Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Have no idea why Tmac isnt a co captain.  Our only leader today. Jv needs more game time.  He will get back to old self but until then we need another to stand up. Smashed in the clearances. Tough games on the road soon.

6 more wins if lucky.

Said it on the Petracca thread, but will repeat here.

Petracca for Wines?

I'd take the odd turnover from Wines, to gain his consistant high 20's possessions every week. Today was a glaring example of why we have not completed our midfield bull collection yet.  Embarrassed....

Collingwood can’t play any better than what they did today, everything went their way, the umpires, the bounce of the ball, we can improve, we won 6 in a row, we’ll come back, but reality is we are still a year away from being real dynamite

Yet again, when the heat is truly on, our players haven't got the guts to tough it out.

"We hurt from round 23"

"The pain of rd 23 drives us"

Fkkn yack yack yack

Colonwood wanted the ball MUCH more than our blokes did. They hit harder, hunted in numbers, and didnt give an inch the ENTIRE game. We were rushed, panicked, and timid.

Pretenders once more. We've beaten nobody so far. Nobody at all.

And anyone who says we don't need Wines is a fwit. The flashy outsiders can do zip, when the inside mids are annihilated for 4 qtrs.

We’ve beaten 8 teams I think

no real reason to think we will be better next year. The players are all in the zone where they should deliver.

The disappointing thing is that we lost this game twice. Once in the first quarter and then we fight our way back in the early second quarter only to let it slip away again.

The only positive is that it gave the players some experience of playing in front of  a monster crowd ..something we do rarely

I should add a couple of other notes.

Collingwood constantly manned up our anchor and usually with a quick player like Wells or Stephenson. This also meant our zone was constantly compressed and far too high, and like Hawthorn, they used their pace to continually exploit this.

But they also had an extra man off the back of the stoppage (as most clubs do), but it was also someone with genuine pace (ie Cripps or Treloar). This helped them murder us around the ground in stoppages and because we failed to apply any real pressure at the contest for long enough, they repeatedly gave to players in space with plenty of time.

We refused to work for the switch too, just as happened against Richmond and Hawthorn. This meant we kicked the ball to contests we rarely won, Collingwood would hold it up, reset and then win the around the ground clearance. It happened over and over again.

We have banged on about building from the contest out and yet the last two weeks we've managed to get mauled at the coalface (Max, you handed that horse-looking muppet the AA jacket today too).

The umpiring was terrible but often it follows that the team getting to the ball first get the better go from the umpires and we never looked like it today. Half way through the second, the scoring shots differential fluctuated between 7-8 more scoring shots and you could tell we'd lose by 7-8 goals and that was a fair result.

We were as disappointing as we've been all year. It would have been a lot uglier if it weren't for Tommy's brilliant game.

As with all games where we are comprehensively beaten, it's always our bottom 6 who are simply terrible.

ANB, Harmes and Pedersen all offered very little and fumbled or let us down at crucial moments.

Unfortunately, Charlie Spargo was shown up today with ball in hand and seemingly just overawed by the occasion and contest, however when the ball wasn't in his hands he was a lot better. His chasing and tackling was solid.

I think it might be time for Petracca to have a spell in the twos. He's so ineffective, goes at marking contests with one hand, trails his opponents to contests and seems to completely lack concentration and a tank.

And then there's Vince. I'm really not sure what he offers this team. I'm convinced he's getting games based on his experience and his occasional attacking kick into the corridor that comes off.

I'm really hoping a break is all this team needs to get going again, because they weren't there today (apologies to Tom McDonald, our backline and the super consistent A grader, Clarry).

Very quiet on the train. We were two short with Peterson and Spargo ( kid playing against men. Strange selection in clutch game)

Oliver ok. Viney and Jones totally pantsed by DeGoey, Trelor and Sidebottom.

When are we going to recruit an outside runner like one of the Collingwood blokes?

Our midfield does ok against the bottom 8. Against the top liners - Leadership normally disappears after that. I think they know their limitations.

In Tyson, Stretch, Hunt, Garlett, JKH comes into it too, maybe also the ginger nut and one of Keilty or Petty.

Jones and Viney cannot be in the centre at the same time awful. Slow, slow, slow.

Out Pedo, Harms, Bernie, Spargo, Harmes ,

Melksham.

Hogans attititude and performance????

Do we keep him or do some serious trading for Lynch?

Tommy Mac a shining light, Max tried hard Fritch tried.

Pretty fair post Big Red. Regarding Petracca, I'm hoping someone taps him on the shoulder and advises that media appearances aren't his thing. He's not a natural and strikes me as someone who should concentrate on playing footy rather than stilted TV appearances.

Hes always hailed as an upcoming superstar and while no spud hes no game winner either. At 50 games its time any super status to bubble up. Im calling him now as an average player as @ 16 touches per game. Love to be proved wrong but fear I wont. A trade to secure a gun midfielder that will rip games apart should be looked at.

That was poor.  We were lucky to kick that score.  In summary:

  • we were smashed in the clearances
  • our front half leaked like a sieve.  We could not hold a ball in our forward half.
  • we made the [censored] wit Isuck Cox look like a champion.
  • we were completely outworked.  Outspread at every contest
  • our skills were deplorable
  • the umpiring was unbelievably bad.  Nearly as bad as us.
  • Joel Smith was off the pace
  • Lewis is slow and goes to ground 1:1.  He is brilliant when we are winning, but he won’t win us games when we are not.
  • we are 8/4 at the bye.  Thank god.
  • The filth played out of their skins.  Can see the, keeping it up, but if they do they are a threat.
  • we have to find a way to get energised when we are off the pace.
  • our whole middle tier was really poor today.

They wanted it more than us!  They played better than us, their 2 way run and effort much better than us.  Very ordinary effort today on the big stage.  We are a long way off!  10% loss in percentage.  Petracca is coasting and needs a size 10 boot up his backside.  Viney not fit yet, our midfield looked slow.

Harsh.  Grundy had more hitouts, while Gawn gave more around the ground (which has been the opposite for both of them all year).  Grundy was also gifted a handful of frees as well.  I hardly see it as him being embarrassed, but he certainly didn't have one of his better days.

Max gave more around the ground? Today?  We must have been watching different games.

Of all the players to criticise today, and you could be justified in criticising plenty, I don't feel Joel Smith is one of them.  Was terrific in the first term when the Pies were all over us and contested really well all day.  He got first crack and filling in for Lever and did so quite admirably.  Has 16 touches and 6 tackles - the only players to have more were Oliver and, believe it or not, Spargo (who someone else potted a little earlier as well).

He'll be in the side for the rest of the year if he keeps putting in performances like those.  Petty might get a run at some stage but I feel more confident with him in the backline than I do with either Frost or Wagner.

Hogan’s been fantastic all year, top 3 with Max and Clarry, has one average game and you want to get rid of him.

Over pumped the tyres again. Thought we could walk into 2nd spot. Last season it was finals. Players need to learn that those positions are usually hard won and not gifted especially by the pies.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
