Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

i dont understand people wanting to drop hannan. he kicked 2 goals when the game was on the line. playing the hardest position on the ground. a sma forward in a team with 7 inside 50's in the first quarter.

I wouldn't mind seeing ONE of frost, hunt or garlett in just to add leg speed.  petracca can stay another week but i understand the calls for him to be dropped.

People wanting pedo out for weideman is bemusing. yes, pedo was quiet but at least took a couple of contested marks. weideman would have halved pedo's output in this game.

the issue is guys like jones, ANB and viney getting smashed out of the middle for 2 hours. there was no fire in the belly from anyone today.

And lastly, goodwin needs to learn to equalise numbers in our forward line. you can't have Howe sitting loose in defence affecting all of our forward advances

I thought we looked our most potent in attack when Weids was playing.

I would bring Weids in and Hunt (if fit? Someone mentioned he was on crutches?), play Weids as Max’s backup when required and have Hunt play half back/wing to take some pressure off Hibbo who is clearly feeling it without Lever.

Out: Pedo and Vince

Would also be ok if Trac got dropped and we brought Tyson back. He needs a kick up the bum.

Feel sorry for Pedo. Comes back into the team when our centre-line goes to crud again, in a match that will possibly mark the end of his career. A game where Hogan only tallied the three marks and didn't trouble the scorers either. Hardly their fault.

Less concerned by his numbers then his effort.

Firstly he did no follow up work in the ruck. I have zero expectations that he wins the ruck, especially against Cox who is a good 11 meters taller than him, but he got just 1 clearance. So his follow up was poor. Also only laid 2 tackles.

Pedo is in the team for effort. I don’t care if he kicks 0 goals, or gets 6 touches. I care that he works hard, gut runs, lays tackles and brings ball to ground. He didn’t do that today. Sadly he isn’t a good option as that 3rd tall/ruck and he ain’t the future either.

Weids’ numbers aren’t heaps better but he is going to be around for 10 years and we need to give him the experience he requires to see if he makes it or not.

Having paid close attention to him in the ruck, too often he tried to so hard to win the tap that he couldn't recover in time when the ball hit the ground. He was never going to out reach cox or Grundy, and needed to play as an extra mid at the contest, which is hard to do when you are on the ground

Ins: Frost, Garlett

Outs: Hannan, Smith

——

Need a gorilla keepers for Port, and need to trial Jeffy at the feet of Jesse and Tom. Hannan has done what’s expected of a player that’s in between our 18-25th best player.. but jeffy could be in our top 10. Crazy to keep his talent out of our team.

I'd give up on Pedersen immediately and replace him with Weideman.

As for other changes, I'd be looking at dropping some (not all) of Petracca, Vince, Harmes and Hannan. I think we'll be seeing one or two of Hunt, Tyson and Garlett get a recall.

Otherwise, we need to back the majority of the 22 in to re-assess over the break and respond in prime time against Port. If we fail again in that game, bigger changes will happen.

It's exactly the same back line, minus Lever, we've had for the previous 6 games.  It didn't seem to worry us then.

The Pies were at their absolute best today and had a game plan that took us a part.  That doesn't mean we make 6 changes.  It means we go away and look for ways to ensure it doesn't happen again.

Exactly. We felt at the game from first bounce they were ' on'.  And their outside run showed us up for pace and the rest followed. I was impressed we got back into it after a bad first 1/4. but weaknesses exposed gives Goodwin something to work on for second 1/2. Better now .

The pies are the real thing and wer'e not as good as we think.

Another 'flip-flop'.  One minute we're flag favourites, the next minute we are absolute poo after one loss against quality opposition.  There's never any in between.

I've always thought we're a solid, 5-8 finals side and nothing about that has changed over the course of the season.  We are still learning to deal with immense pressure from sides, but we're also doing what we've always wanted - consistently smash sides below us and win the games we're supposed to win.  I've never thought we were flag favourites and we're far from a terrible side.  We are a good side that needs to continue to work hard at taking the next step and becoming great.  It doesn't happen overnight.

I find this thread a little amusing today.  We get absolutely smashed in the midfield and everyone's changes are forwards and backs.  I think Vince either plays as that stopping midfielder or doesn't play.  His best games for the club have been when he has had a job.  Salem was playing well in the midfield but back to Half back and can't understand why Brayshaw wasn't in more center contests.

We have the grunt in the middle but no class

Stretch isn’t fast when he spends most of his time running around in circles or into trouble. I admire his work ethic but I wish he’d take the game on to utilise his potential pace, but for some reason he never does. Confidence issue?

Also lacks any penetration with his kicking. Stick to Casey.

Frost is not an option to my mind...Too many brain fades with ballin hand and gets caught badly out of position where he can't use his assets.

Simply because he didn't do much else, and got out ran by Dunn at one stage when he should have been able to get the ball and run into an open goal. I'm not sure why he wasn't sent into the middle at some stage to try and find some spark while we were being smashed in there, same as Brayshaw.

Honestly, I don't think we'll make massive changes but hope Goody learns a quick lesson, if we start to get beaten in the middle switch it up earlier. Sometimes Jones, Viney & Oliver just won't work, so throw Brayshaw/Tracca/Harmes/Hogan/Hannan/Lewis in the mix earlier at least to disrupt the opposition rather than letting it play out and be 3 goals down. I'm a big fan of Goodwin, but he got out-coached today, and I've thought that about the Hawks loss as well, he's only in his second season but he needs to change things up earlier.

Pedo out, Weideman in. I have been a huge Pedo fan and have said repeatedly over the last few years that our 22 is better with him in it. But apart from possession numbers, his influence in games is reducing while Weideman's is growing. At least he can tackle and follow up after contesting fro a mark.

Petracca out, Garlett/Balic in. You can't do 4 "special" kicks and  1 "special" goal per game and be considered a contributor. Having said that, Garlett at his worst is worse than Petracca but at least he is in form in the VFL. Is Balic a consideration?

And as for midfield effectiveness I really put this down to a poor game. We have actually been very good around the contest for most of the year.

Collingwood managed to flood back every time into our fifty, preventing us from scoring, but left enough players in the corridor to rebound. Their run through the middle, with our (slower) players unable to catch them was impressive. In Alice Springs our forwards managed to get out the back many times and our players rebounded well out of defence. Today the players looked tired and flat and couldn’t keep up. Perhaps they needed a lighter week on the training track in the build up to such a big game-as suggested by Malthouse on the radio.

To the poster who asked about Oscar, he was off with concussion and blurred vision from early in the last quarter, which left the backline very short. I like Smith as a back flanker maybe instead of Bernie who has surprised me this year. I expected him to play less. Bring in a tall back for Bernie.

Port have Ryder, Westoff and Dixon for us to cointend with and yesterday Cox was too big a task for Pedo. The backup ruckman looks to be shared between Weid, Smith and Pedo. The future is with Weid and he is taller. I wonder who will go to Jack Watts?

We got smashed in the midfield and in the contests it was the same as the Hawthorn game with all our hard nuts drwan into the contest in over the ball and when it flips out we have no-one on the outside and the ball runs free. WE stopped running an played mark and kick stuff again. That is fixable. I also don't think Melksham was 100% as at qurter time and 3 quarter time he was having a lot of work on his lower leg.

I expect that after the break we will have plenty to choose from

Out: Pedo, Bernie and Trac (playing on reputation and his delivery under pressure has been poor not sure how many tackles he makes either)

In Weid, Frost/Petty/Declan (take your pic) and Garlett. Garlett will never be outstanding at casey but he will bring pace into the team

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
