Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Darwin game dumped

Too much is made of the whether in Darwin, you say last year we won a week after Darwin, but lost 2  weeks later, the second game after Darwin has nothing as o do with playing in Darwin, today whether is low 19 high 32, humidity of 19%, that's not high humidity, we play at night where the temp is around 19 to 23, with low humidity. Being flat after Darwin has more to do with a young   inexperienced side fading out towards a long season. We will sell more home games, after the pokies are sold 10 million dollars of revenue  will be loste, hate pokies but the do gooders will not give us money for giving them up. We are getting good crowds that we are playing well, but that won't last for ever, when we are rebuilding again the crowds will drop, and the club will lose millions of dollars, before we got Bentley club we lost millons every year, we only started making profit after we got the club,

We don't know about that. My suspicion has always been that giving up the pokies was the price to be paid for getting State and/or Federal government support (cash and perhaps expedited planning approval) for our new admin and training base, wherever that might be. And if we can make money out of the new site as well, all the better.

Yep, same with me.  In fact if we get the property near Jolimont station as suggested, and if we own this building cafe, bar, medical suites equals $$$$$ through commercial rent.

Darwin, we would get 25-30K at a home game V Fremantle at the MCG.  We would get 30-40K V Adelaide this year at the MCG, I think we are past the concern that we would get under 20K for a home game like we have in the past V interstate clubs.  The AFL would like us to play these clubs at the MCG as they all complain they don't get enough games there.

it is not going to happen giving up pokies has nothing to do with getting planing approval, and even if a government give a promise to give you planning approval, you can't trust it is going to happen, there is a election coming up new governments don't honor promises the last government make.

Good in theory, but we'll cop a home game at Etihad if we leave the NT deal. We'd be lucky to get 15K for any of GWS, GC17 or Freo there.

No we won't, as I stated in my post interstate clubs are crying to the AFL for more home games at the MCG.  The AFL doesn't want Richmond/Collingwood/Hawthorn playing to many interstate clubs at the MCG all about attendances.  Dump Darwin, get Adelaide or WCE at the G, play Port or Freo in Alice.

Nice sentiment, but imo on a 12 deg, wet winter twilight game at the G vs Freo, Port, Brisbane or GCS we would be lucky to draw 20,000. I haven't checked figures from a range of attendances of interstate teams vs lowly supported Vic teams (like us) this year at the G.

And would the property above the Jolimont rail line be ours or would we lease the development from the govt? The state and/or federal govt would need to tip in at least half of the money needed to build. Not sure they'd give us ownership as well.

anything above tracks is a curiosity of sorts..  reminds me a little of how it works in China where NO  ONE owns the land but they might own whats on it...and have the right by a lease  to have it there.

My understanding is you can buy air space but NOT above tracks...there it is a lease...invariably 99 years. The chattels are yours in the normal commercial manner...so YOU reap any benefit other than the outgoing of the air-lease

This is NO reason not to consider this scenario.

The government has basically built facilities for every other AFL club that they take ownership of, look at the facility for Collingwood the massive social/function room over looking the oval, imagine the cash they bring in from that before and after matches plus functions through out the year.

Hot Sauce:

- NT games to continue. Basically have no choice (financially and we're in too deep with sponsorship/relationships etc). Didn't specify Darwin, but I got the impression it was status quo (no rolling over or laying down).

- Both games are either NT or Docklands, definitely not MCG.

Hot Sauce knows, not guessing.

Over.

I beg to differ - jokes are (supposed to be) funny.

Travelling from Melbourne to Alice Springs is approx 1,888 km whereas Melbourne to Perth is about 2,700 km. Since we won our last flag, West Coast has won three while travelling to Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane far more than we ever have to travel. The excuse that we are 'flat' because we have to travel to Alice Springs doesn't wash with me. (Darwin, on the other hand, is problematic, not because of the distance but because of the conditions.)

Agree.  Too many here seem to equate Darwin to Alice but they are poles apart

They have given Geelong a massive boost, but of course that is a very marginal area electorally I believe.

Well I would cop Etihad instead of Darwin. We have to put winning games first and money will follow. This game just stuffs us up and it is for more than 1 week.

Big fail from PJ unfortunately.

If we really had to play two games in the NT to make money,  then both should have been in Alice Springs.

Darwin tropical conditions will end our season.. if not the actual game vs Freo, the game after against the Dogs.

Actually after yesterday maybe we should move more games to venues where I will not be tempted to waste my time and emotional energy by trying to attend.    :-((((

i want us to dump them so we get more MCG games. The fatigue factor is rubbish. We've been crap the whole time we've played up there and we somehow attribute [censored] performances with playing in humid conditions. Maybe it was just because we're an average team? What's our excuse for our performances against Hawthorn, Richmond, Collingwood, and St Kilda?

We should 100% be getting out of Darwin, even if it means a home game at Etihad.

The Etihad home game thing will disappear eventually, either when the current contractual requirement for a minimum number of games there ends, or when the interstate clubs pressure the AFL into getting more games at the G given the GF deal that's been done.

I wonder what the players think about playing up in Darwin. Aside from the obvious physical effects, the potential impact on morale must also have some consequence. A happy team surely performs better. But then again the players may not have an issue with it and I have no idea of knowing...

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
