Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Casey Demons v Collingwood VFL - Round 10

Very  silly of Casey not putting Tyson at the upper end of the best players.

I hope its an oversight and an apology/ correction quickly made.

We all watched it, the commentators made significant mention of him, he had it on a string at 70% + efficiency.

The club must be fair here. Hope I'm not smelling some sort of rat.

Thought our midfield was excellent in the magoos today and keeps the pressure squarely on their counterparts in the seniors tomorrow..

Tyson was probably BOG but I was impressed with keiltys game.

Keilty would hardly have had a disposal in the first half.

Was much better in the second half.

Thoughts on our players today from my position on the far side of the ground;

Tyson: At quarter time he was BOG by the length of the Flemington straight. Was clean, used it well and looked a class above. Collingwood put a bit more work into him after 1/4 time, but his first touch work was still very good.

Frost: Not bad without being great. Very solid and I thought his move forward was important in giving Casey another avenue towards goal despite not hitting the score board himself.

JKH: BOG for mine. His ball use and ability to create run and win his own ball was very impressive. Think he still has a future in the AFL, not sure if it will be us however.

Weideman: Very quiet, although to be fair the delivery was pretty poor. His last quarter was good I thought. A couple of strong marks and competed well.

Balic: Very good first term and seemed to be the main avenue through half forward. Drifted out of the game for the next two quarters, but stood up when it mattered most with 2 last quarter goals.

Hunt: Didn't star, but liked what he did do. I thought his ball use was better and he really cracked in.

Bugg: Very solid game through the midfield and was probably the most consistent in each of the 4 quarters. Funny that he can't miss a shot at VFL level.

Baker: Quiet start, but got better as the game went on. Missed what would have been a beauty in the 2nd term, but kicked the last of the day.

King: Quiet game. Got to a lot of marking contests, but couldn't seem to hang onto any of them.

Petty: Very good game, and is a very promising player. He looks class this kid!

Johnston: I thought about 3 weeks ago that Johnston was DOA at the exit interviews at years end, however his move to defence has been inspired. Don't write this kid off yet. Could be groomed as a future small defender IMO. Was very solid.

J. Wagner: Another very solid game. Used it well, and I'm slowly starting to develop some confidence in his decision making. I feel he's being groomed for Jordan Lewis eventual replacement. Very good at this level.

Keilty: Best game I've seen him play live. Multiple intercept marks and he seemed to cover the ground better then I've seen him do before. Really seems to be starting to blossom.

Filipovic: I thought his ruck work was quite impressive considering he was giving away several kg's. Next thing for him to do apart from add muscle is to start to do a bit more around the ground. He is still very young though.

SPECIAL MENTION

Corey Wagner: Came to Casey after two years and 8 games with North Melbourne and time in the Lions acadamey before that. Looks at home amongst the AFL mids and he runs hard. Certainly wouldn't be against adding him to our midfield stocks at seasons end.

That’s his game though, not huge possessions. Very similar to OMac

Noticed that DOm Tyson did not "bomb"it as much, and his delivery looked a lot better.

I know you were at the game, MaH, but I thought that Frost was very poor

Another one bereft of confidence?

Tyson definitely BOG and should get a recall.  Clearly better than VFL class.

I don't think he should definitely get a re call. If our midfield continues to play like they have been playing there will simply be no room for him.

He certainly gave his chances no harm with that brilliant performance today.

Fair call re his confidence JR. Though I disagree re being very poor. Don't recall any turnovers or errors that cost us in anyway, and I thought he was important when moved forward.

Only a matter of time before there's an injury, even a 1-weeker. We're not going to get through the next 11 rounds without someone from the midfield coming out.

Huge upside.

Is Goy Lok a new face ?  Of course this is the one and only televised Casey game so I wouldn’t know.

2 last quarter goals from Balic papers over the cracks that he's had a stinker today.

Also just the 13 possessions for Hunt. His career really treading water right now

Hunt Really Is at the crossroads

Should he abandon HBF and concentrate on wing / outside mid?  He would need to brush up his disposal skillls for that though.

Hunt looked slow, there were times today where I was expecting him to chase down the ball but just went half paced about everything.

In the first half yes. After 1/2 time I thaught he was okay. The filth tried to really muzzle him.

Lok is in his 2nd year of VFL footy, won the development league medal (brownlow equivalent) and has shown some real potential in some of the games I've seen him play. 189cm 88kg brute half forward with speed and a booming kick! One to watch this year.

Doesnt have the footy smarts.

Can only run in straight lines off the half back flank. Would be totally lost in the midfield.

Tyson had a great clean game as an inside mid. Great back up to have if we get injuries to our inside but he cannot play any other role.

Someone please check Petty's age. He certainly does not look or play like a teen. Really looking forward to his development over the next couple of years.

Balic was either in everything or nowhere to be found which I suspect is par for the course. I suspect he is the type of player that would be better suited to AFL level than VFL level football. Will be more than happy if he gets a call up in the back half of year.

I don't think Baker will make it (seems to have not much other than speed). Hunt is at a pivotal point in his career and needs to round out his game or find some new tricks. I found his game bitterly disappointing.

Similar to others I had Dion written off but his game as a small defender was very promising. If he keeps up that level worth at least a rookie spot.

Very harsh on Oskar apart from that sitter he missed he showed a lot I thought. He's doing better than Hunt.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
