Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Yes, we got may. But any reason why we didnt demand 2 first rounders from freo and then offer the extra first rounder and a future first rounder for shiel?

we couldve easily brought in shiel and hogan. and if freo didnt cough up 2 first rounders then we keep hogan and we're at no loss. mahoney couldve done a lot better.

I think the record is stuck.

The only way ti look at losing Jesse is that we have MacDonald who has evolved into Ross Glendinning 2 we   have the Weid who IIRC has not yet stopped growing and has not yet done a full pre-season. Once he muscles into his skin he will be in the same stratosphere.

All Carlton's greatest sides in the 80's had their best players down back. We had to even up the load. With May and Lever, and no injuries, watch  out!

that is a very Mahoney attitude. let me take over next trade period and i'll bring value in :)

at the end of day, hogan was the most valuable trade piece who was IN CONTRACT and Mahoney still found a way to lose the power

Last year should have got Lever for a first round and future second round pick

Which is actually worse than what we did get: pick 16 (not 14) this year goes to them, but we got 2nd and third round picks (37 last year and 46 this year) back. The difference between 16 out and those two picks back is not that great, and us throwing pick 73 into the deal changed almost nothing.

In reality, we got Lever for pick 10 plus the equivalent of pick 51.

(10 + 16 + 73 out vs 37 + 46 in).

With future picks involved, Mahoney's shrewdness here was in betting that we'd go up and Adelaide would go down. Smart boy.

This is just pie in the sky. We could never keep Hogan. He was either going now for what we got or, following a year of speculation, next year for worse when he'd be OOC (and not forgetting that the year after that (2020) he'd be a free agent).

lever was out of contract when Mahoney coughed up 2 firsts

Posters who are unhappy about this trade period need to relax and revisit this in 5 years time.

The same posters complained about Melksham. A player who had the best year of his career to date this season.

Do these naysayers know that since Roos took over, we're the only club to have a moved in a consistently upward linear fashion year upon year?

Where has this view that 'Mahoney always gets pantsed' come from? There is absolutely zero evidence to show for it if looking at our results year after year since the Roos rebuild.

Wake the fuckark up you ninnies. We just made a prelim without Hogan and have addressed a pressing backline need by nabbing a former number 5 draft pick, who is still seriously untapped as well as a player who footy experts say would be an AA key back in a better side. Both of them for a pick 6.

The Former no 5 pick was shown the door by a club already facing a mass exodus because he had been seriously tapped on the head too many times. He was of little or no trade value.May is solid but no Hogan .I am with Dr D on this one.

Let's wait it out, ey?

I doubt anyone could foresee Brayshaw get to the level of performance he has after serious concussions. Yet here we are. Who's to say KK won't?

The only part of your post that rings true is that May and Hogan are not in anyway alike. Well done for pointing that out. One is a full forward, the other is a full back.

How is giving up one first round pick and having pick 13 slide to pick 20 paying more than receiving picks 6 and 23 ?

It's a flawed way of thinking anyway.  What you pay for something is irrelevant to the market when you go to sell it six years later.

It simply stupefies me how often I agree with your football assessments. Balances out my incredulity about your other views on the state of things.

Get out of the weeds and look at it from a higher POV: we turned a star asset about to enter his prime that didn’t want to be around anymore into a star asset in his prime, a possible best 22 player about to enter his prime, and a top 25 pick.

We didn’t go back to the draft for a kid, we helped out the weakest area of the list, possibly addressed a glaring need with ball use and got a reasonable pick for the next spargo.

I am impressed that we lose Hogan and yet have a better team for Rd 1 next year.

I’m happy with Mahoney.  Maybe he could have ended up with pick 14-18 instead of 23. But he delivered Preuss, who will be hugely important in big games next year with Max able to spend time as a target forward.  Max, Weid, Tmac can each take pack marks in high pressure games against top teams when there isn’t as much forward 50 space, and Jesse doesn’t have the elevation to do that.  And trading to add pick 28 could be another Spargo/Fritsch if JT delivers again.  We also saw in last 5 weeks how important forward 50 pressure is, and that is not improved when Jesse played. Can’t wait for round 1.

Josh when will you announce any new contract extension,  to Sam Weideman ???

I hope we’re looking to lock him down for an extra 2 years on top minimum asap. Have a feeling that the Pies will be sniffing around. Hogan leaving might well give Sam a little more confidence, the sliding doors towards the end of last year are interesting to consider.

If Jesse hadn’t got injured it’s unlikely that Sam would’ve broken into the team. I also wonder whether experiencing finals with us might’ve made Jesse feel more connected to the club and might not have looked for a trade back to Perth.

I feel that Josh has addressed the needs of the club without trying to bring egos on winning/losing the individual trades into account.

I feel the list is more balanced at both ends, losing Jesse hurts but I think one of the reasons it hurts is that following in Watts’ footsteps he was seen as one of the major hopes for us becoming a power. Interesting that the forward I would’ve considered more important to our team (TMac) came from a lesser draft pick and began his time in defence. Perhaps it’s a sign that drafting forwards with high picks is a risky gamble. Of course Jesse has been valuable and I believe will become an excellent player for Freo, but he has flaws that have frustrated us in the past.

I’m comfortable with how we’ve gone, and hopeful for 2019.

The next contract we may have to be concerned about is Mahoney's. The man is doing good, no doubt it's being noticed.

It was mentioned somewhere that Carlton tried to get him during this year for a similar job.  Being a smart fellow, he turned them down but that was when there was much talk that he was a serious contender to replace Jackson.  Hopefully, he and Pert become good mates.

But he is such a good operator, for his career development he will move on at some stage.  Hopefully, not before we deliver a premiership or two.

I am no Doctor but from what I have read his concussions have been neck related rather than 'head' related.

Club was confident that this had been sorted out...

Waiting for the posters wailing "should have got 2 first rounders for Hogan or tell them to get stuffed". "I could have got 2 first rounders for Hogan he was under contract FFS"

And  from an independent reporter (total jerk) "A risky yet genius move."

I have a feeling that the tough guy posters have not been any any meaningful negotiations in their lives.

Mahoney 8/10 - I never give 10

I think "the higher draft pick" only highlights the players name more... and they may even feel the pressure of expectation themselves, from the first time they cross the threshold of our home base.

Weide was an early pick, so was Curnow.

Watts in players minds, either makes or breaks them.

The attitude begins the first time they come to the club.   So if we make to nice, they may get too comfortable. Alternately if we behave too aloof, to them they may struggle without enough support.

Dee Culture inside, and outside our club, creates what we get back. As long as the player

strives for their best constantly.  (see Jones...  survived deespite the weak culture).

I don't think Mahoney sees his job as finished, and I am sure he would want to be at our 'Bow' when we approach a Grand Final. I don't think Josh is going anywhere,

Aand this thread is about Mahoney, not about the next CEO.

Josh's job is contract players, or moving them on.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
