Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

    Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

    Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

    We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

    However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

    The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

    Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

    We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

    WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

    Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

It's a shame that he hasn't fulfilled his early promise, but I've never been convinced that he'd be a consistent high level performer.  Form and attitude have held him back, but in recent years it's been his body that's let him down.  Maybe a new environment will see that luck change.

We wont be getting a decent draft pick for him, 4th... maybe 3rd if we're very lucky.

To tell you the truth, I would have done a straight swap for Goddard or Freeman, but they've been delisted so that's no help now.

Billy Longer?

Jack Lonie?

Maybe the Saints have to send their 1st round pick 3 or 2019 1st round to Sydney for Hannebury and get a pick back they can use for Kent?

Sydney have 31 and 34 or thereabouts.

Alternatively they could offer a future 2nd for Kent but that would stop them being able to use future 1st vfor Hannebury.

I reckon this will drag on in trade week.

Yep on reflection I'm dreaming. Saints pick 57 will probably get it done and move on.

Weird that Saints delist Freeman who had finally got his body right but was given only two games to show his wares and they trade in Kent whose body is no more reliable!  Even if they do get Kent on the cheap it still seems not much improvement.

Saints have done almost as bad a job as we did and Carlton are doing with their top 10 picks and their development.  They will be in a world of pain for some time to come, especially as they have little trade currency this year.  Not the best place for Kent to go to but he probably had little choice and little interest from others.

Wish him all the best at Moorrabbin.

The problem is that he can't consistently keep himself fit, and hasn't done so for years. We are rightly offering what seems to be a one year deal, and the Saints have offered him three which gives him more security, both for his career and his family, long term.

I do like Kent though and feel he could be a best 22 player if fit, but what choice does the club have with a bloke who has struggled with injuries for 3-4 years now? A one year deal is fair at our end, but do is his choice for a longer deal elsewhere.

I agree he has played 63 games over 6 years. An average of 10 games per season is not flash. His body is simply not robust enough for the top level.

Take the draft pick and punt on a kid or state leaguer

Pick 3 ought to get it done. We could use Izak Rankine.

I wonder if, in the chaos of trade period, and throw all the other ifs in like Hogan actually going, it could happen?

Picks bounce along, we end up with an existing top-10, package it with Kent and maybe something else, get pick 3, get the precise player we most need.

Yes, obviously I'm just yanking the chain, like everyone else at this time of year.

Has been pretty much best 22 when fit, so interested in why he would jump ship. It's not like he wasn't getting the opportunity here, it was simply his own body holding him back.

Unfortunately he isn't worth much on the trade table either, so I'm not expecting much in return tbh.

Is this something you know 'dazzle'?

Maybe in a swap that involved another player?

I think Billings is very talented but has been underwhelming at the Saints, it's these type of players I would be looking at if we think we can turn them around.

I think we should focus on the inconsistent players on our list (Petracca) before we try to grab inconsistent players on other lists and make them guns

Id say it would probably be the security of a 3 year contract. Cant see us offering close to that

He was clear it was for job security.  Like we got Lewis by offering 3 when Hawks offered 1.  Suspect about the same

I really hope we're not playing inside mids like Jones and Tyson on the wing again in 2019...

If the Saints have offered 3 years and we've offered 1 year then its a no brainer for Kent.

Struggled to be consistently available but he has pace which we need more of in the team.

His managers comments was around the fact he has job stability with a 3 year deal now he has a "new family" presumably more $$ than at the Dees and has been promised midfield minutes..

Can't see how he has the tank to spend time in the midfield - burst half forward only I would have thought

must say I'm not that happy about him leaving in the sense that he has potential but no way would we offer a three year deal (one plus one perhaps) so best wishes Dean and may you star against everyone but us.

Good luck Kenty. Had a lot of skill, but his body keeps breaking.

Why would you request a trade to the Aints?

oh well, your choice

While money and length of contract might have something to do with it, surely any footballer wants to play football at the top level. Going to St Kilda gives him a much better chance of playing consistently in the seniors than staying with us or going to another strong team.

I see this as a sensible move by him and I hope we can facilitate it for him. I have found him to be a frustrating footballer. Has shown some excellent cameos but too often has also "gone missing" for extended periods. He's also held back by his inability to kick on his right foot.

I get all that. But success will not be at St. Kilda for a fair while yet

2013 = 15games

2014 = 13

2015 =4

2016 = 20

2017 = 6

2018 = 5

So averaging less than 9 games a year for the last four years... that ain't equal second round: and that's before you look at his talent.

3 year contract offered? If you are Dean Kent, you have to take it with open arms. If you are Melbourne, you would (hopefully) not be offering 3 years based on above!!

Has to be a 2nd to 3rd round pick 25-35, he's a quality goal sneak who's had an unlucky run, plenty of football left in Kenty.

Sad to see him go.

At best I’d say late second round pick but I imagine we’ll do it for a 3rd rounder. I like Kent and will be sad to see him go as I would have him in our best squad but he’s not a critical cog in the line up.

I think it will be a 4th. Players like Kent aren't worth much in a trade.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

    The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
