Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

He was very disappointing and slow today. No way to argue against that. But so was half the team.

But it did stand out a few times particularly in the second half, where he appeared to be running in second gear. I can't tell if it's just the type of player he is, or if the game has passed him by. He appeared to be moving in slow motion.

Booked in to see my doctor tomorrow as I was obviously at a different match today. Thought I was at Dees vs Pies but I must have been watching Lewis on replay when he played for another team.

Which comment do you disagree with?

Here are my assertions, numbered for easy reference:

1. Very slow.
2. Goes to ground too easily.
3. Is prone to absolutely horrible turnovers.
4. Is prone to giving away unnecessary frees/50m penalties.
5. Is able to hit up targets nicely.
6. Apparently gives good leadership.

Genuinely interested.

There’s no doubt other teams can expose Lewis and Vince. He wasn’t the worst today but he picks up many cheap possessions, short handballs and 15m chip kicks. I’m sure he’s providing leadership but game has passed him and still 18 month on his contract. I’d pay him out at seasons end

There's nothing 'apparently' about it.  His leadership at the club, from what I've heard, has been excellent since the day he arrived.  He's never been quick so why we're all up in arms about him being slow is baffling.  He hits way way way more targets than he misses (and plenty at our club are prone to horrible turnovers) and his discipline this season has been good.

DS has just decided yesterday that he needs someone to sink the boots into.  Lewis seems to be his man.  He's done this before though where he huffs and puffs and stomps his feet (Tom McDonald) and has been made to look silly, so there's no reason why it won't happen again.

Agree mostly with the op, except you take him out and nobody besides Jetta in the back half has any composure in traffic. I think we better not play both him and Vince again in the same side.

We are this year's Port, can't beat anyone in the top 8. Our lack of fight from the opening bounce was so incredibly disappointing. We're nowhere near ready for a serious crack at finals. Embarrassed to be a demon fan today, and to think I took day of annual leave so i could start home and watch that pitiful performance. Won't be doing that ever again.

With Vince and lewis we trade their composure leadership and kicking for speed below knees composure and player development

One line of argument is that yesterday was a bad day

Another is that we have some fundamental issues we have known about but papered over

Outside run backup to gawn height in defence

I wrote off Cox but more and more there are super tall fwds and the combo of lever omcd wont be enough

Im not giving up on this year after yesterday but im tempted to keep trying to develop young talent and Lewis and Vince stand in that path

Yep, I’m done too.....with this thread!

Lewis was the least of our worries yesterday. This is heading down the same path as the thread titled “Lewis Broken Hand”. Some absolute carp on that and this isn’t far off.

I thought Lewis was great yesterday. When I was watching off the footy he was invariably the designated loose in the absence of Lever and the fact we couldn’t afford to move Hibberd off Sidebottom.

Buckley really took Goodwin to school yesterday... but that is another thread.

In an interesting aside - Lewis has to do more than we would want him to do when Viney went down last year and now history may repeat with Lever. I am very comfortable having someone like him back there. Really think the OP doesn’t like him and is waiting for any and every to blast him. Sad.

Who are the replacements for Lewis and Vince though? Grape said it on the podcast a few weeks ago and he was right. We ideally would have other guys there but we don't have the guys who are ready to be those composed and steady BP/HBF types. Wanna throw Wagner into that role? Sure, its your funeral.

Excellent point. All coaches have to learn on the job and I hope yesterday was a useful learning experience for Goodwin.

I hope he can start synthesising these lessons soon. Richmond, Hawks, Pies (also Pies R23 2017).

10% knocked off % is not useful. Especially after it took us so long to recover from Hawks/Tiges and build the buffer over 6 weeks.

What happened to the killer instinct?

Maybe the camp should have happened (lobs grenade and runs for cover).

Once it was decided to play Tom Mc forward Lewis' job during the preseason was to tutor Lever.  Early this year Lewis said "One of the gaps was a little bit of leadership down back...That's not to say that I'll play there next year but certainly throughout the pre-season, I think I'll train the majority of the time in the backline."

Once the season started, Lever was marshalling the backs under Lewis' wise eye - watching but not interfering (and I'm guessing there was a bit of post game debriefing).

Now that Lever is out the marshalling role has reverted to Lewis and he did a fine job of it yesterday.  Very obvious at the ground not sure if so obvious on tv.

Yes, Lewis' weaknesses will be exposed but every player has some and every opp coach will work to exploit them.  Lewis has more positives than negatives so for me he stays until Lever returns.

@DeeSpenceryou are a fine reporter of training sessions and they are much appreciated.  From what you've seen if Lewis is dropped who takes over the marshalling role?

I'm done with this pretender being unable to stand any half decent forward with an ounce of leg speed or overhead ability.

I'm done with him falling over or giving away free kicks because he knows he's physically incapable of even halving the contest.

I'm done with his futile efforts to change direction.

I'm done with the way he picks up the ball protecting himself and only on his left side so he can't move on to his right.

I'm done with his handballs that go to grass.

I'm done with him taking kick outs despite only being able to kick 45 metres.

I'm done with his stupid fake hair.

I'm just absolutely done with Jordan Lewis.

Vote. Tell me where you stand. If you're sucked in by the stat padding that invariably occurs when he's a mile from his opponent or even playing 7 defenders then good for you. If you think some of his nice short kicks justify his ongoing selection then let me know.

Personally, I can't have the team playing a guy who will get so badly found out by a good team. I don't see what that achieves? I think we've got 2 really nice rebounding defender options in Hibberd and Salem who whilst not perfect are tough, courageous, pacy and can beat good opponents. They are the guys who should be getting 20 cheap kicks a game and around them we should have defenders who have the ability to actually defend.

Take a bex and lie down.

When we are winning, he looks good.  He struggles to help us win.

isolated 1:1 he is burned every time.  He has to play the quarterback role, but when they man up and run off him, he is dreadfully exposed.

Quote of the year.

Our biggest weakness is foot speed entering our D50 from a quick play.

The club either has the balls now to get games into Frost and Hunt, or go down in flames in finals with Lewis and Vince plodding.

If you are not a key defender, and probably even if you are, if you are playing in defence you need to be able to run and rebound.

Lewis provides neither. Vince is not much better. Media types drool over their kicking but both are now prone to regular turnovers by foot. every opponent Lewis lines up on will beat him to a contest or run away from him.

I'd be happy to see both dropped with Petty and Hunt (if fit, was on crutches at the G) in. Petty allows Hibberd to play a more attacking role. Hunt to provide run and carry.

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
