Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Priority draft picks

If STK get one I’ll be furious. Didn’t they just come of 11-12 win seasons back to back? A blight on the game if they get it.

Yeah it will be a disgrace if they get one, if they do get one surly it will be the end of Gill as CEO, the rest of the comp could not possibly accept it.

Jon Ralph said the opposite on Twitter tonight. Said the AFL had clarified tonight that the pre-draft priority pick was dead, and that end of round 1 (pick 19) is all they will get

Looks like we are all being softened up for the priority pick that is not  a priority pick.

Given the MFC has no round 1 pick this is extremely important to us

Doesn't it actually make no difference to us? Whether it's Prior to round 1 or post round 1 we are in the same position with our round 2 pick.

no...it makes them a lot easier to hand out and we are the losers.

No way would they give round 1 picks but top of round 2... just watch this space

In the reverse order of how they finish DV8 on the ladder as per the first round of draft picks. That way we get a first rounder!

Honestly....

If we don't make finals this year then we should be the first club in line to get a priority pick as we've been the longest without a finals appearance.

Many of the so called experts seem to be wanting to base the pick on this criteria.

I mean Carlton should get one because they haven't played finals for 5 years, or so they say.

Boomer Harvey reckons a club should get one if they have been out of finals for 4 years.

We're owed 2 and make that 3 if we miss this year...for those struggling with the maths (me included) I think that works out at 12 years /4

Or maybe it should be an extra pick for each year past the 4.

Not sure of my sums here but in that case would we be owed 7 priority picks + another one if we miss this year.

Looks like the momentum is building and it's just a question of where the picks occur.

GCS could quite possibly get three picks in the first 5 or 6 and Carlton 2.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-08-19/bevo-disappointed-if-priority-picks-impact-draft

A bit rich of Bevo to say priority picks shouldn't be before their first pick!!

"We'll be pretty disappointed if these compensation picks come in before us in the draft, because our demographic as far as youth versus mature age isn't dissimilar," Beveridge said

...Conveniently ignoring that they not longer won a flag!  A bit hypocritical really.

I’ve been of the view that priority picks should be scrapped altogether as a result of the precedent the AFL set four or five years ago when they denied a destitute Melbourne of picks after a series of really poor seasons when it won as few as two games.

That should effectively rule out even Carlton with its two wins this year after trading out quality players last year in a move that ensured that the team would bottom out at this time. That is tantamount to “tanking” anyway and if you take that course, you shouldn’t be rewarded. Further, over the last three years, the Blues have won more games than the MFC did when it was denied priority picks. The AFL should be acting consistently with all of its constituent clubs.

Of course, it won’t be consistent and it will, in all likelihood, give Carlton a priority pick because the AFL needs to prop up Gold Coast and how can it help them at the draft if it doesn’t give the Blues a leg up?

Stay tuned.

The great era of Dominance for the MFC happened before TV ? Coverage.

If we had claimed Flags in the 70’s we would be in a much better bargaining position.

This current surge of form must be sustained, we can overtake the Carlscum’s and Essendrugs, if we keep winning.

Hard Work yes, but nothing this club can’t do

They'res probably something in that as well SWYL.  a good point I had never considered.

not just win... we need to lobby the AFL (or is that nobble the AFL) so that we are seen as the power club to replace Carlton.

From the time of Dick Pratt and the "Saturday Takeover Cub" mentioned more than once by the NCSC (the predecessor to ASIC) Carlton have had the reputation of being a club for the money movers. Time to convince the AFL that those days are over.

BTW I had forgotten that Fitzpatrick's fund Hastings were one of those that took a loss on Docklands. Caro mentioned it today on 3AW.

Carlton and it’s supporters need to make up their minds.

They either have the most talented young list in the league and are confident that Bolton and Silvagni are building towards sustained success and dominance if they stay the course... or... there is not enough talent on their list and they need priority access at the upcoming draft.

We’ve been explicitly told two contradictory stories this season.

We had a worse record than Carlton, which has had a stack of number 1 picks, yet didn't get a PP when we asked for one.

Why should Carlton? They have pick number 1 again and stars in Cripps and Curnow to build the side around.

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P
