Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Well.. missed the whole thing... could only grabs scores from time to time.

Fell in a hole.

Much work still ahead.

A few of the cocky might want to adjust their glasses.

Judging by the scores..and albeitly that all i have...they towelled us

A wake up reality check.... we're far from 'there' yet.

Hopefully better after a rest.

I reckon the loss of Lever hurt more than we realise, and goes back to what Goodwin was saying earlier in the year.

It took a month or so for Lever to settle, find his groove and play great footy.  Now that our most important defender has gone down for the year you would expect it to take a month or so for us to find the best way of covering for him going forward.  I thought Joel Smith had a real dip and earned another crack in a fortnight, but our structures were back to what we saw in the first 4-5 weeks.

Tightening this up and finding a way around Lever will take a little time, hopefully as little as possible.

I thought that was the least of our concerns. We were flat footed and behind all day, got smashed in the middle and got hunted around the packs. Our delivery forward was shocking, back to the long kicks down the line albeit not as bad as the Richmond game.

Viney and Petracca both look like they need another preseason.

Also thought Goodwin was out coached again today

I can't argue with any of that, Doc.  Their pressure and our unwillingness to work super hard at getting ourselves back in the contest was hard to watch at times today.  I reckon they would have had at least 20 intercept marks during the game, many of them from quick kicks out of a contest.  It wasn't good enough.

Still think Collingwood are no good?

Couldn't watch the game today as my son was playing in a basketball tournament in Ballarat. On the way to winning their grand final they beat Collingwood in the semis. Took it as a good omen

Was planning on watching the game 'as live' tomorrow before work. Had made it very clear to my son that if learnt the result whilst tooling around on his phone not to make any comment. At all.

Whilst stuck in a massive traffic jam outside of Ballan i heard him say 'oh no'. When asked 'oh no' what he gave some lame answer. I correctly assumed we had lost.

Just watched the highlights. Doubt i will watch the replay.

I hope i was wrong about Collingwood being no good.

I forgot the rule where you can only ever learn from a lesson once. We got outplayed in the middle. We played in a finals-like atmosphere. We struggled with spread again at the MCG. I believe we will learn from the loss.

We also said that after the Hawthorn then Richmond games. So I guess we can look forward to learning the same lesson over and over again for many years to come. The future is bright!

Seem to be a mixed reaction at Joel Smith's game, but I personally liked what I saw.

When you think he has only played a couple of games, I think we need to leave him in for at least a month.

He has a lot of the right tools, and I could see him being an important player come the end of theaeason if we are still in the mix.

Though it was almost a repeat of R23, this game was more like round 15 when we were smashed by the Swans after winning four in a row. We were quite listless after that. Hopefully the bye will help us this time to regroup.

Backline fell apart without Lever today.

Backline fell apart because our midfield and half forward line fell apart. I thought the defenders battled relatively well. Joel Smith struggled in the first half, but grew into the game. Great spoil in the last. His spoil and then follow up tackle early on was good too.

I think you may want to direct the attention to our mids centre clearances 10-18!

The around the ground clearances were worse. 16-27! You don't win games of footy with our attacking press system, when you lose the clearances that badly.

Very quiet on the train. We were two short with Peterson and Spargo ( kid playing against men. Strange selection in clutch game)

Oliver ok. Viney and Jones totally pantsed by DeGoey, Trelor and Sidebottom.

When are we going to recruit an outside runner like one of the Collingwood blokes?

Our midfield does ok against the bottom 8. Against the top liners - Leadership normally disappears after that. I think they know their limitations.

In Tyson, Stretch, Hunt, Garlett, JKH comes into it too, maybe also the ginger nut and one of Keilty or Petty.

Jones and Viney cannot be in the centre at the same time awful. Slow, slow, slow.

Out Pedo, Harms, Bernie, Spargo, Harmes ,

Melksham.

Hogans attititude and performance????

Do we keep him or do some serious trading for Lynch?

Tommy Mac a shining light, Max tried hard Fritch tried.

Wow. There's some stuff I agree with and then there's this... the bloke was second for the Coleman coming into this game, playing midfield and forward. He's a star. He had a down day, but he'll bounce back.

You're suggesting Viney and Jones are too slow for the middle, but your replacement is Tyson?

I think we might go Jeffy and Hunt next, as we need some outside run, but I wouldn't say Viney is slow. And given Port's slowish midfield, we might reset with the same midfield and not go Jeffy or Hunt at all.

Rest is needed to reassess and then we go again in Port.

He was great today. We put all our eggs in the OMac basket and it has actually been going ok up until today.

We have 10 more games to win 5+ and make finals.

Goodwin and co have two weeks to come up with another clearance plan as the bullies and pies have slaughtered us and worked out what we were doing.

Also a rocket needs to be fired up the leaders. When games are not going our way or their own personal way they revert back to little give and gets. It’s poor. And ffs cane some one get Viney better boots, he fell over that many times today I thought he was Lewis.

Can say the same about Howe. We give him up for chips then trade 2 first rounders for a similair player with a bung knee.

I think the view is different at the ground than on tv.  What I saw at the ground:

  • We were absolutely smashed in the first quarter - the ball was in our forward 50 for about 5 minutes.
  • They kicked a lot of points and we could not get it out past the centre.  That was all lack of work rate.
  • There were numerous times when some of our players were free for the switch that never came so when the kicks went down the line we were always outnumbered.
  • The down the line kick out of defence was too predictable - nearly always on the members side - just like the Richmond game.
  • They won the 50/50 ball nearly all day.
  • Lewis did a fine job of marshalling the backline so in that respect we didn't miss Lever so much.
  • Some players were downright lazy.
  • More than half our team failed to have any impact at all for the whole game.  Some may have good stats but they were of little value.
  • There was very little movement to give the ball carrier options.
  • Our defence pushed up the ground too high again - just like the games we lost early in the season.  Their forward half was a paddock that they found easy to find space in.

The coaching may not have been up to scratch but that isn't the reason we lost by 7 goals.  That is a big margin and I think the players are the ones primarily responsible for it being so high.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
