Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

If you love footy, you love Robbie Flower..... and you sort of have to love Rod Grinter. It’s a rough game, too rough for me to play. But Grinter is as much a part of what makes the game special as is Jezza or Osborne or Stretch or any of the many other ‘artists’ who have the guts to play.

I loved Grinter when he played. Or rather, I was glad he played for us not against us. But  his type of game, is one of the reasons, I never had the guts to play!

Great to hear from him. Good interview

I’ve got lots of respect for Plough and respect his opinion here. What I have to say is that I’ve been pretty surprised at how much talk there has been this week about Lever playing against his old side and ex teammates getting into him. Players change clubs, it happens. The only thing that this suggests is that it was a terribly bitter split and all the crap he had to go through from people like Tex has added to the bitterness.

Me too. On both points. Hibberd is a brilliant and promising current custodian of no. 14.

A dog act, not to be celebrated.

A lot unfair. This was during the time of the "tackles" of Tony Lockett which left recipients with eye socket depression fractures, and later, those of "tackle" victims of Michael Voss, and others prior to the current "duty of care" arrangement in the AFL. Let us remember that Wallace played the next week (after the Grinter hit minus 2 teeth), and got 3 Brownlow votes (admirable). But after accepting an apology from Grinter, sued Grinter & the MFC requiring settlement from the MFC. All this from a man who I heard myself on radio that he followed Melbourne as a child. No wonder he was kicked out of Hawthorn, Richmond and Footscray. Where was the loyalty...

It was a real shame Grinter never tamed his wayward ways.  134 games.  Go back and watch highlights of him - not only tough at the ball, but very skilled on both feet, a strong mark and good football brain.  Made others stand taller. Lack of discipline cost him 31 games and who knows how many more that consistency of playing would have given him.  Never played more than 20 games in a season.  Who knows where our teams under Northey would have finished with more output from Grinter. Should have been a 200 game player for the Demons

If I were Adelaide, I would 100% be going after him. He looked to suffer a bit from nerves at the start of the year playing for a new club, and he didn't have a good Grand Final last year, so from the outside, I get the feeling he might let the situation get to him a little. So yeah, I'd go after him for sure.

Great opportunity for him to stand up,  and he's been playing very well the last few weeks.

As I recall the Grinter incident, it was Wallet who should have been sued for embedding his teeth into Balls' arm, thereby causing an almost life-threatening infection. He had a clear duty of care not to use his fangs in a manner that could cause harm to an opponent on the playing field. The vision shows that the ball was somewhere in the vicinity of one of the players, hence Grinter's action was justified. The Tribunal should have summarily dismissed the case against Grinter - it was a mere storm in a teacup.

Hibberd is a far better footballer than Grinter.  Far better.

I'm around Grinter's age and saw his entire career.  He was definitely skilled, but also limited.  He was the opposite of a ball magnet, as his 11 disposals per game attest.  He just didn't do enough often enough.

The Mew bump was great and he hurt others on occasions, but his "toughness" is greatly overplayed by Melbourne supporters.  Naturally, it's just my opinion, which admittedly seems to be at odds with most.

Already know what we’re gunna get tomorrow...

crows will come out and just before the bounce there’ll be a bit of ‘push n shove’. Commentators will wet their pants. Game starts. Play on. Yeh you sure showed Jake Lever, d-heads...

I think the best thing to do to get inside his head, would be absolutely nothing. Don’t say a word. No cute little jumper punches. Nothing.

I reckon the Crows best hope is to lull us into playing soft footy rather than try to intimidate us. Too many MFC players now seem to thrive on the heavy stuff... ie Viney, Oliver, Hibberd, Melksham, and even players like Petracca and Hogan don’t seem adverse to it.

Bodes well come finals.

I think we should swap Lever & TMac for the first 5 minutes. Maybe a free goal for us in it

The Adelaide 'Advertiser' and its panels of Crow/Port experts basically ruined Saturday's newspaper this morning with everything but direct statements that Lever is going to be sorry he transferred to the Dees. It was full of inuendo about 'lost mates' and 'aggressive moments' from the Crows. Jake, of course, is above all that and its appearance of direct aggression will just wash off like water on a duck's back. It most probably is going to be another very black day for the Crows and if they lose it in recriminations and aggression towards Lever, it is also going to be quite amusing. Carna Dees....

I was at the western oval in the outer wing Grinter stuck his arm  stretched out  as Wallace was going for the ball. He collected Wallace with his hand  closed fist but connecting first with his thumb which I think was taped because  of a previous injury. Grinter smash the front of his face and broke his jaw. However Wallace played the following week with a broken jaw where his girlfriend or maybe his wife had to chew a packet gum so he can  put a wad of gum in his mouth to hold his jaw together. Rod Grinter copped 6 weeks.

I cannot remember the year Maybe 25 years ago? Don't hold it against me.

totally agree, even Gawn, his best game was when he got a bit of attention. We are the bear, no one smart pokes the bear. Why i wasn't yoo worried about the camp fiasco, we are the contested ball side. Definitely Goodwin's fingerprints

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
