's.  Overseeing Gosch's and our training ground there.

This is a big deal;,,, building over Swan St and the tramlines,,, but not as big a challenge as building over the Jolimont Railway lines.

The thing is, we would be right on the doorstep of the Major Rail lines servicing the East of Melbourne,

the Sth-East of Melbourne, and the South of Melbourne, all the way to Hastings/Finders, the Mornington Peninsular,  and Eastern Victoria.

The building at this locale would open onto the Richmond Station Promenade from the 1st or 2nd floor.  This Promenade would take us along to the Mcg, City end,,, without having to negotiate ramps or steps/stairs.

We can do this.

.

DV8 you are making a huge deal out of approximately 5 minutes additional walk.

For those who don’t want to walk, get the train into Flinders street and then on the Jolimont train or the tram. It will stop out the front.

It has nothing to do with how many extra minutes walk... It's the extra step in the chain they have to negotiate, that would put people off. I'm not talking game day.  I'm talking about other days, weekdays, and for functions, or dropping in to training etc.

We will lose support at the Yarra-Park location, instead of gaining numbers.  Only the rusted on will still attend, instead of us growing.

It's the commuter traffic on the trains heading home out of the city, that when about to pass our H/Q's,,,  that this Swan St location would encourage people to get off the train on the way home, and drop in.

Not decrying Gosch’s Paddock but it is a fair step out from Swan Street and there is a soccer training oval in between. Any building would have to be at the Southern end which is a fair hike from Richmond Station and (as l suggested in post #140) equidistant or further than the Yarra Park option!

It is not a suggestion of grassroots supporters vs well-heeled nor Labor/Green vs Liberal! It is simply the location with the least downside for all supporters (albeit the fact that it entails a very slight grade when approaching from a Southern direction)!

No, our H/Q's should be here  >>>  opposite 112 Olympic Blvd, Melbourne, Vic 3004

Across Swan Street from Gosch's Paddock.  To be built backing up against the Richmond Railway Station...  a 4 Story building, with underground & ground level parking...   >>>  we have to build over and across Swan Street, and the Tram Lines, and the footpath on Swan St up to the edge of Gosch's.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
