Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

i think youre all undervaluing Maynard, was in the round one team this year and had a pretty injury interrupted year.

i think he would have played a hell of a lot more when viney was out instead of JKH and when stretch was called up too. the coaches rate him

We could potentially lose another three that is a lot of places to fill, starting to look a bit like Blightie's 25% turn over rate?????????? Shows a commitment to continual improvement (TQM 101), I trust our recruitment team but my head is starting to SPIN.........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wonder why Johnstone announcement was delayed and not rolled up with the others.  Maybe his end of season interview was delayed for some reason.  Otherwise something has changed in the meantime?

Interesting. I wonder if they've agreed to re-rookie him or whether we've identified another player to fill this role.

Hopefully the latter - Johnstone is miles off AFL. Not sure why he wasn't delisted last week with the others.

27 years old in a couple of days, played 2 career games, dropped after both. We are in a lot of trouble if he is playing regular football next year.

So far only 1 guy potentially gone from our prelim team (AVB if he does go), and 1 who automatic best 22 (Hogan and he's still a maybe).

I think we need at least 30 decent AFL ready players to content and we finally had that this year - the 22 in the prelim, plus Hogan, Lever, Fritsch, Stretch, Kent, Hunt, Vince, Peds and JHK. From that we're only losing AVB, Vince, Kent and Peds and quiet possibly Hogan. The others going are really just the deadwood end of depth.

So we'll need only another 3 or 4 guys to either step in or step up to complete a squad that should again challenge. I'm hoping Petty, Baker and Maynard are guys to really step up to get in the team conversation, and that we get big improvement out of Weids, Hunt, Hannan, Stretch and Garlett which will ensure we stay in contention, plus whatever we add in the trade to immediately push to be in that squad. We'll always have guys who are developing or have been in the system for a couple of years and go no further, but we've lost some depth now but we're not in a bad position at all.

7 gone off main list and a rookie, with 4 possibles we know of, Kent, Tyson, AVB and JH. That is 11 off the main list if they all go.

If May and KK come in we need 9 more players.

We will not draft 9, so that tells me we have our eyes on a couple more players at least.

Getting Preuss as well, so that'll leave another 8 (or 6/7 if we go main list short).

IMO From a list perspective our most pressing needs will be a small lock down defender (Jets not getting any younger), key position forwards, speedy half forward/wingman and as always mids. We've got Bradtke and Guy Walker as Cat B's as well.

I'm guessing that Kade K nominating us and the prospect or recruiting Toby Bedford (our Next Gen Academy player) are considered upgrades on Dion.

Re the list numbers:

Out: 8 (including Kent, excluding Hogan and delisted rookies).

? Ins: (excluding May):

  • 3 draft picks (minimum requirement),
  • Kade K,
  • probably Toby Bedford,
  • Preuss,
  • Senior offers to upgrade Keilty and T smith

That is a possible 8 in, altho it is unlikely all will eventuate.  That leaves 3 or 4 'A' rookie spots to fill in the preseason/rookie draft (if we choose to fill all rookie spots).

What becomes interesting now is who else we let go:  AVB, Tyson, Garlett???  More water to go under the bridge.

Maynard is the perfect depth player.  Good size, fit, can play through the midfield... but won't seem too fazed by spending his time at Casey.  He is capable of coming in and playing a role when needed, but he isn't best 22.  We still need his type on our list, though.  More than happy for him to stay on.

I would like to see us try and talk Waite into a comeback. He's still got it and would be a good short-term option if Hogan leaves.

On one condition - he never ever gets to see the best of our medical team. Tell him to bring his own tape/dencorub, and to only ever bring his medical issues to the intern/trainee. They'd get a huge amount of experience and our best medico's can concentrate on guys who'll get out on the park.

So the AFL just introduced mid-season rookie drafts and also the ability for clubs to replace seriously injured/retired players right up to the start of the season. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-10-04/afl-brings-in-midseason-rookie-draft-for-2019-

Do teams such as us (Lever) or West Coast (NicNat) who have guys with existing injuries get the chance to bring in a rookie, or will it only be for those guys who get injured/retire post the trade/draft periods? Would nearly give time to audition someone then discard if no good once that player comes back, like the old rookie system, except they don't get to stay on the list??

OK  A lot of water to pass under the bridge but lets say.....

Jessie

Vanders

Kent

Tyson

GONE!

Ok I A grader and several very important bit players not with the club in 2019

My View is .. well we would have to be significantly better of player and draft wise to equate to the experience, and part of a team structure Goody has developed to have lost these guys

I hope , trust, pray we don't get bent over play, hard ball with trades and announce ourselves a hard ass club which wont settle for anything less than putting MFC RIGHT IN THE FRAME FOR 2019 FLAG!

GO DEES!

People suggesting as many as 10 players getting cut or traded need to consider who we are getting in.  We have no good draft picks at the moment, not a great position to trade and the best state league players will be given to the bottom teams.

So players like JKH will certainly be on the list next year. I imagine T Smith will be as well. If Weed and Hogan both go down for example we need some cover.

So 4 kids in the draft, 2 casey upgrades. 2 players traded in (Pruess and Gaff) - yes i still think we are a chance at gaff

that is 6 so far.

2 casey upgrades - please explain.

Who?   How?  Can't 'upgrade' from the VFL, need to go via the open draft as I understand.

The way I see it, all of the delistings were unlikely to push for best 25.  Retirements cost us a couple of handy players, who were at the back end of their careers and probably also not best 25.  Turning over any number of these players (not likely to add value to potentially adding value) is definitely an upgrade.  We then look at ‘departures’ - Hogan, Kent, VDB.  I imagine they were not what we wanted to happen, and we are looking at 1 A grader, 1 valuable  player and one good player (when fit) potentially exiting.  3 of our top 25 (12%) turnover of the core of the list.

Not sure we will get May.  KK and the Prius will be positive additions (compared to what they replace).  If JH goes, we would need good value return to end up positive on this trade.  Expect us to be into a few smokeys, and to end up with a seriously upgaded overall list.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
