Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Wow. On to the third page now. Can't think of another Melbourne player (even ones still playing for Melbourne) who would get this much comment if he were dropped. Which means as supporters we must have invested a lot of emotion into Jack Watts. I'm sure there's a PhD in this for someone who can work out just why we're still fascinated by "The Jack Watts Story".

A PHD wouldn't cut it.

Normally I’d ignore posts like yours DrD, but not this time.  While most people here would find it sad that JW’s form has warranted his dismissal from the team, you seem to take pleasure from the fact that this justifies some supposed statement you made about him. Feel good now? Jack has played over 150 AFL games - how many have you played? Sure we wanted so much more from Jack, but he couldn’t give it consistently, for whatever reason. So what? That’s life. Jack has had to take shite like this for way too long - from people who’s only claim to fame is that they are able to post a blog on demonland. Jack has accepted all this with complete dignity. I’m sure most of us here only wish him success.

Perhaps if Jack had been drafted at pick 20 none of this bs about his ability and expectations would have transpired. Perhaps it’s the fault of the recruiters who simply misread his capabilities, and us supporters who needed a hero and simply wanted it too much.

Good luck Jack - hope you make it back to the ones soon.

JW knows football is not the be all end all. However  disillusioned as he may have been, he never had a mentor or someone like a teammate to look up to help him  nurture him, whatever the case. Melbourne was a basket case for years. Neeld made it worse. Now we have a team at 8 and 4 andsome of our supporters are not happy. So lets pick on JW.  What a shame.

Seems the club made the right call knowing they would target Fritsch who will provided a similar output for much less money. Money ball at its best! Jack who?

Simple; one is a goer, & the other is gone.

That is your opinion. Correct.

I would have said the same thing regardless of whoever was sitting with the thug. Matthews belted players often behind the play, from behind. And he hit them hard.

And he knows it, i just reminded him on behalf of Stephen Smith, who was a fine player, who played the ball.

He still has headaches today. I am sure Lethals Grandkids are not scarred from my altercation.

I saw mathews hit those melbourne players live, and yes they were weak acts, but if you want to have a go at the person who committed them you don't do it in front of kids. If I had of been mathews in that situation swyl would of been picking himself up of the floor as I would not have nor do I still show the same restraint.

Port have simply lost patience. Not going to gift Jack any more games.

Patience in regards to Jack has never dwindled and the occurrence of his big contributions is lesser than ever before. We all acknowledge his skills and one poster suggested recently that these attributes may no longer be a necessary addition to the modern game. It appears at first glance of this situation that Jack may be rapidly approaching the sunset of a largely unfulfilled footballing career.

As the US President might say 'sad'. Not so much as in the sense of pathetic as he uses it but as in genuinely disheartening.

I said in private convos with my brother when Jack was bought up that he would dine off his six goal game in the pre season. He would then cruise until he ran out of brownie points with the coaching staff who would then drop him. Doesn't seem I was far wrong.

I remember Wayne Carey's sister one saying about her own abusive upbringing that people can become products of their environment or choose to move beyond it. Her travails might make Jack's seem minor in comparison.

Jack had a choice to forget what had been and have a genuine fresh start. I'm not sure he has come even close to making a genuine fist of it.

In any new environment, one must always be given a period of time to establish connections and fully understand the culture of a work place

In a previous post, I cited the fact that Jack was running all over the ground, making space, but was largely ignored - this happened at Melbourne, too

His finishing was never in question, but he needs the ball in his hands

Might be too late for a 'genuine fresh start'

Alas, Jack....

So .......  WYL shouldn't have confronted Matthews in front of his grandkids, yet you think its ok for Matthews to punch WYL in the face in front of his grandkids.
Show them what a thug old grandad used to be on the footy field.

Your logic is flawed.

Malcolm Blight gave Jack a spray. Said he needs energy pills and effort etc. Reckons he could slip out of the game if he can't find the effort. (or similar words)

I don't think it would bother Jack too much if his AFL career ended.

More time to head to Byron Bay throughout the year and sell his board shorts.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
