Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

My 3 word player analysis V Collingwood

Pedersen - Worst on ground

O.McDonald - Pathetic on Cox

T.McDonald - Only good player

Very harsh on Gawn.  He smashed Grundy for most of the match, to the point that they stopped letting him take centre bounces and put Cox in there instead.  Grundy racked up some cheap numbers rucking against Pedersen which makes his stats look more respectable, but the only thing he had over Gawn today was his tackle count.

I'll echo the others and say you were very harsh on Smith.

Also Gus sacrificed himself today to tag Phillips out of the game.  It meant he wasn't as prolific with the ball, but Phillips has been on fire and he shut him completely out of the game.  He deserves some credit for that.

Gus tagged who - hunter or hunted ?

Interesting coaching move to put your most recently prolific ball getter in a tagging role.

Needs to be analysed a little more methinks

I’m not sure how many of you were actually at the match but outside of the centre bounce Brayshaw was never within 20 metres of Phillips so I doubt he was tagging him unless he is as blind as a bat.

Wiseblood put that forward as the reason why Brayshaw played a low possession game.

I listened to the match so please correct us if this was wrong.

Absolutely wrong, as I said aside from the centre bounces they were nowhere near each other, Brayshaw was standing around watching Oliver, Viney, Harmes and Jones bust their balls trying to win the game for him. If he really had of had a role he might have found the energy to lay a single tackle some time over 120 minutes.

Smith - deer in headlights. (But, definitely showed enough to persist with him. It must be hard for inexperienced players to transition from VFL to AFL level football. Loved his desire and his effort but he doesn't know what to do with the ball when he has it. Nevertheless, I saw enough to believe he can make it.)

Pedersen - retirement beckons, soon

Lewis - clearly our best. (Why do we mark him so hard when he makes a couple of disposal errors when so much of his disposal was first rate?)

I honestly don't understand why the same old sad sacks read this thread when they know what they are going to get each week.

For what its worth I think joeboy consistently does an excellent job and I thank him for his contribution.

Why does everyone think Grundy got Gawn? I didn't notice one ruck get a serious hold of the other on the day. Stats aren't everything but they support this. 5 more hitouts to Grundy, Gawk kicked a goal. Also, Grundy's great strength is getting touches around the ground, and Gawn beat him on that count too.

I agree, it ended up being a scrap and on that note broke even, fizzer IMO.

How would you rate his defensive pressure and his rebound? Both fundamental for a medium defender in 2018.

Jesse Hogan is simply not competitive in the air when the ball comes in high and he is flat footed.

At his best when on the move which makes in a Centre Half Forward  for mine.

Weidemann in for Pederson to play Full Forward and give Gawny a rest. Hogan to Centre Half Forward . Tommy Mac roaming the forward half.

Agreed.

Weed in.

At the present rate, Maxy will not get through the season. Fatigue or injury shadows him with every game.

Weed in will at least provide him with some relief.

@joeboy

The above edited post is to highlight our midfield presence (or lack of)

Obviously not all of the above players played in the midfield all day but all ran through the central part of the ground either periodically or for a greater part of the day.

I may have missed 1 or 2 players and/or included 1 or 2 who may have predominantly played back or forward but the reality is that not one player had a stand-out day or was highly influential.

I don't necessarily agree with your individual appraisals either but you're not far off the mark (as a collective) so its academic anyway.

We were taken to the cleaners by their midfield - clearance numbers ...

  • 8 - Adams
  • 7 - Treloar
  • 6 - Oliver
  • 5 - Mayne
  • 5 - Sidebottom
  • 4 - Grundy
  • 4 - de Goey
  • 4 - Viney

Spargo - bambi amongst wolves

Hibberd - fumbled and erred

Jetta - loose and slow

Lewis - tried but friendless

O.McDonald - close to horrible

Pedersen - game has passed

Petracca - continued disappointing season

Salem - rarely imbued confidence

Smith - little to commend

Vince - gave us nothing

conclusion of this BS

When we lose everyone played bad and when we win everyone was great.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
