Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

OK!

I've settled down (a little), had a think about our structure and I think against Ryder, Dixon and Westoff it would be throwing Petty to the wolves so I have opted with Frost. He has experience, speed and has trained with the back line since he has been at the club. I think right now, its the "safest" play.

Jones comes out of the middle to move back to his old hunting ground, as a captain he needs to lead so go back there and do it, his value in the middle has diminished this year IMO.

Mr Petracca - I'm giving you the bye to sort your attitude out and a game after it.

Weideman replaces Pedersen, thanks Cam you've been a great club man. Weid has the rest of the year to get game time into him.

Vince, sorry Bernie, it's time to release the young ones, can't play him and Lewis in the same side.

Hannan has a spell, potentially injured.

Anyway just my thoughts, most likely all wrong and won'rt happen anyway but that's where my head is at!

I do hope Garlett gets a game and if they went silly with 4 changes he'd be the one I'd bring in.

In: Weideman, Frost, Tyson

Out: Vince, Pedersen, Hannan

B - Jetta, O McDonald, N Jones

HB - Lewis, Frost, Hibberd

C - Fritsch, Viney, Salem

HF - Petracca, Hogan, Tyson

F - Weideman, Tom McDonald, Melksham

Foll - Gawn, Brayshaw, Oliver

I/C  Spargo, J Smith, ANB, Harmes

@stevethemanjordan - I know you are not a Tyson fan and I don't have issue with that in and of itself - but our midfield just got pantsed for the second time in two weeks with the games best ruckman. If the bloke who got 35 touches and 7 clearances and looked polished and better than everyone else in the twos doesn't come in - I have a real problem with how and why we select players at match committee...

Not disagreeing, but look at the VFL report: Tyson didn't even make it into the 3 who got "votes". The issue with Tyson isn't getting the ball, it's what he does with it. He's just not a great user of the ball, much less distributor.

Happy to be proved wrong, but for the moment ...?

I'd have Pedersen, Vince plus one of Spargo/Hannan out.

Wouldn't be surprise to see Stretch or JKH in, perhaps Garlett or Tyson, though I realise that none of those are replacements for Pedersen or Vince.

The question for me, SJ, is one I don't think any of us can answer, and that is:  Is Dom doing what the coaching staff are asking of him?  He may be winning plenty of the ball and looks a cut above the rest, but are they disappointed in his two way running?  His spread from the contest?  These are questions we don't have answers to, and I know many talked him up after last weekends game, but for him to miss the 'votes' and not get as much recognition as some expected suggests there is something else at play here.

Then again, he may get a call up after the bye and make a mockery of what I just posted above, but there seems to be other things at play here.

RE Tyson I saw two VFL reports in one Tyson wasn't mentioned in the other his name was first as our best. I suspect in one report his name was missed out. He comes in because he adds a different style to the midfield. We had too many at the contest and not enough on the outside which is where we got smashed every time to ball dribbled out of the scrum.

Through the binoculars Jones went to De Goey in the first quarter and got pantsed. Viney tagged him in the second half. So with Viney and Gus playing as taggers we lost lots of midfield possession. Viney only has a left foot and buckley ensured they stood on his left side as he was constatntly trying to get on his left side when he got possession and got tackled.

Who do we bring in who has form and adds to the team or structures up well against Port.

A tall backman, Frost for me. An outside mid, Tyson and a second ruck with height, Weid. So in Frost, Tyson & Weid. Out Bernie, Pedo, Hannan or Harmes and move Salem up to the midfield

There's no way Frost is a safe play...it would be a backwards step to me.

When I said that, I meant rather than throwing Kielty or Petty to Dixon and co, much safer play imo and I’d love to see Petty debut

I saw that as an oversight - I watched a bit of that game on 7 Plus and Tyson was getting it at will and hitting targets.

If it isn't an oversight then I have an even bigger issue with the FD. It would be petty to leave him out of the bests because he wasn't the best version of himself even when being the best player on the field.

i dont understand people wanting to drop hannan. he kicked 2 goals when the game was on the line. playing the hardest position on the ground. a sma forward in a team with 7 inside 50's in the first quarter.

I wouldn't mind seeing ONE of frost, hunt or garlett in just to add leg speed.  petracca can stay another week but i understand the calls for him to be dropped.

People wanting pedo out for weideman is bemusing. yes, pedo was quiet but at least took a couple of contested marks. weideman would have halved pedo's output in this game.

the issue is guys like jones, ANB and viney getting smashed out of the middle for 2 hours. there was no fire in the belly from anyone today.

And lastly, goodwin needs to learn to equalise numbers in our forward line. you can't have Howe sitting loose in defence affecting all of our forward advances

The boys played tired...  didn't come out to play, on Monday.

Nothing you can do about that, just as Don Pyke couldn't with his crew, up in the Alice.

The players will collectively have a let down, from time to time.  As we continue to mature, these will hopefully get less and less frequent.

Not an oversight.

Votes on Club website: 3 Votes: Jay Kennedy-Harris. 2 Votes: Oskar Baker.  1 Vote: Corey Wagner

But there might be a clue here as to why Tyson isn't in the votes:  Apologies to: Dom Tyson and Tom Bugg compiled some impressive midfield numbers and were unlucky to miss out on votes. The pair found plenty of the ball and shared it with each other regularly, looking dominant at VFL-level.

Perhaps the possessions from 'sharing the ball' regularly were devalued...?

I love what spargs is doing and his second quarter showed some real promise about the player he could become. But currently, at this stage of the year and his development, we need someone who is impacting the contest more.

He had 0 possessions in the first quarter, 9 in the second, and finished the match on 12, that doesn't qualify as a "great first half" to me, and a lot of his possessions were questionable in the second.

Don't get me wrong I love the kid and the way he goes about it, but was disappointed in his impact for the game and felt we played a man down with him for most of the game. When Goody was questioned in his post match when someone said how he provided a spark in the game, he was a bit meh with his response saying how he's a great kid blah blah but didn't seemed to be impressed with his overall game IMO

I think:

In: Garlett, Weideman, Petty? (really enjoyed his Casey game)/Frost?

Out: Spargo, Pederson, Vince?/Harmes?

Totally confused by who comes out but think we need a third tall against port.

I hope not 'rp'...It's not only churlish but just plain wrong.

I've just been watching a replay of the game and Tyson was clearly BOG and I didn't notice him waxing with Bugg.

Just looked up the club site and the article was written by Ben Gibson, obviously the work experience kid...

Either the coaches didn't see Gibson's comments/votes beforehand or they concur.

If they didn't see them they should start doing so.  If they concur it is a bit concerning.

Would people be ok swapping Trac for Tyson?  Put Tyson in the guts, move Jones to the wing.  ATM Trac is playing a bitza role without really dominating.  Is he a mid/ forward?  Is he a flanker?  Is he a hit up marking target?  I think he is important to our success, but ATM is not playing any one role as a standout.

Hannan is a definite ommission IMO.  Zero pressure inside 50 will ensure that.  Bugg or Jeffy to replace.

Agree on Spargo.

Pedders played after a significant concussion.  The most perplexing inclusion all year.

Vince needs a break but the FD might see the buy as offering the solution needed and he stays.

Personally i would be bringing Frost in for Vince to give us some extra height, pace/closing speed and run off HB that Vince doesnt offer.  Frosty is also our 2nd best intercept player behind Lever.  Just tell him to keep his disposals simple and release earlier into his runs.

Tyson needs to come in for Tracc.  Tracc has stalled since bitegate and Tyson has earned a call up, subject to performing his role and getting job done once he returns.  A stint at Casey of 3 to 5 weeks might be the best message and tonic required to ensure Tracc takes his game/consistency to another level when he returns.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side.
