Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Jake Melksham - the AFL's one on one king!

Here is the article:

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/teams/melbourne/melbournes-jake-melksham-has-become-the-afls-oneonone-king-inside-forward-50/news-story/dab7157a6984a8090831b8205849f9d3

For those that cannot get past the paywall, the crux of the article is this:

Jake has won more one on one contests inside 50 (9 out of 14) than any other player in the competition.

Since Round 6 we have also retained possession of the ball a ridiculous 93.3% of the time when Melksham kicks the ball inside 50.  That's 20% better than anyone else.

This bloke is having a stellar year and is a big reason why we've been so good since the Richmond game (where he kicked 4 goals and have Rance an absolute bath).  He is continuing to prove that he is a fantastic pick up for the side and, at only 26 years of age, still has plenty to offer in the years to come.

Absolutely awesome field kick. I think it was mentioned by the commentators against the Saints, but his kicking and decision making inside 50 is sublime. A steal for a 2nd round pick.

His body positioning is exquisite. Watch how he monstered his Carlton opponent (think it was Thomas) to protect the ball space and then and ran in to score an easy goal.

Sadly Lyndon Dunn also had this ability but when zone defence replaced one-on-one he became a dinosaur. Still sad to see him playing for that team.

Was almost obvious without even seeing that article. When the ball goes towards him I’m always confident he’s gunna win. Great body position always and a hard match up.

Having a ripping season.

I'd do the same thing... if I had any semblance of a rig...

Luff mentioned last week that Melksham is at about 50%; Dusty 54%; whereas comp average is 30ish for memory.  Melbourne seem to go to him in a one-on-one, when he isn't even at a clear advantage; which means his 1-on-1 prowess has been long understood internally.

I wanted Melksham dropped after the Richmond loss for the record.

Great post mate.

Melksham's linkage between the midfield and forward is absolutely pivotal to the way we play. And as you say, his delivery and decision making is clearly elite.

Well done, Melky!

Heard Melksham in a pre-game interview a couple weeks ago.
Was asked how he went sparring Lever.
Said the two players to really look out for at the club were Viney and Jetta.
Both hit hard and I didn't catch who but one of them broke 2 of his ribs in the ring last year.
I'll tip it was Viney.

Did anyone see Jake Melksham's absolute dagger of a pass in the third quarter to Brayshaw? I was sitting on the back flank on the upper level and had the perfect view of it and it was one of the best passes I have ever seen. The pass absoIutely sliced open the dogs and resulted in a goal. I actually muttered "holy [censored]" and was gob smacked.

The bloke has an absolute leg on him. Rarely wastes a kick. Can anyone gif the replay?

He followed it up with another absolute cracker into the middle of the ground from a similar spot 3-5 minutes later. Played on one leg but I reckon he was involved in a third of our goals.

Yeah saw that one too. Not quite as penetrating but almost as damaging! He has been worth every cent.

He is hugely important to us know. Those 2 passes highlighted above resulted in 2 goals seconds later.

He allows us to just open up teams out the back so easily.

Plus his one on one work in the fwd line allows the likes of Hoges and Nibbler to roam without a worry in the world.

I love seeing him become such a good player for us after every Dons fan I know laugh at that trade.

He’s also a lot smarter than I initially thought. In the lead up to that kick he summed up the situation perfectly. When the ball was coming out of our defensive 50 and prior to receiving the handball from Harmes I noted on the replay he had several looks inboard, assesing options and also allowing himself space from his nearest opponent.

What a weapon he’s become.

I live in the same town as the Melksham's and it's a well known fact how well he can box on around here.

Also worth noting that we let Nathan Jones' brother go, I hope we don't let Jake's little brother go.

Tv doesnt do that kick justice. From ground level on centre wing it looked like he put it over ANB's head (as we couldn't see Brayshaw). I think he may have 'Flash' covered for field kicking

and if you look real close, the double look inside to check his angles and wing position prior to kick off :) super smart (well, obvious for a professional)

Thanks heaps Petrac.

The degree of difficulty certainly looked a lot tougher from where we were sitting, but taking nothing away from Melk, that is a beautiful piece of play. Brayshaw didn't have to move!

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
