Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

We already have a Murphy type player in Tyson and he is struggling to retain a senior spot.

We need a slippery silky outsider who can also kick a goal or two on the run from 50ish.

Thanks but no thanks.

I dont think of Murphy as a pure inside mid. I think he is quite rounded.

I dont think we hunt him, but if we miss out on gaff and he was quite cheap I wouldn't say no.

I don't see either of those two as Pure-Inside Mids,,, and that's what we need;,,, well rounded Mids to compliment our tough on-ballers.

Tyson was hopefully to be this, but hasn't.

This is why I say, of these two, Murphy or Sloane.  I would think the obvious choice would be Sloane.

Add Gaff into this equation, and I still think Sloane.  Because with Sloane we have that well rounded Mid who will give us enough time to grow a young kid from the draft to become his successor.

I just don't think Gaff is quick enough, for what he will cost us.

IF we can only take one more top talent at present, with our cap space,  I'd rather Sloane, or De Goey.

Of these two, I would prefer De Goey.

I'm sorry but Gaff is not quick. if you ask any WCE supporters they wanted him dropped last season. He was pathetic. It's often the case that the club he is playing at know him the best. Having a stellar season but I saw too much of him last season to change my mind.

Sloane wint come to us I dont think. I would've had him over murphy.

Gaff only costs money as he is a free agent.

If Gaff wasn’t available and Marc was deemed ready to go by our medical staff, in a heartbeat. He still covers the ground pretty well (better than our other plus 30’s in Bernie and Jordan) and is a good user on the footy. I’m assuming he would come in at an affordable price and at Bernie’s expense.

The concept makes sense. Put him on a wing or high half forward and he would offer great quality, run and experience. Just like Wells has at Collingwood, Deledio at Giants and Stevie J before him....

They have had some good moments, but have also spent more time on the injury list than on the field.  The reason I've liked the moves for Cross, Vince, Lewis etc has been because they are durable players who are rarely (touch wood) injured.  Murphy has a history of getting himself injured and I fail to see that changing at his age.

I get the point you're making, especially experience, but if we want to go in that direction again I think we can find someone more durable than Marc Murphy.

Sorry WB I probably should have been clearer with my sarcasm. Outside mature players at that age will have a significant risk of injury.

Don't see the point in discussing players we have NO hope of getting.

They would burn down the Pies training centre if he left.

I"ve been watching Gaff, doing a bit more inside work out of necessity, but whole team is playing well

Went missing last couple of years when it was tough going, he is a downhill skier

Normal wettin of pants on here when a player gets a bit of media attention

What's wrong with an outside running downhill skier in a potentially top 4 team?

I hear the Lions need mature players. and leaders.

So, of the mature inside Mids in free agency, would you have Murphy first, or Sloane ?

LOL if you think Sloane is coming to us.

And you're kidding yourself if you don't think we need mature players and leaders.

Vince and Lewis are both on their last legs so we'll at least need to replace them from a leadership perspective.

I have an opinion on players, not a fan of Gaff, if we sign him,  hope not, will support him like I do all MFC players.

Contrary to popular belief, don't gush at players, just chat to them on a number of subject

Last conversation was with Nut Harmes on daschunds

As for Murphy?  would be amazed if we even asked

@dazzledavey36 Chunk liked the video, so an opinion of a faux tough guy doesn't really matter

Oh mate, please stop embarrassing yourself! It's cringeworthy.

Of course we have a chance Red.

It depends on our desire to do it.  We need more speed with the run, than just plain endurance run and carry.   Run and carry will not bust open tight finals games.

That takes x factor , speed and pinpoint kicking.

I sense the real issue why many here don't want to discuss this, is because it means further trades, possibly of players they are emotionally invested in.  If we are to be ruthless, we can't let these things get in our way to getting to the Grand Final, and winning the darn thing, instead of getting belted in them.

Because they don't fire-up, when needed.

They can't do the magic

- - - - - - - -

What we needed this time last year can change, from that time, to now...  and what we need going forward, is not so much that gut-run, which was so important to us 12 months ago,   But rather, midfield speed, and x factor.

Our power players like Petracca, are not quick across the ground.  And don't have that much X factor, with the ball in their hands.

We have unearthed ANB, and Harmes is emerging as gut runners.  I think Stretch may also add to this equation?

We need that point of difference, who can create from inside the Mids setup.   And when resting at half-forward, as well.

We are a little bit vanilla in our inside midfield group rotations, apart from our power contested winning.

I do very much think we need mature midfield players.  eg Sloane.  and I'm not kidding myself. or you.

Shiel, another I would be chatting to strongly, as the Giants tumble down that bean-stalk.

Vince and Lewis will in my mind, finish this year.

I would pay Lewis out, and rookie him. To play as assistant coach at Casey.  We can then call on him next year, IF required.

I'd be cashing in all salary cap space possible, this year, to use on a gun.  no, not Gaff...   good player, but not a gun.

De Goey isn't going anywhere, that is my point. The Pies will give him a fat contract and he will stay.

That should be our only priority.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
