Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

He was very proppy throughout the second half.

I thought something had poppped up after the game.

Im assuming if he played out the 2nd half, he’ll be fine.  If not, then he is easily covered.

He (Trac) has been good but not brilliant.  Maybe this round is his.

Oh yeah I didn't mean a long amount of time, just more minutes than the past few matches. Throwing him in there for the start of the third or fourth with the scores tied is hopefully the stage where he'll step up and throw his weight around, burst through some tackles etc.

Cameo midfield appearances is where I see Trac best option but mainly half forward

Yep, been stuck in second gear so far this season. Still waiting for that breakout game. Colin 2.0 so far

Blasphemy.   Trac has already done more than Col did in his hole career

No IMO, this is because Frosty (and I'm a relative fan) doesn't read the game as well as Jake. Therefore, he doesn't get into the same spots to receive as Lever does.

Still, he's probably the first cab off the rank to replace Jake.

Just hope whoever gets the gig realises/ is told that someone needs to be back between the last opponents and the goal

We were found guilty of bringing the game into disrepute. Not quite so bad as tanking.

No. The architects of tanking get rewarded with a million prime time games.

What seems clear to me is that we will be trying to minimise positional changes. So someone is going to come in from Casey to play Lever's role. Whether that's Frost or Smith or Wagner or Hunt or someone else, I expect someone to get that role and Harmes to return to his normal role.

Nope, all bar Sandilands and Hill are out of form and completely past it as AFL footballers.

They are more competitive without them.

What do people think of Fritsch playing in the Lever role.

He certainly has the marking ability and the speed. May just be a little new to the game to have the positioning skills.

That would open up up a spot for a wingman.... Stretch perhaps?

It's not completely absurd. He actually did a little bit of it on the weekend. Has the aerial ability, and can certainly read the play pretty well. His field kicking is superb too. Sadly though I think you'll find his frame won't be big enough for anything more than the odd cameo. He had to contend with Roughead, Schache and Boyd for goodness sake. It's a good point you make though... if he can help down back as a useful +1, then it gives Goody that much more flexibility with guys like Vince, Lewis, Harmes, Salem... Salem particularly delivering into forward fifty is very interesting to me.

But yeah. Getting moulded into a decent rebounding defender? If Howe can do it, Fritsch can.

As Roos said on SEN, it's not going to happen that we are going to create two problems with one by moving players around to fill the hole left by Lever. Coming up with ideas such as Smith to go down back, Tmac to potentially cover back, Harmes, Fritsch etc is just robbing Peter to pay Paul.

One of Pederson, Frost, Smith or Wagner will come in.

Think you are right. Frost also has the pace to make up ground, if he is slightly away from Cox and the ball is coming in high.

Another good point, Redleg; another one in an array of many.

We would have to listen to the Master, Roos, when it comes to a defensive set-up and logically, he is correct in this.

Listening to Gary Lyon and Roosey on On The Couch they seemed to think Hibberd to play Levers role and depending on opposition foward lines one of frost, Hunt or Smith in.

Makes sense to me.

I like the idea of Fritsch going back.

He has been a regular this season, and we know he has the goods, He has proved himself. He has been a regular part of this winning team.

On the upside, he reads the play well from an intercept viewpoint, has a great spring, and can take clean marks when needed. He is also a beautiful direct kick. And he seems to have a cool head. I would feel more confident with the ball in Fritsch's hands than any of the other options.

On the downside, he has a light frame not suitable to any push or shove by opponents. So he could be out positioned by a strong forward.  Yes, its a bit of robbing Peter to pay Paul, but we need to limit our turnovers down back, and at the same time, we have better options to replace Fritsch up forward or on the wing than options to replace Lever down back.

Both Frost and Hunt could be risky. Not regulars, and prone to a rush of blood and high turnovers. Frosty has the height and spring but is one directional and Hunt although good at ground level does not have the height or spring against taller opponents.

If we choose Wagner or another smallish defender we will be making the same mistake we made in the final Rnd last year against them.  They dominated up forward by taking advantage of their talls vs our smallish backline.

Hopefully Goody has learned from this.

Although he probably hasn't earned the call up form wise @Casey and certainly not in Lever type form, IMHO we have no other option but to get Frosty in for the Big Freeze!

Pies unlikely to have Varcoe or Reid which are two big outs

Add Elliot, Moore, Goldsack, Fasolo, Aish, Broomhead and Josh Smith

Keep someone close to Wells to stop influence and shut down their small forwards and we should win easily

I suspect Dunn will only go to the key forward closest to home.  He can't go with TMac or Hogan if they push up the ground.  He might even go to Smith.

Crisp, Maynard and Howe will most likely share the job on the Hogan and TMac as they roam further afield.  All have good tanks but are undersized, so I suspect there will be a lot of helping each other out in the Collingwood backline this week.  IMO this is where we have the distinct advantage.  The midfield is where this one will be won and lost.  I rate their midfield, Treloar in particular will be too quick for any of our mids if given space to tuck the ball under the arm and run.  Hopefully we bring our trademark pressure and attack on the ball and man and create enough opportunities for our forwards.

Stating the obvious, Lever is a HUGE out for us, I'm hoping our backline functions well enough without him.

I have a lot of people to get in touch with if we win, as payback for the amount I copped after that game that we don't talk about anymore.

FWIW I think the order for replacing Lever this week should be Smith, Hunt then Frost.  I'm tipping a very close game here and can't wait for the Gawn vs Grundy battle.

Spot on, juzz.  The worst thing we can do is overthink this and make too many changes and upset the overall structure of the side.  No point shuffling players when we have blokes at Casey who can come in and play a role for us.

I'm still thinking it will be Joel Smith, but the Pies aren't too tall down there so I could easily see someone like Hunt coming in to allow Hibberd to play the extra man up role that Lever plays so well.  He's clever enough to do it.

Love to see Howe & Dunn chasing Hogan and TMac , good luck!

Would be good if we could isolate Howe by dragging him deep into our forward line (Like that the Pies did to Rivers all those years ago).

He would get murdered one on one v T Mac and Hogan.

I definitely think Hibberd will be the loose man. He predominantly played that role last year no? He commits to each contest better then any other player on the team and impacts pretty much every contest in the air when he gets to it. It won't be the same intercepting style as Lever, it will look a littler more different and perhaps a bit more frantic but it should do alright. Need someone to play this role well so not to expose Oscar or whoever else takes a tall forward.

I'm expecting there to be an emphasis on low direct kicks inside forward 50 and across half forward to limit Jeremy's marking.

I think we'll be thereabouts at the pointy end of the year but I'm just waiting for us to have that TERRIBLE game. Like for example Richmond's game against St Kilda at Etihad where they got done by almost 100

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
